The Room at the Top of the Stairs

A socially awkward young woman moves into a room in a shared house and struggles to fit in until she takes on some characteristics of the previous tenant.

The story shows how ready young people are to buy into drama, and how easily it can be exposed as fluff if only someone tries. An interesting exploration of an outsider, unskilled in the ways of her peers but stronger than she first appears. This character reminds me of Kay, the 'normal' sister in Jane Campion's Sweetie, both in appearance and mannerisms.

Interesting symbolism, although I didn't always know what was going on and some of the dialogue is like mud.
