Gene Siskel - Host: You know, a movie is really pathetic when it ends up basically being a seltzer fight at the end. The movie "Overboard" is much too top-heavy with bad jokes and screaming, and not strong enough in its love story. I don't understand why they didn't emphasize that. The story is simply the standard "taming of the shrew" tale, and neither the shrew nor the tamer is that interesting.
Roger Ebert - Host: I liked it a LOT more than that.
Gene Siskel - Host: I'm, I can't believe it.
Roger Ebert - Host: I did, I really enjoyed it. I didn't like it as much as "Moonstruck", which we're coming off of...
Gene Siskel - Host: Wow.
Roger Ebert - Host: ...So that there's kind of a little dimu- diminution of energy. But, uh, I enjoyed it. I thought this was the kind of movie that would've been made in the 1930s, a screwball comedy, the kind of trading of places, the exchange of identities, I thought it was Goldie Hawn's best movie in a long time...
Gene Siskel - Host: Oh my God.
Roger Ebert - Host: I enjoyed the way she related to those kids, and she changed, and I liked the physical humor, too.
Gene Siskel - Host: You liked the seltzer bottle? You liked the spraying of the stuff? You think that's FUNNY?
Roger Ebert - Host: Yeah, I kinda thought it was okay, sure.
Gene Siskel - Host: Oh, "kind of okay", well, I wouldn't recommend...
Roger Ebert - Host: Okay, then I thought it was MORE than okay. I thought it was not a great comedy, but a good comedy, and I did enjoy it, and I would recommend it to somebody who's looking for a little escapist entertainment.
Gene Siskel - Host: Someone you hope never to see again, I have a feeling.
Roger Ebert - Host: No, not at all. No, I'd be happy to see that person again. Anytime...
Gene Siskel - Host: I don't think they'd be happy to see YOU.
Roger Ebert - Host: We can make an appointment right now, they can come back and tell me if they liked it or not. It's not as bad as you said.
Gene Siskel - Host: It is.
Roger Ebert - Host: No, it's not.
