Pozole was a sacred dish believed to have been made from the flesh of human sacrifices. It was replaced by pork after the Spanish outlawed cannibalism. The girl in the opening scene is in the soup that gets served later in the film. Vernon Wells plays Father Bennet, a reference to his character in the action film Commando. Eileen Dietz was the voice for the demon during the possession scenes. Eileen played the face of the demon in quick shots in The Exorcist. The movie that the home nurse is watching is the horror film Dry Blood, which was also directed by Kelton Jones.
