Prolific comedy writer Bill Lawrence gave an update on where his reboot of “Scrubs” is in the development stage while speaking with Variety on the Writers Guild Awards red carpet Saturday in New York.
“Well first thing is, on an interview, asking my wife if she’ll do the show whenever she has time,” Lawrence said while standing next to his wife, “Scrubs” alum Christa Miller.
Lucky for Lawrence, Miller replied: “Of course.”
With that cleared up, the “Scrubs” creator went on to say: “We’re in the process of, the cool thing, putting the writers together. And it’s the best thing in the world to see that some of the most talented writers in the world wrote on that show and they’re all still friends, and my friends. And so [we] have a combination of the old and new. We’re just starting to build it right now.

Spoilers ahead for "Captain America: Brave New World."
Anthony Mackie's first big-screen portrayal as the new Captain America has encountered some turbulence, but what else is new for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Following its release on Friday, "Captain America: Brave New World" has received an Rt score of 50%, with the common reaction being that Sam Wilson's star-spangled debut in theaters is merely "okay." /Film's Jeremy Mathai described it as a "safe, forgettable rehash" and noted that the latest chapter is "neither brave nor new." Yet, it had every opportunity to be both of those things. With top-tier stars portraying the movie's villains, all entangled in a legitimately compelling conspiracy, there was certainly potential for Sam to reach new heights as the hero Marvel desperately wants him to be.
Sam has already achieved that, though. He earned his stripes as the McU's new Captain, and an entire series focused...

“The best thing about Hollywood, other than, obviously, award shows, is that all of us got in the door because someone believed in us,” said Bill Lawrence, accepting the WGA East Herb Sergeant Award in New York tonight, urging the assembled to “go out and find a young person to believe in.”

Apple is preparing the release of an Apple TV Plus app that will work natively on Android mobile devices, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The app is likely to be released via the Google Play Store, where a version of the Apple TV Plus app is already available to install on smart TVs running the Android TV operating system.
Android mobile device users have largely been relegated to watching Apple TV Plus content through the web browser version of the service. A dedicated Apple TV Plus app could help grow subscribers of the TV service, which costs $10 per month and is natively offered on most Apple devices.

The return of Captain America to the big screen marks an exciting new chapter for the MCU. Coming after the massive hit that was Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel is looking to replant its roots with one of its most dependable franchises. Captain America: Brave New World arrives with Anthony Mackie officially taking up the shield for a full movie. While Brave New World covers much of the same ground as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, solid action and heartfelt storytelling help it rise above mediocrity. However, yet again, Marvel struggles with CGI, and questionable editing makes the two-hour flick feel much longer than it should.

Anora won the top prize of best picture at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, while Emilia Pérez, Wicked and The Substance each captured three trophies.
The Brutalist star Adrien Brody won best actor; Demi Moore won best actress for her work in The Substance; Emilia Pérez actress Zoe Saldaña won best supporting actress and A Real Pain‘s Kieran Culkin, who wasn’t in attendance, won best supporting actor.
Emilia Pérez, currently dealing with the fallout from controversial, recently resurfaced tweets by star and best actress Oscar nominee Karla Sofía Gascón, won two other awards at the ceremony, voting for which closed on Jan. 10, well before Gascón’s past posts emerged. The mood within Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, where the awards took place, was relatively somber with each win for the Netflix musical. Still, the film took home awards for best foreign language film and best song in addition to Saldaña’s trophy.

After the Los Angeles fires in late January, many awards events were canceled or pushed back. On Thursday, things seemingly got back under way with the annual AFI Top Ten awards lunch at the Four Seasons, which in effect stood in for the canceled Academy Nominees Lunch, as applause rippled across the room at the announcement of each of the ten film and TV winners and their clips.
Who got the most applause?
Nabbing a rousing standing ovation was L.A. firefighter Timmy Larson, representing the thousands of people who risked their lives to fight the raging fires just a few weeks ago. Next biggest? Harrison Ford, the only AFI Life Achievement Award winner, on hand for Apple TV+’s “Shrinking.” Adam Brody and Kristen Bell’s Netflix series “Nobody Wants This” had a noisy fanbase. And “Sing Sing” is clearly popular.

