Heather Graham has worked on many R-rated films, such as “Boogie Nights,” “Austin Powers,” and “The Hangover.”

While Drew Barrymore and Tatum O’Neal were also up for the part, Heather Graham got the role of Brandy/”Rollergirl” in the 1997 American period drama film Boogie Nights.
Director Paul Thomas Anderson had not considered Heather Graham for the part as it required nudity. However, her agent called him and asked if she could audition. The rest is history; she has received critical praise for her performance.

When you’re a streaming service, there’s only one way to celebrate the New Year. And that’s by IP mining to bring back a franchise that had no business in coming back!
With its list of new releases for January 2022, Hulu is raiding CBS’s closet and premiering How I Met Your Father, a continuation of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Complaints about unnecessary rebooting aside, perhaps its worth giving the Hillary Duff starring series a chance. If nothing else, telling a story about 2022 from a future perspective might play well.
Aside from Himyf, there aren’t any other Hulu original series to speak of. Instead, Hulu is opting to once again beef up its film library. January 1 sees the arrival of Master and Commander, Seven, and a whole bunch of Star Treks. Hulu will also be the streaming home of some recently released film Indies,...

The Conners executive producer/showrunner Bruce Helford, who had been friends with Norm Macdonald for two decades, shared memories about the comedian and former SNL Weekend Update anchor, who died Tuesday at the age of 61 after a long, private battle with cancer.
Helford first worked with Macdonald on Roseanne in 1992. Helford was an executive producer on the hit ABC comedy series, on which Macdonald was a writer for about a year before he left to join Saturday Night Live. During Macdonald’s 1993-98 tenure on the NBC sketch show, he guest starred on Helford’s ABC comedy series The Drew Carey Show and, following his exit from SNL, teamed with Helford to co-create and executive produce The Norm Show (aka Norm), a multi-camera comedy series headlined by the comedian and also starring Roseanne’s Laurie Metcalf. It ran on ABC for three seasons.

Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.
Macdonald’s death was announced to Deadline by his management firm Brillstein Entertainment. The comedian’s longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with him when he died, said Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans.
“He was most proud of his comedy,” Hoekstra said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Tubi TV, the ad-supported, on-demand video service, will launch in the UK in 2020 and is set to roll out a specific kids’ library service.
This comes after the service recenty rolled out in Australia as part of its first leg of planned global expansion.
Ad-supported streaming, once a marginal sector, has gained significant momentum of late. This year alone, Viacom acquired Pluto TV for $340 million, Sony set joint venture with Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment to reboot Crackle, and NBCUniversal unveiled plans for its own Avod service due out next April.
The announcements were made as the company gave a keynote address at Mipcom.
Tubi Kids will launch on October 21, a new area of Tubi that will feature a library of children’s content – over 1,200 age-appropriate movies and television shows or over 5,000 hours of content at launch – free in a dedicated section built for families.

This weekend Marvel's latest hit Thor: Ragnarok is looking to top $250 million after 17 days in release while Warner Bros. and DC Comics unveil their latest entry into the DC Extended Universe, Justice League looking to make a splash globally, though that's not all this weekend has to offer. Lionsgate will debut the highly anticipated adaptation Wonder while Sony is debuting their faith-based animated title The Star. All-in-all we should be looking at a strong weekend in which the top twelve should combine for over $200 million for the first time since early July. Looking at a #1 finish, Warner Bros. and DC Comics' Justice League will debut in 4,051 theaters with industry expectations right around $105-115 million. Given Wonder Woman debuted with $103.2 million earlier this year, Suicide Squad opened with $133.6 million last year and Batman v Superman opened with $166 million, those expectations might seem low given this is essentially DC's equivalent to Marvel's The Avengers.

Debuting 35 years after the original, Blade Runner 2049 hopes to get October off to a good start on the heels of record numbers this past September. And while the sci-fi drama is looking for big numbers, Fox is delivering some counter-programming in the survival story The Mountain Between Us, Lionsgate is releasing the animated feature My Little Pony and Focus expands the release of Victoria and Abdul nationwide. Blade Runner 2049 and its reported, $150 million price tag, will debut in 4,058 North American theaters (third widest all-time) this weekend while Sony and partner Alcon Entertainment will deliver the film worldwide. Industry expectations are for a $100 million debut globally, with approximately 50% of that coming from the domestic opening as industry forecasts range from $45-55 million. From a comparison standpoint, focusing on films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and Prometheus make good sense given the 30 years between films in the Mad Max...

