Heavy Metal, aka Metal Hurlant, has long been considered one of the definitive anthology comics of all time – telling some of the most fascinating sci-fi and fantasy stories ever comitted to print and inspiring writers and artists alike. Created by Jean Giraud (better known under his legendary moniker, Mœbius) and Philippe Druillet, Metal Hurlant was one of the first examples of the “mature” comic as we known it today. Debuting in 1974 and spanning 146 issues, the anthology book inspired both the animated Heavy Metal in 1981 and its sequel in 2000 – a sequel which was a star vehicle for iconic scream queen and Penthouse Pet Julie Strain (who would reprise her role in the video game Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.2). Metal Hurlant Chronicles debuted in 2012 with a six-episode season that was followed by another sixer in 2014. Each episode is a standalone story set on different worlds and the unifying thread of the show is the titular Metal Hurlant, an asteroid passes through the solar system and encountering the various worlds that the show introduces. With a smattering of genre cameos from the likes of Blade Runner’s Rutger Hauer, Indiana Jones’s John Rhys-Davies, and Terminator’s Michael Biehn, the show shoots itself in the foot by seeming more like a narrative revue of past shows, specifically The Twilight Zone and Star Trek, than a wholly new and exciting creation.

Add this to the many things I didn't know: Alejandro Jodorowsky, the director of such surreal masterpieces as El Topo and The Holy Mountain, and the subject of the recent documentary Jodorowsky's Dune wrote two episodes of the Heavy Metal television series, Metal Hurlant Chronicles.
Point? Now I want to see them episodes.
The titles of the episodes are "Loyal Khondor" and "Master of Destiny" and by the looks of the teaser for "Loyal Khondor" below, Jodorowsky is that much closer to making his Dune movie.

On Monday, April 14, at 8Pm, Syfy will be premiering its newest series, "Metal Hurlant Chronicles". The show is imported from French company We Productions and follows the sci-fi anthology Metal Hurlant, better known in the United States as Heavy Metal.
We got a sneak peek and will let you know what to expect.
The episode Syfy shared with Dread Central is "King's Crown," based on a bloody tournament being held to determine the new king as the previous ruler is nearing death.
The episode is absolutely loaded with awesome fighting action featuring Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins. The athleticism and choreography displayed in the various dueling scenes is easily worth the price of admission here.
Aside from the fighting, which is obviously the centerpiece of the episode, the acting is okay and the digital effects are very good at times, but not always consistent. There are a few spots...

Here is our first look at season two of the TV anthology series based on the Heavy Metal comic books (or, Metal Hurlant if you're from Europe). The first episode is called "The Endomorphe" and with its vaguely WWII trench-style look and, well, mutants, I can't help but see a striking resemblance to Simon Hunter's visually striking Mutant Chronicles.
I don't think the first season ever aired on TV domestically, but the Blu-ray is available in various regions.
Metal Hurlant Chronicles Season 2 stars Michael Jai White, Darren Shalahvi, Michelle Lee, Fabien Houssaye, Silvio Simac and Alexis Dumas.

I had no idea that a TV series was being created around the popular magazine Heavy Metal. I think most of us have just been waiting around for David Fincher's movie to happen. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that film is moving forward anytime soon.
This new TV series is called Metal Hurlant Chronicles, and is only set to air in France for now, but I imagine somewhere down the line that it will be released in the U.S. as well. The series has already filmed two seasons that feature 12 half hour long episodes. Some of the actors involved with the series include Rutger Hauer, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Kelly Brook, James Marsters, Joe Flanigan, Michelle Ryan, and David Belle.
Here's a description of the series:

Still waiting for that big-screen adaptation/remake of “Heavy Metal”? Why bother, it’ll probably never happen. I mean, it’s not like there’s a big audience out there for adult-themed animation, or am I wrong? I can’t see that film ever getting made, is what I’m saying. Have no fear, though, because there’s another way to satiate your “Heavy Metal” thirst — in the form of an ongoing TV series consisting of 26-minute episodes adapting stories from the original “Metal Hurlant Chronicles” comics (translated into “Heavy Metal” for domestic consumption). And like the “Heavy Metal” comics, the episodes will range from Action, Heroic Fantasy, to Science Fiction. Co-written and directed by Guillaume Lubrano (I’m not sure, but I think Lubrano directed every single episode), the show’s initial run will be two seasons, with 6 episodes per season. Currently the show has been picked up in France,...

I'm curious to what extent working in anthology format on the upcoming Metal Hurlant Chronicles affected composer Jesper Kyd when he tackled the soundtrack for Darksiders II. The musician, whose soundtrack work has been part of Hitman for Io Interactive and Assassin's Creed at Ubisoft had a vast, empty, post apocalyptic landscape to work with in Darksiders II and I wouldn't have been surprised if the initial instinct with that kind of thing is to hit the player over the head with the usual driving horns and percussive sounds we've come to associate with Skyrim or Kingdoms of Amalur.
Instead, Kyd's produced a work with an almost sci-fi sound, a strange and still fitting complement to Death's savage attempts to bring the human race back to life and redeem his brother, War. After spending a few hours with the Darksiders II Ost, I spoke to Kyd about his work on...
