The idea to set a movie in an elevator was inspired by the hectic elevators at the American Film Market in Santa Monica and taken to the next level because the screenwriter lives in an historic hotel (the former Rice Hotel in Houston) that has been converted to lofts. The building hosts weddings and other events and the mayhem behind the scenes can be observed as tenants go back and forth to the parking garage. Also, the role of Will was written specifically for Tod Huntington, an actor the writer/producer had auditioned for her project about The Big Bopper, "The Day the Music Died".
In the first New Year's Eve segment, a band and its roadies enter the elevator early and leave late - the roadies are the director/co-DP Jonathan Carbonaro, co-DP and RED cameraman M. J. Marcinik, 2nd AD Jax Stafford and Sound Mixer James Willis - the band is Sun Machine, whose song "Parachute" ends the film. The creator/writer/producer does not make an appearance, although she does have an uncredited voiceover role.