Ahead of a busy weekend on the awards circuit — the Critics Choice Awards, the PGA Awards, the DGA Awards — a veritable Hollywood who’s-who gathered on Thursday to celebrate the American Film Institute’s 10 finest films and television shows of 2024 in a luncheon event rescheduled from a month due to the devastating series of fires that ravaged the Los Angeles area.
And while there were quiet murmurings here and there about Emilia Pérez and the controversy enveloping its star Karla Sofia Gascón, the film was received with warm applause, if not an overabundance of enthusiasm, when it came time to play a clip. The movie was represented at the lunch by director Jacques Audiard, stars Zoe Saldaña, Edgar Ramirez, and Adriana Paz, and composers/songwriters Clément Ducol and Camille. Nearly 15 years after Ugly Betty went off the air, Michael Urie and Becki Newton are giving the show the podcast treatment… again.
The pair recently reminded Deadline they were early adopters of the rewatch trend, recapping the ABC sitcom with a “pioneering podcast” during its original four-season run from 2006 to 2010, before launching their new Still Ugly podcast later this month.
“We talked about every single episode,” recalled Urie. “So, this was inevitable. And then as we’ve gone to the cast to ask them to come be on it, we’re like, ‘We are, as you might imagine, doing another podcast.’ It just feels like riding a bike being together again.”
Developed by Silvio Horta as a U.S. adaptation of the Colombian telenovela, Ugly Betty followed the awkward titular writer Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she takes a job as the assistant to Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), editor-in-chief of the snobbish Mode fashion magazine.

“Becki and I have never stopped being really, really close. From the minute we finished the show until now, we have remained in very close contact. We see each other all the time. We text literally every day,” Urie told People on Thursday. “This is an idea that has been in the back of our minds for a long time.

Are the 2025 Critics Choice Awards about to be a repeat of the recent Emmys and Golden Globes?
Television awards faves Hacks, Shōgun, and Baby Reindeer are expected to dominate Friday’s ceremony, which was delayed twice in the wake of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Season 3 of Max’s laugh riot Hacks is predicted to walk away with four trophies: comedy series, comedy actress (Jean Smart), comedy supporting actress (Hannah Einbinder), and comedy supporting actor (Paul W. Downs). In fact, the only category Hacks is expected to lose is Best Comedy Actor … because it doesn’t compete there. Instead, our odds-makers believe Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This) had better start preparing a speech.
Likewise, Season 1 of FX’s historical epic Shōgun has four races locked up, per our rankings: drama series, drama actress (Anna Sawai), drama actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), and drama supporting actor (Tadanobu Asano). The remaining statuette is Best Drama Supporting Actress,...

Jason Segel is best known for his role as the adorable boyfriend Marshall Eriksen in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. While he has been a household name because of the show, he finally got his feature film breakthrough with the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall (last name not related to Himym). He also wrote the script for the film.
One of the most iconic scenes in the comedy is his fully frontal n*de scene at the beginning of the film. Segel’s scene reportedly caught the attention of actor Harrison Ford when he was offered the role in Shrinking. Ford mentioned that he even sent Segel a note after watching his n*de scene in the film.

Although many Indiana Jones fans were unhappy with the last installment, Harrison Ford has made his peace with the character.
The Oscar nominee recently shared his reaction to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s unsuccessful 2023 opening after taking one last adventure as the titular archaeologist in the James Mangold-helmed sequel.
“S— happens,” he told WSJ. Magazine of the film’s poor box office performance. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened.”
Ford added, “I’m still happy I made that movie.”

Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford remains unapologetic about bringing Indiana Jones back to theaters in 2023, despite the film’s mixed commercial performance. In a candid interview with The Wall Street Journal, Ford discussed his personal connection to the franchise’s final installment and his ongoing acting career.
“Dial of Destiny” marked Ford’s last portrayal of the iconic archaeologist, a role he championed creating despite the movie’s lukewarm reception. The actor revealed he was instrumental in developing the film’s concept, believing there was still an important story to tell about an aging Dr. Jones.
Ford described his vision for the character’s final journey as a deeply personal exploration. “I wanted to show Indy after experiencing the consequences of his adventurous life,” he explained. The film follows an older Indiana Jones searching for a time-altering device, presenting a more reflective version of the legendary character.

Shrinking star and music supervisor Christa Miller revealed that Shrinking Season 3 will start production next week in Pasadena and Altadena, where it has always shot, and she stressed the importance of keeping that location after the Eaton wildfire that devastated Altadena last month.
“Next week we start shooting Season 3 of Shrinking in Los Angeles, in the heart of Pasadena, and it’s a really special moment for our cast and crew because not only do we shoot in Pasadena, we film in Altadena as well,” she began in a video posted to Instagram. “After the devastating fires that hit Los Angeles, it feels more important than ever to support all the communities that have been affected.”
Both the Eaton fire, which broke out in Altadena, and the Palisades fire, which leveled many homes in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Malibu, were 100% contained Saturday after blazing for nearly a month on opposite ends of Los Angeles.

The Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso premiered in 2020 and aired for three seasons to critical acclaim. The show drew viewers in with exceptional performances, outrageous humor, uplifting tone, and more. There is much buzz on social media about a fourth season of the series. But until then, viewers continue to look for another series to fill the void.
Comedy fans are always searching for another intelligent comedy to keep them entertained. Ted Lasso set the bar fairly high, but the list below will certainly give fans some new series to keep them entertained.

There’s never been a better time to be an Apple TV+ subscriber.
I may be an outie, but “Severance” is still one of my favorite shows of the last few years (not sure what my innie thinks?) and I am So pumped it’s back. It took me a while to get to it (my wife and I just watched the first episode of Season 2 last night), but it did not disappoint. It’s a wonderful feeling to be back at work with Mark, Helly, Irving and Dylan – even the imposing Mr. Milchick gave me a smile. Now, Apple TV+ has been gaining ground for some time, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite streamers for high-end TV shows. With that in mind, here’s a list of my picks for the top 7 TV shows to stream on Apple TV+ right now.

If you're like me and can't wait to see more of Shrinking on Apple TV+, then I'm sure you're desperate for any sort of update about season 3. Even though the second season of the comedy just wrapped it's supersized 12-episode season in December 2024, viewers are eager and ready for more. Well, we don't have an exact release date. Though one of the men behind the series has shared an exciting update.
Co-creator Bill Lawrence took to social media to provide a filming update about Shrinking season 3. According to Lawrence, production on the new season will start "very soon." He didn't indicate when exactly, though co-creator and Louis actor Brett Goldstein has given us a clue. In speaking with Collider, the Ted Lasso actor shared that filming is supposed to pick back up in January.

In an interview with the new PBS SoCal digital series Locationland, location manager Danny Finn describes the kismet moment when he discovered that the house used for Freaky Friday in 2003 was still standing and still owned by the same woman. Even better, she was open to allowing it to be used again for Disney’s August 2025 release, Freakier Friday.
“I called and got an old, robotic answering machine, left a Hail Mary voicemail,” Finn recalled. “Two minutes later I got a call from an unknown number and this voice answered, ‘Hi. It’s Me. Yes, I still live here. Same house, new husband, all good.’ So we ended up shooting there, which was wonderful.”
Then, last week, everything changed.
“We’ve since confirmed that that house — along with every house on that block — was lost in the Palisades Fire,” he told Locationland.

Jessica Williams On Ford’s Absence (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Here’s a fun fact: Harrison Ford was left out of the Shrinking cast’s group chat. Why? According to Jessica Williams, it’s because Ford doesn’t do texting. In a recent interview, Williams, who earned her first Emmy nomination for playing Gaby in Shrinking, opened up about the group chat dynamics, revealing that Ford’s absence wasn’t due to any drama; it’s just that “Harrison’s definitely not on it. You could say it’s a group chat minus one.”
While it might sound like an oversight, Williams humorously added, “I just don’t think he texts. I don’t even know if he has a phone.” For a man who’s become an iconic part of Hollywood’s DNA, it’s almost refreshing to imagine a tech-averse Ford living life beyond the ping of a notification.

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.
The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”
On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.
The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

The 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards nominations list included one significant omission. Netflix’s Emilia Pérez was left off the nonprofit advocacy group’s list of “303 culture-changing nominees across 33 categories, honoring outstanding fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues in film, television, gaming, publishing, stage productions, music, podcasting, journalism, and more.”
The snub further illustrates the disconnect between LGBTQ media and the entertainment industry over the controversial crime musical from French filmmaker Jacques Audiard. Emilia Pérez is widely predicted to receive several Oscar nominations on Thursday. The movie could set multiple Academy Awards records, including the most nominations ever for an international film and the most nominations for any film. The NCIS cast may soon see much more of Agent Jessica Knight’s sister.
A standing rumor is that she will play an important part during the second half of NCIS Season 22.
The show has been on hiatus for several weeks, with CBS taking a primetime break from new episodes of its hit dramas.
But the shows soon return, including a new season of NCIS: Sydney and new episodes of Fire Country.
All previous episodes from the NCIS season are streaming on Paramount+. And it might be a good time for fans to re-watch the NCIS fall finale.
The last tidbit we learned was that Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) has a secret girlfriend. And that girlfriend is going to cause some chaos.
Who plays Knight’s sister on the NCIS cast?
Actress Lilan Bowden plays Robin Knight and is set to appear again later in NCIS Season 22.
Robin is Jessica Knight’s sister.

