On paper, Gori: Cuddly Carnage sounds like the height of 2000s cringe, mixing action-platforming reminiscent of PS2-era Ratchet & Clank and Metal Arms with a grim and gritty fairy-tale aesthetic that takes a page from American McGee’s Alice. Somehow, though, Angry Demon Studio has largely managed to get the formula just right, as Cuddly Carnage is just creepy enough to be unnerving, just edgy and trashy enough to sate a certain type of 13-year-old (and 13-year-olds at heart), and somehow still cute enough to be endearing.
Cuddly Carnage takes place in an disconcertingly cute post-apocalyptic future where humanity has been slaughtered by synthetic pets with advanced intelligence, slathering the world in bucket loads of blood and neon paint. All of them have been seemingly possessed by kill-crazy demons, their flesh contorting and mutating in distressing and increasingly lethal ways. Now, the planet’s only hope is the scientist...

The failure of Silicon Valley Bank has sent shock waves throughout U.S. financial institutions. And nowhere was that felt more than at other regional banks. At New York’s Signature Bank — which is one of the two main banks that works with Broadway productions — the board spent days grappling with the repercussions.
Yes, there were outflows on Friday, March 10, as some clients sought to move cash to “safer” banks, but former Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, a Signature Bank board member, says he believed they would be able to open Monday, March 13, without issue. Nonetheless, he spent the weekend lobbying federal officials to guarantee all deposits. It’s an area Frank knows well, having co-authored the landmark 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, a bill that reformed Wall Street by dramatically overhauling regulation of the financial services industry in an effort to stabilize the sector. New Delhi, Feb 8 (Ians) A 2016 Facebook malware campaign, known to use a combination of Windows trojan, browser injections, clever scripting and a bug in the social network's platform, has resurfaced in India, targeting millions of users, a new report warned on Monday.
According to an investigation by cyber security firm Kaspersky, India ranks first with 603 infections in January on the list of infected countries by this particular malware.
Brazil (255 infections) and Indonesia (221) followed at second and third position.
The social media malware campaign, run by a hacker group known as SilentFade gang in 2016, was a very sophisticated and rare modus operandi to target Facebook users.
Facebook had revealed that the group managed to defraud infected users of more than $4 million, which they used to post malicious ads across the social network.

Well, it took four full weeks, but the first queen has finally been eliminated from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13. (Our condolences, by the way.)
Friday’s episode brought the “winning” and “losing” teams together for the first time all season (and with a shady little twist to boot). While Elliott With 2 Ts hid just off screen, the winners asked the losers why they chose to vote Elliott out, with Kahmora Hall replying, “I just really didn’t get what her drag style was” — words she would find herself eating seconds later when Elliott emerged for yet another Drag Race face crack.

Noel Gallagher expresses his admiration for the Bee Gees in a clip from the upcoming HBO documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
After showing footage of the brothers performing their 1967 hit “To Love Somebody,” Gallagher recalls the first time he heard the trio. “It actually blew my mind,” he says. “Those early records sound like the Beatles’ early records. It’s a classic Sixties guitar-pop sound, but then it had another thing going on.

Despite David O. Selznick’s desire to keep his cinematic adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s novel Rebecca as true to the source novel as possible and not alienate its built-in fan base, at least one change was unavoidable en route to passing Hollywood’s “Hays Code.” Because it concerns a late-arriving revelation that would spoil things, I won’t say what it was. Just know that this seemingly small alteration on paper beneficially reverberates throughout the entirety of what Selznick and director Alfred Hitchcock put onscreen by allowing their characters room to be sympathetically complex where loyalties are concerned in ways that prove impossible otherwise. So while the ghost of the Manderley estate’s former mistress haunts the proceedings in both scenarios via guilty consciences, only one renders its inhabitants as monsters.
I don’t, however, come to this conclusion in order to share that Du Maurier’s intent...

Oneohtrix Point Never, a.k.a. Daniel Lopatin, has released a fantastical new video for “Long Road Home.” The single appears on his upcoming album Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, out October 30th via Warp.
Co-directed by Charlie Fox and Emily Schubert, the clip features a courtship between two demonic creatures who become one in the end — an homage to Georges Schwizgebel‘s 1982 short Le Ravissement de Frank N. Stein. “I don’t know why I don’t wanna transform,” Lopatin sings, backed by Caroline Polachek. “Taking the long road home.

