La Review of Books on Netflix's Sense8 as metaphor for Netflix is. (I have no idea
why a book site is reviewing this but the piece is absolutely terrific)
La Times talks to Robin Swicord, only now with a second feature (Wakefield) long after the success of The Jane Austen Book Club. Her debut was profitable (always Hollywood's end goal) but Hollywood wouldn't hire her to direct? We've heard this story all too often!
Screen Daily in terrible terrible news they're still not going to let the once genius but totally played out Terminator franchise die and Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron plan to be involved in the next one. Doesn't anyone in Hollywood want to do something original even more? It's not like Cameron couldn't get funding for literally Anything he wanted to do. (sigh)

What to see and who to watch it with over the Easter long weekend! What to see and who to watch it with over the Easter long weekend!Zachary Dent4/13/2017 4:04:00 Pm
The Easter long weekend is that time of year where it's finally starting to warm up but not enough to throw on a swim suit and hang out by the pool. You're most likely going to spend a lot of time eating, drinking, and drinking some more with family. It's good to find an activity that gets you out of the house and that everyone can enjoy. That's why we've put together this guide!
Plan a trip to your neighborhood Cineplex and let everyone sit back, relax, and enjoy a much needed cinematic experience. Regardless of who you're with (kids, friends, a date, even if you're stuck at home) we've got you covered. What to Watch with...

First off, I want to apologize for this column's absence this past couple of weeks. When It Follows and Ex Machina arrived on Blu-ray back on July 14 I honestly completely spaced and forgot all about this column, which is a shame considering those are two of my top three movies of 2015 so far. That said, if you weren't aware they were released you can click on either title and purchase them now. Otherwise, here are this week's new DVD and Blu-ray releases along with a boatload of new release dates including Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Duke of Burgundy (another one of this year's best films), Mad Max: Fury Road (probably my favorite film of 2015 so far) and Furious 7.

Even with the eclectic cast for what seems to be Warner Bros. bravest chapter in the DC Cinematic Universe, there was still a space in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad for the role of Rick Flagg, the leader of the popular team of anti-heroes that are set for the debut do-or-die mission next year.
Heading through some rather choppy waters for the past month or so with Tom Hardy originally in and then out of the role, before being briefly looked over by Jake Gyllenhaal, The Wrap reports that the studio have finally settled on someone to raise the Flagg – The Killing and Robocop star, Joel Kinnaman.
Though there’s no solid confirmation from the studio, the trade has revealed that things are pretty much set for Kinnaman to join the team which already has some impressive talent on board. Consisting of the high-calibre cast members like Focus stars Will Smith...

Update: Scarlett Johansson has officially signed on to Ghost in the Shell, according to Variety. Original Post: Earlier this week came news of WB/DC’s Suicide Squad, and the sparkly list of celebs wanted to play various morally murky supervillains. And right afterward came an update from Deadline — yes, Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are super interested in pursuing some supervillainy (save for Ryan Gosling, who’s being all finicky). But in one throwaway sentence of that Deadline piece was something even more shocking (more shocking than Will Smith playing an outright villain, if you can believe it). It seems Robbie was free to pursue Suicide Squad because her previous target, the live-action Ghost in the Shell adaptation, had ditched her to pitch woo at Scarlett Johansson. Savor those words: Scarlett Johansson. Ghost in the Shell. Perfect, no? Because Johansson would almost certainly (it’s not been said outright, but...

There have been some absolutely fantastic castings in comic book movies over the years; Christopher Reeve as Superman, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Chris Evans as Captain America to name but a few.
As a result the comic book movie genre is now one of the most popular in Hollywood and the movies are attracting the biggest and best actors in the world very regularly.
The upcoming movies in the genre are no different. With several castings already known – and some having already filmed their scenes – there’s a lot of excitement and hype around certain characters thanks to the actors who are playing them.
Not all the castings are perfect in the eyes of the fans. Some potentially dodgy castings include Will Smith as Deadshot, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor,...

Blockbuster season is almost upon us, but what will next summer's big hitters be? Here's a roundup
Once upon a time, summer blockbuster season 2015 was set to be packed with the biggest collision of big franchises we'd ever seen together. However, one by one, lots of these films moved away to other dates. As such, you won't be seeing Star Wars: Episode VII, Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, Independence Day 2, Batman Vs Superman or Finding Dory in a cinema next summer.
But even with those films gone, there's still no shortage of huge movies battling for your cash in a year's time. And as is traditional for us at the start of summer blockbuster season, we've taken a look at what's coming up in 12 months' time.
We kick off at the start of April (although note that March has Kenneth Branagh’s live action Cinderella movie,...

NBC’s primetime Tuesday coverage of the Olympics was filled with chilly thrilling spills, as crazy weather bedeviled crazier sports. The women competing in the Alpine Giant Slalom faced rough terrain, while the men competing in Snowboard Cross faced rough terrain and the fact that Snowboard Cross is basically a demolition derby without any safety protocols. Summer Olympians Lolo Jones and Lauryn Williams crossed over into a whole new weather pattern, competing in the Women’s Bobsled (or “Bobsleigh,” as they call it in Westeros.)