After being postponed from its original date of Jan. 10 due to the Los Angeles wildfires, the American Film Institute’s 2024 AFI Awards luncheon has been rescheduled for Feb. 6, it was announced late Friday afternoon.
In making the announcement, AFI President and CEO Bob Gazzale said, “With the encouragement of the community, we will gather our honorees at the AFI Awards luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 6. The spirit of this event has always been one of camaraderie – not competition – and a moment to celebrate the power of art to heal, inspire, and unite. This is a city built by dreamers – and bringing today’s dreamers together as one will lead us to brighter days ahead.”
Firefighters continue attempts to gain control of almost 40,000 acres of ongoing wildfires, which have killed at least 27 people and destroyed more than 12,300 structures.

Updated, 5:41 p.m.: This year’s AFI Awards luncheon will now take place on Thursday, February 6, AFI President and CEO Bob Gazzale announced on Friday evening. Like many award shows around town, they’d been delayed by the L.A. wildfires, which continue to approach containment. The luncheon had previously been dated for Friday, January 10.
“With the encouragement of the community, we will gather our honorees at the AFI Awards luncheon on Thursday, February 6,” said Gazzale. “The spirit of this private event has always been one of camaraderie – not competition – and a moment to celebrate the power of art to heal, inspire and unite. This is a city built by dreamers – and bringing today’s dreamers together as one will lead us to brighter days ahead.”
Previously, January 8: The Annual AFI Awards luncheon scheduled for Friday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills has been postponed.

The Best Film Ensemble category at the Screen Actors Guild Awards can occasionally be a tough one to predict. Gold Derby’s pundits erroneously thought that 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood would prevail over Parasite, while 2016’s Hidden Figures was correctly chosen by only one of the editors, experts, or top 24 users — combined. Well, this year’s top race looks to be less of a head-scratcher and more of a coronation, as Gold Derby’s 2025 SAG Awards predictions overwhelmingly favor Wicked to win with 17/10 odds. Talk about popular!
The SAG nominations were announced on Jan. 8, with Wicked leading all other films with five bids: Best Ensemble, Best Actress (Cynthia Erivo), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande), Best Supporting Actor (Jonathan Bailey), and Best Stunt Ensemble. Universal Pictures’ big-budget adaptation of the beloved Broadway stage musical is not expected to win any other trophies with the acting guild, though that’s par for the course,...

With Severance making its long-awaited return and shows like Silo, Shrinking, and Bad Sisters earning positive reviews, Apple TV+ is sneakily making the case that it’s one of the best streaming services ( even in a post-Ted Lasso world). But it can be a hard sell to try out a new streaming service, particularly one that relies so heavily on original programming that newcomers might not be familiar with.

Coach had some great moments in New Girl. Damon Wayans Jr. is currently shining with his role as Derrick in Shrinking and starring opposite his father Damon Wayans Sr. in Poppa’s House, but Coach remains one of his best characters. Coach came and went over the seasons, but when he was around, he had unique friendships with the rest of the New Girl characters. Like everyone on New Girl, Coach was figuring out how to grow up, starting the series as an aimless sports fanatic, and evolving into a driven man with a fulfilling relationship and career.
When Damon Wayans Jr.'s character reappeared in New Girl season 3 after Coach was replaced by Winston, he had to reestablish his old friendships with the guys and build new ones with Jess and Cece. In New Girl season 4, Coach meets May, and after working hard to get her, he ends the season...

Here’s one story you can’t make up about Dick Turpin: his show is dead. Despite a successful and acclaimed first season on Apple TV+, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin won’t be returning for a sophomore outing. And according to reports, there’s one man to pin it on: the star of the series, Noel Fielding.
As it stands, Noel Fielding – who plays the titular character and truly broke out as part of The Mighty Boosh troupe – is at the center for why The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin won’t press on. As reports claim, Fielding didn’t return after the holiday break in production and headed for France, with a rep for the actor coyly stating, “One of the main cast members who has not been well is not recovered enough to complete the filming.” As vague as that is, everything has been pointing directly to Fielding,...