I love when puppets are naughty. Ironically, I’m also a huge fan of the Muppets, who are somewhat more wholesome, but the concept has always thrilled me. As one of the few who enjoyed The Happytime Murders, I’m always down for a puppet engaging in some weird shenanigans. Now, we have Frank & Zed, a truly unique fantasy horror movie with puppets. A seven years in the making passion project, it’s utterly odd and incredibly gory, making for something you’ve almost certainly never seen before. Folks, if it sounds like something you’d be into, it’s one to truly be on the lookout for! The film is a horror flick, all done with puppetry. The protagonists are a pair of reanimated corpses, the Frankenstein-like Frank, as well as the zombie Zed. They’re both dependent on each other for survival, with a symbiotic friendship ensuing...

In celebration of the Grateful Dead’s Blues for Allah turning 45 this week, Devendra Banhart released a dreamy cover of “Franklin’s Tower.”

You’d think it would be easy to make a movie about the dangers of child stardom and the pressures put on children who want or are pushed to become actors at a young age. All you’d have to do it present a chronicle of the many young actors whose careers and sometimes lives melted down prematurely in the wake of early success.
But while Alex Winter shows us some of those cautionary tales in his new HBO documentary “Showbiz Kids,” they don’t occupy center stage. His focus, instead, is on a group of smart and articulate former child stars, some of whom still have careers in Hollywood – and while you wouldn’t think of Evan Rachel Wood, Jada Pinkett Smith, Henry Thomas, Wil Wheaton or Milla Jovovich as casualties by any means, the stories that they tell make “Showbiz Kids” even more powerful than it would be...

For some reason, Marvel have always found the Punisher to be one of their trickiest characters to adapt in live-action, with Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson all getting big screen outings as the vigilante that didn’t gain much traction with either audiences of critics. However, it turned out that the small screen was the ideal place for Frank Castle.
Having initially been cast in Daredevil, Jon Bernthal’s take on the troubled military veteran was given his own solo series that ran for two seasons before being canceled along with the rest of Netflix’s Marvel lineup. The general consensus is that The Walking Dead star was the best Punisher we’d seen yet by a country mile, and the actor himself has made it abundantly clear that he’d love to reprise the role in the future.

Though Alan Ball’s latest film “Uncle Frank” is not autobiographical, it is very personal, and it led him back to directing and back to film for the first time in over a decade. And in order to write this story, he had to get in touch with his roots.
“I’m a playwright, and I’m from the South, so I have an inner Tennessee Williams, and over the years it took off and became ultimately what it is now, ‘Uncle Frank,'” Ball said at TheWrap Studio in Sundance.
“Uncle Frank” is set in the South in the ’70s and follows a gay professor named Frank (Paul Bettany) returning home for his father’s funeral as he grapples with the decision to come out as gay to his family. The film blends a coming-of-age story for Frank’s niece (Sophia Lillis) with some road trip comedy and drama between Frank and his nurturing,...

This moving, valuable documentary marking the 75th anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation draws on the testimony of many Holocaust survivors
The 75th anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation has been marked by this heartfelt and valuable documentary, presented on camera by Helen Mirren, centring on the Anne Frank story but also bringing in testimony from many current Holocaust survivors, and their families, as well as talking to archivists and historians.
It is a film that is targeted at younger people with what is perhaps an educational mission, and with this in mind there is a connecting-thread motif. It periodically imagines a young woman travelling by rail all over Europe to various historical sites, ending in Amsterdam, posting pictures and thoughts on Instagram, hashtagging key phrases.

The director of Blade Runner 2049 admits he sometimes wakes up in the night after dreaming about a new Blade Runner story.
Ambitious sci-fi outing Blade Runner 2049 may have disappointed its studio at the box office, but Denis Villeneuve's updated take on Ridley Scott's android-heavy universe wowed critics, and has a lot of fans on the ground. Update (12/27): Damon Dash and Raquel Horn have responded to the $50 million lawsuit filed by photographer Monique Bunn, who alleges she was sexually assaulted by Dash in the home he and Horn share.
“This is what setting up a black man looks like live… First they come into your house then they try to rob you. When they get caught, they try to make a good guy look like a bad guy, then try to extort you,” Dash said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “#chrisbrownthelawyer is clearly the ring leader of this conspiracy.

Years ago, in a writing room far away, the screenwriters for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia wrote the script for the episode "Gun Fever Too: Still Hot." This episode featured an opening scene of Frank Reynolds appearing on a local television station, advocating for gun ownership by providing a story about him fighting off two robbers by shooting in their general direction. Classic Frank! Little did the writers know that this opening scene would go down in meme history.

