Despite not knowing the language and following the narrative through subtitles I was left impressed with this movie. Such movies proves that good creative cinema speaks a universal language and can reach across various types of audiences. The movie has overall excellence with super work in all departments. The screenplay, acting, cinematography, sound, editing have all been used superbly by director Dinjith Ayyathan to create an arresting narrative which keeps the audience hooked. Yes the pace is slow, it is a case of slow burn where things are slow and methodical. Maybe that is the reason why the there is a gradual build up of suspense and the understated intensity comes out so powerfully.
With the background of a pristine forest inhabited by monkeys the story deals with the personal problems of a middle class family comprising of father, son and daughter in law. Suspense and tensions build up as a pistol is missing, a child too is missing , a few past family secrets are exposed, the cops investigate as new facts emerge. All the while the simians of the forest remain mute spectators to this drama. The emotion and the poignancy of the situations is brought out well by the director. In addition to the director, credit is due to Bahul Ramesh for a top class script and some excellent cinematography of the forest in all its serene beauty. Acting wise all have done a fine job.