Just about every year, brilliant movies are utterly ignored by the Oscars. The Searchers, Groundhog Day, Breathless, King Kong, Casino Royale, Touch of Evil, Caddyshack, Mean Streets, The Big Lebowski — the Academy has a long history of overlooking comedies, action movies, horror flicks, hard-boiled genre pics, artsy foreign films, and documentaries that aren’t about World War II. This year, we’ll be taking a closer look at films that were too small, too weird, or perhaps simply too awesome for the Academy Awards. These are the Non-Nominees.

Unlike in theater or television, writers generally get the short end of the stick in the movie business. When a film doesn't work, the script is blamed, when it does work, the director gets credit. Writers get fired, rehired, fired again, rewritten and screwed out of credit. But that's not to say that once they get the momentum behind them, a screenwriter can't become just as talked about as actors, actresses and directors around Hollywood watering holes and meeting rooms.
As such, following our picks for the potential stars and starlets on the rise, we've chosen five screenwriters who look like they're going to be in demand over the next few years. A great trailer is a challenge to pull off. It needs to strike a delicate balance between not showing enough and giving everything away. A trailer establishes the tone and look of a film without getting too deep into the story to ruin the actual movie.
The pressure is now on for "The Dark Knight Rises" and its theatrical trailer, which will premiere in front of "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" on December 16. With so many looking forward to the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, the first full-length trailer needs to make the appropriate impact. Emma Stone is in talks to star in a new comedy from Fox 2000. Deadline reports the Amazing Spider-Man actress is in talks to lead He’s Fuckin’ Perfect. If you had any doubt that Hollywood was reliant on big movie franchises, let them be eradicated right about now...
As has long been the case, sequels are a reliable way of making plenty of cash from recognisable names. They've been a part of the Hollywood filmmaking process for decades, and as this list of 95 sequels currently in the works proves, will continue to be so for as long as we stump up the cash to go and see them.
We've been doing this list annually for a couple of years now, and this year's collection is, perhaps unsurprising, the longest round-up of upcoming sequels that we've done. Still, given that there are nearly a hundred sequels listed below, we're a little sad to see that Hollywood's people in suits couldn't find room for a belated return to Mac And Me...

About to jump back into the Scream arena for the fourth film Neve Campbell may have lined up her next film, Roland Joffe’s timewarp Singularity, according to THR.
With shooting recently finished on There Be Dragons, a journey of self discovery set during and after the Spanish Civil War with Dougray Scott, Wes Bentley and Charlie Cox, Joffe will direct Campbell and Josh Hartnett, who, after an attempt to rescue his archaeologist wife goes wrong, is left in a coma.
Cue dream/flashbacks to 1778 where Hartnett is a captain with the East India Company invading palaces and taking names. His next mission revolves around a piece of jewelery which is probably involved in the dig Harnett’s wife was looking for when she got trapped in the future. Splashes of The Fountain are evident but it’s a decent premise . IMDb has a great line in the plot description which should be the tagline.

The UK may be struggling to keep up with the rest of the world in the arena of football, but we’re at least producing some top quality actors. Here’s Matthew’s pick of upcoming talent…
In a review I read for the BBC film, Dive, it stated, "It is lucky that, at a time when we are failing miserably to produce young footballers, we are producing such wonderful young actors." I'm not exactly sure why one would make up for the other, but I agree with the assertion. We have some great young actors and our young footballers are rubbish. For me, that's the best way round, though.
Here's a list of ten young British actors whom I expect to be making big moves in the world of entertainment in the near future, if they aren't already. The list is based on some completely subjective criteria such as talent,...

Actors on Actors.
Paul: You need a fighting name. Like a movie star.
Michael: [long pause] Charlton Heston.
Paul: Look, love. Nobody's gives a toss about Charlton Heston. The man's a c***.
You're more the Charles Bronson type.
Michael: [sounding out the name] Charles Bronson.
Paul: Yes, Death Wish. Fits you down to a "t"... Perfect. Charlie F***ing Bronson.
Matt King (Paul) & Tom Hardy (Michael) in Bronson.
Screenplay by Nicholas Winding Refn & Brock Norman Brock.
Tom Hardy is such a freak in Bronson, chewing on each word like it's a bloody steak. And we love him for it.

Last night, HeyUGuys attended the World Premiere of Disney’s new movie, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (you can see all our coverage here). The big change in this premiere to all others was the location in which it was staged. Rather than bringing the world’s press to London’s famous and historic Leicester Square, the premiere was hosted by the brand spanking new shopping centre, Westfield which is located in Shepherd’s Bush – a place that unless you live in the UK, you’ve probably never heard of!
I’ve tried to find information on what and when the first ever movie premiere was held in Leicester Square but have so far failed to find the information. I did however come across information on the first ever Royal Premiere on BigBusTours.com who tell us:
