I am usually a fan of all Shyamaprasad movies. Ritu, is his 1st movie which is not an adaptation of any other work and the script is also not written by him.
Ritu(Seasons), asks a very pertinent question - Seasons change, do we?
The 3 characters in this film have been very good friends since childhood and dreamed of continuing their life journey together. When Sarat returns from US after 3 years, he is yearning to fulfill those dreams with his friends. But, on arrival he finds that his friends - Varsha and Sunny, have moved on and have changed a lot. He passes through a phase of uncertainty, trying to identify his true calling and adjusting to the changes happening in his personal life.
The performances from most of the new comer artists are average. No one really stands out. Music is good and suits the mood of the film. But the star of the film is most definitely the script, which builds the characters and plays with the emotions and internal conflicts. There are no over the top emotions on display, the film grows through the small tensions among the 3 friends.
Overall, the scriptwriter and director needs appreciation for coming up with a refreshing script and capturing the sentiments of many an expatriate malayalee, who always yearns to come home and follow the dreams he saw, together with his friends and family. But, seasons change.....do we?
