THE SUMMER OF MY 19TH YEAR promises porn romance but delivers merely assembly line sex. The loveliness of the leading lady, portrayed by fresh face Jade Laroche, is all that kept me watching.
Marc Dorcel is known for his relatively lavish productions, but this one seems to have been a victim of the ongoing worldwide economic crisis. Instead of a superstar cast (Katsumi, etc.), glamorous settings and expensive-looking action scenes, all we get are some pretty girls on holiday in Ibiza, humped in a two-story villa or out by the pool.
Director Hervé Bodilis, who made the entertaining FRENCH CONNEXION, is really slacking this time, with a lengthy night sequence that is very poorly lit, grainy and has the sex in an ugly monochrome "night camera" green. What would constitute experimental cinema in another context is just ultra-cheap here.
Film, per Dorcel's usual mode, has dozens of language options, in both s'track and subtitles, but even when I opted for Frech track most of the French was merely in voice-over narration by the young heroine. The sex scenes had the cast basically speaking English in direct sound, though the English was limited to "F**k me!" and "Yes, yes!" gibberish.
Non-story has Jade and pal Sabrina frolicking with plenty of sex with big-dicked guys as well as each other. Lion's share of the humping is carried by busty blonde Tarra White, who demonstrates skill at anal sex and d.p.'s. A boring orgy and Jade's stand-up sex scene wearing only snazzy red shoes (Zalman King, here's a crappy video for you!) would be considered the "highlights".
My cheap thrill was noticing the resemblance between Jade and my fave Jennifer Connolly, circa JC's sexiest screen era, when she busted out in CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. It was fun to fantasize what she might have been like doing porn, courtesy of this trick casting.
Otherwise it's a tedious exercise that wasted a romantic sounding title on ephemeral XXX junk.