Back in 2007, Doug Walker posted a rant under the name Nostalgia Critic for the first time. Now, a decade later, Walker’s work has endured, and he has taken some time to celebrate his long career on the internet. The Nostalgia Critic is ten years old, and Channel Awesome, which serves as the home for those videos, has celebrated with numerous festivities.
To kick off the Critic’s ten-year bash, Channel Awesome employee Walter Banasiak put together a list of some of Walker’s best work. If you’ve never experienced the Critic’s exasperated rants, witty sketches, and tough-but-fair criticisms of classic TV shows and movies, that rundown is a good place to start.
Once you’re up to speed on Walker’s signature character, it’s time to dive into his latest review: A 28-minute evisceration of the 2016 film Norm of the North. Walker describes the animated flick,...

With its combination of horror and racial commentary, “Get Out” (Universal) is the best bet to lead the Top 10 this weekend. With a chance to be not only a hit but also a game-changer, it looks like both a breakout for first-time director Jordan Peele and yet another winner for producer Jason Blum.
The timing on Oscar weekend, particularly in the aftermath of #oscarssowhite, is fortuitous, and it moves into release with a whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after 85 reviews. Horror maven Jason Blum is also an Oscar-nominated producer (“Whiplash”) as well as the force behind M. Might Shyamalan’s “Split,” the first film of 2017 to gross over $100 million domestic.
“Get Out,” as befits its origins from comic actor/writer Jordan Peele (who stays behind the camera), is a mix of humor and horror in its tale of an interracial couple meeting her wealthy liberal white parents for the first time.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Presidents' Day weekend was an interesting one at the box office, and as with most holiday weekends, it was particularly difficult to figure out how things might fare, other than The Lego Batman Movie, which remained at #1 with almost $45 million over the four-day weekend. Fifty Shades Darker followed with $21.3 million, about a 50% drop. Last week, I thought that the Ice Cub comedy Fist Fight would beat The Great Wall, although it seemed like it could be a close race. Nope. Matt Damon’s action epic came in third place with $21.6 million, which is a couple million more than my original prediction, but The Fist Fight fell short of my prediction by almost $10 million, grossing $14.5 million in its first four days.

Phantom Boy is playing in a limited number of UK cinemas this weekend. It's just the kind of surprise that's hard to find in modern movies.
I’ve written before about my love of Saturday and Sunday morning kids' clubs at multiplexes, where you can take your anklebiters to see a film that’s a couple of months post-its release. Such screenings are a godsend to parents of fidgety children, or those of us trying to introduce our youngsters to the cinema. There’s a kinship in there. Nobody goes in expecting children to be perfectly quiet, and there’s usually a spirit of tolerance and some degree of shared film love. Plus, let’s be honest, it’s not a bad value couple of hours either, given that the price tends to be lowered too.

Last time, I covered the best movies of 2016— and now it’s time for the flip side. Brace yourself.
#6: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – In my top list I praised Captain America: Civil War for being a kind of triumphant pinnacle of fan service in comic book movies. Batman v Superman might well be the dark mirror of that idea: fan service run completely amok. Characters are crammed in this movie every which way along with vague concepts, half-formed ideas, and every frame of iconic superhero artwork Zack Snyder has ever seen. Batman v Superman is depressing both in tone and failed potential. The Superman that Snyder puts on the screen is the worst interpretation of the character I’ve ever seen, impulsive and violent without a trace of warmth. Only the moderately badass Wonder Woman sequences save this movie from higher placement on this list, and they...

This year’s Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24. Will the Academy uphold conventional wisdom or think outside of the box? With Oscar This, we highlight unlikely candidates—the dark horses we’d love to see compete.
Definitions of genre tend to grow nebulous as exceptions to rules pile up, but none are more malleable than “kids’ movie,” the only line in the sand drawn by age. The lone criterion outlining this wide umbrella appears to be a rating of PG or tamer, and the accompanying implication that children can see it without wigging out. Definitions of genre tend to grow nebulous as exceptions to rules pile up, but none are more malleable than “kids’ movie,” the only line in the sand drawn by age. Letterboxd, the global social network for sharing your taste in film, has released the results of its 2016 Year In Review, based on the Letterboxd community’s combined ratings as of January 1. They have awarded Barry Jenkins’ Golden Globe-winning “Moonlight” as the film of the year.

