Kimberly Williams-Paisley is opening up about enduring a medical ordeal for two years.
In her People magazine cover story published on Wednesday, the Father of the Bride actress and wife to Brad Paisley shared that in the fall of 2022, her voice disappeared and she couldn’t speak louder than a whisper for two years due to a voice disorder.
“I felt trapped in my own body,” Williams-Paisley said. “There was so much shame involved. I felt invisible.” As a result she turned down acting jobs and withdrew from loved ones.
Williams-Paisley would go on to learn that she had a partial paralysis of her left vocal cord and had to undergo surgery to correct the problem. “I had to fight to be heard. Now, no matter what my physical voice is, my voice underneath is stronger. I feel more confident. I know myself better,” she said.

Mr. Rambo deserves our all the treats and all of our love! It's a particularly impressive year for dog movies - and here is another one that goes right on the list of dog movies that deserve our admiration in 2024. Aside from the Hollywood offerings like Arthur the Dog and Dog Gone, there is a growing selection of indies that are winning over dog lovers worldwide. Black Dog (my review) from China and Dog on Trial (my review) from Switzerland both premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The Friend with a huge great dane in it just premiered at the 2024 Telluride Film Festival. And this one from Egypt titled Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo just premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival this fall. It's an adorable, heartfelt tale of a man who goes off on an adventure to find a safe forever home for his dog after...

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ran an undercover sting on a Georgia-based animal training firm that services the major studios and networks. Then the activist group filed a Feb. 21 complaint with the U.S. Department of Agriculture alleging violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Usda’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service tells THR that it’s reviewing the matter. “Aphis takes all animal welfare-related complaints very seriously,” says a spokesperson.
The company, Atlanta Film Animals (Afa), disputes PETA’s claims related to a variety of its creatures, from monkeys to cockatoos. It also counters that it has evidence it will share with the federal agency that, in at least one instance, the clandestine operative failed to adequately provide medication to a pair of elderly pigs — which the organization denies.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, a whopping 61 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12. Last year, there were only 48 options, compared to 41 in 2021 and 28 in 2020.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. A new rule change will require each voter to make no more than five selections in this category, whereas there was previously no limit. As opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

One was fiercely focused, the other accident-prone. They both made it.
The careers of Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise first collided exactly 40 years ago when the two very young but ambitious actors showed up at an Oklahoma location to assume their roles in The Outsiders, directed by Francis Coppola.
Although thrilled by the opportunity, they didn’t exactly click: Asked to share hotel rooms, Cruise had his agent demand a single because the actor wanted to study his script each night. Lowe found another roommate for camaraderie.
On opening night, Lowe angrily discovered most of his scenes had been cut while Cruise’s had survived. It was an ominous portent because Cruise soon moved on to hits like Risky Business and Top Gun. Lowe struggled with early disappointments like Class and Masquerade.

Five years after a torrential storm walloped Santa Barbara County that resulted in deadly mudslides, evacuations were ordered Jan. 9 for the enclave of Montecito and some neighboring areas as downpours once again sparked threatening conditions.
Trees toppled, highways were closed and flash floods — as seen in a startling video shared by Montecito resident Ellen DeGeneres and in images of a man kayaking in downtown Santa Barbara — hit the region, which is also home to such names as Oprah Winfrey, Rob Lowe and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
“Scenery, weather, lifestyle, there is nowhere like it and real estate prices have gone through the roof,” Lowe, the star of Dog Gone and 9-1-1: Lone Star, tells THR by email. “But,” he adds, “there’s no free lunch! When you live this close to mother nature, sometimes you’re going to feel it.”

Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill’s romantic comedy You People debuted at the top of the Netflix English-language film list for the week of January 23 to January 29.
The film, in which Hill also stars alongside Eddie Murphy, racked up 55.65M hours viewed in its first week on the streamer. That put it leaps and bounds above the No. 2 spot, which went to the Lily Collins-led thriller Inheritance with 11.6M hours viewed.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is still sitting in the No. 3 spot, putting up another 9.7M hours viewed. Also on the list were Puss in Boots, Devotion, Dog Gone, Pale Blue Eye, Sing, Matilda the Musical and Trolls.
While it didn’t make it onto the Top 10 in the U.S., Netflix also says that All Quiet on the Western Front received a bit of an Oscars buzz boost, with viewership increasing 190 over the previous week. The film,...

