This is an interesting independent Russian filmmaker's addition to the "life with a redo button" genre. Add some layered confusion à la Inception, some cutesy love story à la Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, maybe some Groundhog Day, and give it a Russian spin.
With the director starring in one of the main roles, we may be watching the debut of an exceptional auteur in the making. The actors and actresses all seem to be unprofessional, having no other works in their film resume. All three more impressive that there is tangible chemistry between the leading couple and even a pleasant repertoire that can be felt between the older protagonist and his friend.
A notable resonating soundtrack, quite fitting to the dream world, making this a somewhat immersive watching experience. This is most affirmatively a good thing, aside from some of the dream scenes where the camera work was (likely intentionally) dizzying as we switched around and around in long takes.
The ending will likely be a little too science fiction and unbelievable slash confabulating for some viewers; others may like it all the more for the same exact reasons. Either way, worth a watch to choose your side on what could be quite a polarizing conclusion to an overall compelling and winning film.
