Featured review
A Shaolin monk on the run from a Manchu warlord, and his mighty Shaking Eagle Style. After narrowly escaping the warlord, the monk is nursed back to health by two brothers. However, the warlord is close behind, and the brothers must learn Lo Han style from the monk to protect themselves. However, when one of the brothers is killed, the other, with help from the monk, seeks revenge.
Though considered a kung fu comedy; these humorous episodes are restrained, and there's more serious and emotional phases such as an assault and murder of a woman, which sparks off a revenge angle. It's quite fun film, with the two comic duo quite entertaining to watch. As usual, the final fight is hard and furiously choreographed- there's some good weapon scenes featuring Tung Wei - the student of Bruce Lee in Enter of Dragon - who fights really well ( he co-choreographed the fights) and has some charisma. Pity he didn't become a bigger star. There's a campy villain in here who has this whiny scream as he fights, and in a strange shaking Eagle style. Overall, this is a very good Kung fu film with a tense ending.
