The role of Addy was originally written for an english-speaking actress. Once Amélie Blanc agreed to play the role, the director felt the character would be much more genuine if she delivered all the lines in her native language. It was a conscious decision on the part of the director not to provide any explanation regarding why Addy only speaks French.