Like Lenny Abrahamson‘s previous two movies, “Room” and “Frank,” “The Little Stranger” is a study in restraint. A bare bones description of the film – a doctor discovers strange occurrences at an English estate in the 1940s – makes it sound like high-brow horror, but the filmmaker has far more on his mind than simple scares. Adapted from Sarah Waters‘ novel, “The Little Stranger” instead explores tension created not only by the supernatural, but also by the changing balance of power in postwar Britain.

One of the great things about Lenny Abrahamson as a director is that none of his films are ever the same. Even Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski knows what’s up and described Abrahamson as “a filmmaker who has proven to redefine every genre he takes on.”
His first film, “Adam & Paul,” was a buddy comedy about drug addicts, then his 2014 breakout film “Frank” was about an enigmatic musician who constantly wears a paper-mâché mask over his head, and he followed that with the Oscar-winning kidnapping drama “Room.

“Room” director Lenny Abrahamson surprised the industry when he landed one of the five Oscar nominations for best director in 2016. Prior to his Brie Larson-starring drama, Abrahamson was best known as the director behind small, offbeat character studies like “Adam and Paul,” “Garage,” and “Frank,” but “Room” arguably chained the course of the Irish filmmaker’s career. In a surprise move, Abrahamson is tackling the period horror genre for his “Room” follow-up “The Little Stranger.”
Based on the 2009 gothic novel by Sarah Waters, “The Little Stranger” is set in 1947 and stars indie favorite Domhnall Gleeson as Dr. Faraday, who is called to a manor named Hundreds Hall to investigate the haunting of the Ayers family, played by Charlotte Rampling, Ruth Wilson, and Will Poulter. Little does Faraday know that his new subjects are at the center of a ghost story that will become entwined with is own.

A lot has changed since Domhnall Gleeson and Lenny Abrahamson made the quirky and great "Frank." The former has been launched into both blockbuster and Oscar season glory this fall with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Brooklyn" (not to mention his key role in the breakout sci-fi "Ex Machina"), while the latter is also angling for awards with his moving, and very well received, "Room." But the destinies of the pair are set to align again. Baz Bamigboye reports that Gleeson will star in Abrahamson's next film, "The Little Stranger." An adaptation of the acclaimed best-seller by Sarah Waters, with a screenplay by Lucinda Coxon ("The Danish Girl"), the film is a ghost story set in a crumbling mansion during Britain's postwar years. Here's the book synopsis: One postwar summer in his home of rural Warwickshire, Dr. Faraday, the son of a maid who has built a life of...

One of the more interesting films touring the festival circuit this year was director Lenny Abrahamson‘s Frank, which enters limited release this weekend. Leading that band is Michael Fassbender‘s Frank, who wears an overlarge papier-mâché head both […]...

What is success? How do you define it? If you're an artist, perhaps success is completing a project without compromise, in a way that is true to your ideal. Perhaps though it is completing a project which a massive number of people enjoy. Maybe the balance lies somewhere in the middle. Lenny Abrahamson's newest movie, "Frank," is all about an indie band which for the most part wants nothing anything close to commercial success. In fact, there are moments in the movie where it seems as though if anyone actually likes their music, they will be disappointed. They are a group so wrapped up in themselves and what they want to do that they have even chosen a name for the group that is unpronounceable. That anti-populist charge in the film is led by Maggie Gyllenhaal's Clara, where as the push for greater commercialization is led by Domhnall Gleeson's Jon.

Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson are no strangers to big event movies. However, their latest film, "Frank," does not fall into that category. Directed by Lenny Abrahamson, and also starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, the movie is an off-beat comedy loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, but it is its own tale. Here, Gleeson plays a would-be keyboardist, Jon, who finds himself with a gig in a band when the previous keyboardist has a breakdown. A relatively normal guy, Jon soon meets the enigmatic, odd, leader of the band, Frank (Fassbender), who, it must be noted, wears a huge fake head all the time. As perhaps should not be surprising in a band where the leader wears a huge fake head, Jon finds that Frank and company are not terribly invested in making popular, catchy, or even very accessible music. Still, being in a band, Jon is loathe to quit and he soon...

You've already heard the smash hit song (okay, not quite), "I Love You All," from the upcoming offbeat comedy "Frank," but now's your chance to see the masked man himself — Michael Fassbender — perform the song live. The actor hit "The Colbert Report" earlier this week to promote the film, and had something special up his sleeve (even if it isn't the full Wu-Tang Clan reunion that was going on over on the "The Daily Show"). Donning the papier maché head from the movie, Fassbender took to the TV studio and belted out "I Love You All." And that's all we're going to say about it, so you should just watch the clip below. "Frank" opens on August 15th.