If you want to see the #1 film in the world (and see it properly), you need to buy a ticket at a movie theater. And that likely will remain the case for “Avatar: The Way of Water” (Disney) for the indefinite future.
But it’s different for the #2 and (it appears) the #3 top-grossing titles in domestic theaters, at least as of Tuesday. “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (Universal/19.99) marks its third week atop all three VOD charts we track. And multiple sources indicate that “M3GAN,” following the studio’s normal strategy for films that debut in theaters to less than 50 million, will add home rental platforms as well. (Universal did not respond to a request for confirmation).
“Puss” came out on only the third weekend of play in theaters, yet in successive weekends stayed strong. Its hold in consecutive weekends was down 19 percent, up 7 percent, down 21 percent this weekend.

Snow Falls opens with a warning sign, a pair of ravens sitting on the sign welcoming the characters to the town of Snow Falls. A bigger warning sign for the viewer however should be the squabbling going on inside their vehicle. Complaints about someone studying, somebody sitting with their feet on the dash, or someone else not wearing a seat belt. The kind of pointless bitching that makes you wonder why these people hang out together.
But the five of them, Kit, Em, Eden, Andy and River are on their way to spend New Year’s Eve at a massive “cabin” owned by River’s family. “This is your second home?” “Third if you count the one we’re building on Martha’s Vinyard”.

Peaceful coexistence between theaters and home platforms, and the latter showing more interest in awards-elevated titles, stand out as themes this week in VOD play. Throw in signs that Nicolas Cage, always a draw for home-oriented feature films, is as strong as ever, and two unheralded titles standing out at Netflix above higher-profile originals, and the result is several interesting developments this week.
In its second week of home video play, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (Universal/19.99), released in theaters just over a month ago, repeats as #1 on all three VOD charts we follow. New year, new Netflix! January 2023’s slate can keep viewers entertained amidst all the gray skies and rainstorms, with new original films like “Dog Gone” starring Rob Lowe to classics like “Forrest Gump” starring Tom Hanks. Those who can’t get enough of the adrenaline of “Top Gun: Maverick” can stream the original film on Netflix now, too.
Other genres well-represented in the batch of new titles on Netflix in January include the whodunnit and rom-com, with several options like “The Pale Blue Eye” and “You People” landing as Netflix originals. For those in a more serious mood, “Brokeback Mountain” is now available. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” promises fun for the whole family with Illumination animation, child-favorite characters and a throwback to songs of the seventies for parents.
Here are some of the best new movies to watch on Netflix in January 2023:

Rob Lowe is getting candid about how he’s been affected by the flooding at his home in Santa Barbara, California, due to the uncharacteristically heavy rain that’s been hitting the area in recent days.
Appearing at the Los Angeles premiere of “Dog Gone”, Lowe opened up about he and his neighbours were finally able to exit after a large tree had fallen on the street, blocking their way out.
“I’m lucky to be here tonight,” Lowe told Extra, as reported by People.

“We were trapped for a day and a half. Cut off, so there was a big tree down on my road and nobody could get in or out,” Lowe continued.
“I just got a winch on my truck, so it was perfect,” he added. “I got to break it in and it worked.

This weekend, Netflix is welcoming a true crime documentary, the second season of a TV series about the Viking Age, and a drama movie based on a book. Last weekend, Netflix kicked off the first week of 2023 with the addition of the action movie 10 Minutes Gone, season 2 of Love Island, and season 11 of The Walking Dead, along with the documentary series Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street, season 2 of Ginny & Georgia, Nicolas Winding Refn’s TV series Copenhagen Cowboy, and the mystery thriller movie The Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale and Harry Melling.
This weekend, Netflix won’t see much licensed content added to its catalog, with the addition of the limited series Scattered Barriers, the Indian movie Thai Massage, and the Nollywood movie The Wait. All eyes, then, will be on this weekend’s original content, which is bringing titles from different genres, so there surely be something for everyone to enjoy.

Dog Gone is a movie directed by Stephen Herek starring Rob Lowe and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. It is based on a book by Pauls Toutonghi.
A tv style saccharine movie with all the sickly sweet elements to delight the more family oriented viewers and create one or more ulcers for reviewers: full of clichés, easy, schematic and totally formulaic.
Storyline
A guy whose girlfriend has just dumped, gets a new friend, Gonker, with which, I guarantee, he manages a longer and more sincere relationship. The problem happens when he loses his dear friend and the guy will do everything he can to reunite with his friend… aided by his father, who has just arrived on his graduation day.
