Strays

Strays takes the live action talking animals usually reserved for a more family friendly offering and gives them an R rated makeover. It could've been a one note joke extended to feature length but thankfully it's a really funny comedy that may lack belly laughs but contains plenty of chuckles throughout.

Will Ferrell is so good at playing naive characters and this is once again the case here, saying raunchy jokes in a clueless fashion is his forte. Randall Park and Isla Fisher are both very funny and Jamie Foxx is just perfect, boundless energy combined with an ability to make any joke work confirms him as the best of the bunch.

Josh Greenbaum's direction is good, some of the gags are actually pretty clever, only one involving an incredible amount of dog poop doesn't land. The actual effect of the animals talking is not uncanny for once and it's got a nice amount of heart beneath all the raunch.
