The storyline of this series, which shows the events of World War II and the defeat of Nazi Germany and the victory of the Allies, can be very useful for the new generation to get acquainted with the past history.

The story starts at good time in my opinion, where the country was occupied by Russia from one side and England from the other side, it shows the hard times people were experiencing... the poverty and the story of men and women who fought for their country and lost their lives in this way. Well first of of the chemicals between Khatoon and Shirzad is the positive point in the story that keeps the storyline alive. The act of Ashkan Khatibi (shirzad) was really powerful. The atmosphere the clothes brings you back to those times. I think it worth watching and I myself wanna watch it twice!
Fantastic storyline. It takes you to Iran during WW II and shows the bravery of Persians to defend their motherland. If you like period drama, you have to watch this masterpiece.

Mehran Modiri in the role of Jahangir Khan Roozbeh (Khatoon's uncle) is acting brilliant. He and Payam Dehkordi (in the role of Nazar) are the positive point of the series in the ninth episode, and the attractive character of Roozbeh in the context of the story can increase excitement of the story.
But Its named in Iran is khatoon . It's really good Iranian serial. Good story. Good act . Good stars . Good director and finally perfect serial.
A wonderful combination of love and history.
This series has the necessary quality to be broadcast internationally.

I had previously rated this series 4 but changed my mind over the course of the series.
The show is of good make and scene setup which, with a slow but almost interesting story, is made watchable. There are many shortcomings nonetheless. Most of the characters are artificial, forced, hollow, exaggerated, and the dialogues mostly extravagant and out of place. Very often the lay people speak with an abundance of literary devices - a misguided attempt by many Iranian filmmakers to imitate the parlance of the commoners in the Pahlavi era. British officers speak with horrible accents that are mixes of Iranian, Turkish, and North American; the most repulsive one is Norman Wilson, a high-ranking officer of the British embassy, that speaks a weird accent of Farsi with occasional blurts of English phrases in his decidedly ridiculous accent! There are many historical goofs which I won't get into. If you could ignore all the shortcomings, you might still be able to enjoy the story and the visuals. The music is great. The ending title score is awesome. The same melody is also heard as the theme. The story is painfully slow but becomes more and more interesting towards the later episodes and truly culminates in the finale! Sir Wilson also makes more of an effort in the last episode, but is still far from a credible British accent. Rajabov has a better smattering of Russian too in the final episode. The song played at the end of the final episode is also epic.

It's awful in every possible way, storyline is very fake and exaggerated. Director's done a HORRIBLE JOB, actings are terribly bad especially one of the characters "Reza". I can't believe the ratings.. i just feel bad for my fellow iranian people for having such low standards :/
I gave it 2 stars and not 1 only cause of the ok make ups and also Mehran Modiri who acted a bit better than rest of the crew.
To the director Tina Pakravan: please stop taking advantage of poor taste of iranian people and actually try to improve your work in future, maybe you still need to assist other directors a little more first and actually learn how to direct a proper show..
To anyone who is reading this review and is interested in watching a good Iranian show, you should watch the show called "Shahrzad" or "Madare sefr Darane" not this absolute none sense...

Combining original Iranian music and Iranian history
Congratulations to Tina Pakravan.
It is recommended to see the original Iranian history and music and the art of Master Kayhan Kalhor.

It is made for a main aim that Iranian mercenary-filmmakers are seeking for a long time. It receives enormous budget for depiction of Iranian Pahlavi dynasty and their generals as traitors and cowards. It also has many funny historical discrepancies. For example the movie in cinema theatre is colorful in 1940s!
The acting by Ashkan Khatibi and Negar Javaheria are less than bad, artificial, lame and hard to believe and sympathy.
It is just another series that you can watch everyday on Iranian channel 1, nothing more.

Khatoon is the best Iranian series in recent years. The storyline is not predictable. It make the audience eager to follow the next episodes. Khatoon enjoys rich message and dialogues. Not much cliches in story and dialogues. I found the director very professional. I like the act of Negar Javaheriyan. It worth watching. It's my favorite series.

Poor story and design. The design of cloths and scene does not reflect the historical context of 1941. The story has many flaws.

Khatoon is an eye-catching series. Depicting the landscapes of the north with its dense forests and always beautiful Rasht during the years full of nostalgia, has been able to greatly enhance the visual richness of the work. But this is not the end of the story. By watching the visual effects teaser that was unveiled by the agents of the series after the end of the first half of the season, you will definitely eat first and then you will enjoy. The visual effects of the work were designed by Friedenasser Fassihi in Ifa Studio.

Its bad in everything but in someways its enjoyable and i should add that the show have a very bad crew in acting. And the khatoon show act good in filming and camera setting.
It's one of the best series that I've ever watched. I love "khatoon" she is so brave and independent and it shows a real Persian woman.if u are interested in Persian culture and history or u are not watch it!u will love it.

Well-made! Touches really nice on history. I didn't know much as an Iranian about that time. Bravo to the Director! Awesome acting. People who give low ratings should question themselves. Now with the Ukraine/ Russia invasion, you could relate to this series. A must watch!

Ridiculous scenario, incredibly stupid screenplay, awful acting...
The protagonist is absolutely the worst. She's smug, self-centered, condescending, demeaning, preachy, insufferable jerk.
Even the title chosen for the show is stupid: "Once Upon a Time in Iran"!. Really?

This was one of the best Iranian series I have watched in a long time. The story is full of surprises and unexpected events. The show will take you on a roller coaster of feeling full of mixed emotions. The play dramatically pictures years of sad history full of sorrow!
A must-watch show that's based on actual events...