“Our hearty congratulations to Barry Jenkins and ‘Moonlight’ on taking the top spot for 2016 in our Year in Review,” says Letterboxd co-founder Matthew Buchanan. “After the ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ juggernaut of 2015, which we unashamedly loved, we began 2016 with no idea what film might win people’s hearts, and we’re taking immense pleasure in seeing a low-budget movie with a diverse cast of mostly unknown actors and no franchise history top the list.”
Additionally, the community also rated Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land” second and Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea” third.

Kid's movies are usually the bottom-of-the-barrel when it comes to quality control. Don't get me wrong, kid's movies (like those from Pixar, Disney, Bluth, or Amblin) can be some of the best films ever, just that the saturation of shit f*cks up the average - big time - with stuff like Norm Of The North and Foodfight! clogging up the works. Only horror movies might have a more... Read More...

Saturday Am Update: With an estimated $12.2 million on Friday, Sully is off to a great start, looking at a three-day opening that could top $34 million. The film also took home an "A" CinemaScore from opening day audiences and with an opening this big we're looking at the third best live-action opener for Tom Hanks and possibly the fifth largest September opening ever. Pulling in second with an estimated $5.28 million is Screen Gems' thriller When the Bough Breaks, which is looking at a three-day opening around $14.5 million if not a little higher. Lionsgate's animated feature The Wild Life could only manage an estimated $700,000 from 2,493 theaters, headed toward an opening around $2.6 million. And the last of the weekend's new wide releases is Relativity's The Disappointments Room, which managed a mere $475,000 from 1,554 theaters, anticipating an overall opening around $1.1 million. Last month I started hearing some buzz that The Angry Birds Movie was the next Lego Movie, a license that everyone thought would make a garbage movie that instead made for a critical darling and a smash hit (if animated movies aren’t your thing, Iron Man was the same scenario way back when). I didn’t think it was possible because the trailer was so insufferable it became my least favorite part of seeing any kids’ movie the last few months, but I went in to the movie with my eyes open. The Angry Birds Movie is so bad that I want to believe all the good things I heard were part of some sort of insidious astroturfing campaign to buoy a terrible movie. It almost certainly isn’t true, but it’s vastly preferable to believing that actual people enjoyed this lazy tie-in movie that missed its moment by almost half a decade.

There are some movies that you just know will be downright terrible, no matter how much belief you put into them: there’s no point giving flicks The Ridiculous Six or Fifty Shades (Of Grey or Black, it doesn’t matter) a chance because even the people who made them haven’t put in the effort.
But sometimes we criticise movies too harshly without really stopping to consider whether we have enough evidence to know that they’re going to suck. Check out the YouTube comments section for the trailers for a bunch of upcoming movies and you’ll discover it’s essentially hell on Earth – angry people being angry about movies they haven’t seen. Movies that, generally speaking, don’t even look that bad – we’re all just bandwagoning.
Folk are already hating on the following 10 films, for example, but do they actually look as bad as everyone is making out?...

I had no interest in seeing either of the first two Kung Fu Panda movies. I thought they were a place for a brand of Jack Black shtick that I had grown tired of by the time 2008 got here (for the record: peak Jack Black was 2003’s School of Rock). I had a strong idea of what these movies were, and I didn’t want anything to do with it. As far as Kung Fu Panda 3 is concerned, I was wrong. This is a charming movie, a funny movie, sometimes even a touching movie. I regretted nothing about my time spent watching Kung Fu Panda 3, and it’s the first movie of 2016 to make me feel that way.

What did you see this weekend? Kung Fu Panda 3 had a strong debut on the typically slow final session of January. Without a vocal fanbase for the series, the sequel still performed well thanks to family audiences hungry for something for the whole family - like me and you they've exhausted their Star Wars repeats and have no idea what the hell Norm of the North is.
Jane Got a Gun, a well-documented troubled production, has arrived with about the quietest thud you could imagine. Weinstein Co. has quietly snuck it into release after endless delays at its former distributor Relativity continually shuffled its debut. Over the weekend, there were plenty of "It opened??" responses with nary an actual reaction to the film - a sure sign of the bare bones publicity the film was was granted.

Tim here. Kung Fu Panda 3 opens this weekend, and thus begins one of the most crowded years for animated features in living memory (technically, Norm of the North already kicked things off two weeks ago, but we're all better off consigning that one to the memory hole).
As a public service, I'd like to offer this highly abbreviated guide to some of the animation that will be coming out in the U.S. over the next 11 months. As with every year, there will of course be a healthy number of foreign imports that we can't predict, and hopefully a little indie or two that nobody has heard about yet; best to think of this, maybe, as a handy field guide to clearing your way through the glut of big-ticket studio films about to reign down upon us all.

Kung Fu Panda 3 enters a marketplace where the largest January opening for an animated feature is currently 2014's The Nut Job with $19.4 million. You can count on Po the Panda squashing that number with ease. Additional new releases looking to find a place on the chart this weekend include the 1950s-set disaster thriller The Finest Hours, the R-rated spoof feature Fifty Shades of Black and Jane Got a Gun. Question is, while Po and the Furious Five are taking the top spot will these other new releases be able to top last weekend's top two films? Last weekend's box office took a hit thanks to the East Coast snowstorm and films such as The Revenant and Star Wars may be looking to make up some ground. Starting with number one, and working in the favor of Kung Fu Panda 3 is the fact the last really strong animated release was...

Fortunes are reviving for The Revenant. After a stint in second, it bypassed the competition to hold the top spot of the weekend with an estimated $16 million. While it is a rough victory (this weekend is the slowest weekend of 2016 so far), Oscar buzz and word of mouth are giving the film some much-needed revenue here and abroad. In second this week, Star Wars: The Force Awakens needs no help as it continues to slaughter box office records; with an estimated $14.3 million, it still has a chance, though slimming, of pushing Titanic out of the highest grossing film worldwide, though Avatar still appears out of reach (yet it has handily defeated both films in domestic earnings). Meanwhile, in third place, Ride Along 2 took in an estimated $13 million, and looks on track to at least break even on its $40 million costs, though it took a massive hit in revenue since its first week.

Splash Entertainment’s animated feature adds China to its 70-strong list of international territories.
Norm Of The North is heading to China for a theatrical release in April 2016.

I wouldn’t put a lot of blame on snow storms for a poor box office this weekend; two-thirds of the Us were still able to make their way to the movies and decided either not to go, or to see some talked about winners instead. The Revenant claimed the top spot with an estimated $16 million. Ride Along 2, last weekend’s number one movie, fell a hard 63% with an estimated $14.2 million, that brings its domestic total to $59.1 million after ten days. Two years ago the original Ride Along grossed $75.5 million over the same time period.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens climbed back up to second place after falling to third last weekend. It brought in just over $14 million on its way to that absurd $900 million mark. In terms of all-time worldwide earnings, at $1.939 billion this Star Wars remains in third place behind Titanic’s $2.186 billion.

With a blizzard blanketing the East Coast, the weekend's box office was down 29.8% compared to last year. How much of that percentage should be attributed to the snowstorm and how much is due to the fact American Sniper was tearing up the box office last year is difficult to decipher. In all, the snow's effect was certainly noticeable when looking at the weekend's top two recent holdovers as The Revenant scored the top spot despite coming up a bit short of expectations while Ride Along 2 suffered a massive second weekend drop. Meanwhile the weekend's three new wide releases, led by Dirty Grandpa, all performed as expected and Star Wars: The Force Awakens held strong with a second place finish, inching even closer to $900 million domestically. Living up to its lead character's struggle, The Revenant fought the bitter cold, scoring the #1 spot in its fifth weekend in overall release and...

A new PG-13 horror (The Boy), an R-rated comedy (Dirty Grandpa) and a sci-fi thriller (The 5th Wave) make up the new releases hitting theaters this weekend and they all stand to make around $10-12 million. Meanwhile The Revenant is looking to score a #1 finish in its third weekend in wide release, but it's going to need another strong hold to top last weekend's champ, Ride Along 2. The Revenant has finished second the past two weekends, but is finally looking to cross the finish line in first. The 12-time Oscar nominee has grossed nearly $50 million since Oscar nominations were announced last Thursday, following not only an outstanding first weekend, but delivering a mere 20.2% drop last weekend. This weekend the film expands its reach into an additional 152 theaters, which includes 186 IMAX runs and 268 Premium Large Format (Plf) runs. That said, a 35% drop almost seems a worst case scenario as it...
