Alec Baldwin and Stephen Dorff get caught up in the dangerous world of cutting timber in the Pacific Northwest in the trailer for Clear Cut.

Lionsgate releases director Brian Skiba’s thriller feature theatrically and via digital and on-demand on July 19. Clive Standen, Lucy Martin, Jesse Metcalfe and Tom Welling also star in the movie that centers on Jack (Standen), who tries to leave his past behind him when he starts a logging job but finds that a team of criminals with a score to settle are out to kill him.

“Logging is the deadliest profession in the world,” Baldwin warns Standen in the trailer. “Sure you want to get into this line of work?”

Later, Baldwin is skeptical of Standen’s ability to keep up in the profession. “I had a greenhorn like you once before,” Baldwin tells him. “Couldn’t make it through his first day without screwing up.

Ship of the Damned opens with a brief prologue set on board a pirate ship in 1622. As the ship sails through a storm, the crew prepare for dinner. Which for them means rather tamely hacking a bound woman to death and eating her raw flesh. In the present, Elena has her martial arts training interrupted by a phone call from her ex, Michael. He hasn’t taken the breakup well and keeps finding reasons to call her, but this time it’s legit, even if it doesn’t sound like it.

Tom Felton, best-known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” franchise, is to star in the $15 million action/sci-fi film “Altered,” alongside Richard Brake, Igor Jijikine (“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”), Aggy K. Adams (“The Witcher”) and Liza Bugulova.

The film is set in an alternate present, where most of the human population have undergone genetic enhancements. Two courageous outcasts, Leon (Felton) and Chloe (Bugulova), become embroiled in a battle for justice within a society fractured by genetic disparity and in the grip of corrupt politicians.

As Alec Baldwin’s legal challenges continue with Friday’s indictment stemming from the 2021 Rust shooting, he has made moves to shore up his finances, which includes the star starting to appear at fan conventions and having relisted his longtime Hamptons home for $10 million under the asking price from roughly a year ago.

In a video posted this week by real estate brokerage firm Saunders & Associates, Baldwin talks to the camera about his fond memories with the 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom home located in Amagansett on Long Island’s South Shore. Pavan Grover, a writer and producer on the recent action thriller “97 Minutes” starring Alec Baldwin, has spoken out about standing firm with the star in the aftermath of “Rust.”

Grover, a Houston-based spinal surgeon with a passion for cinema, debuted as a writer in 2002 with “Unspeakable” starring Dennis Hopper, and served as a producer on “Odd Thomas” (2013), based on Dean Koontz’s novel and directed by Stephen Sommers (“The Mummy”).

Grover pitched the idea of “97 Minutes” — a ticking-clock thriller in which a hijacked airplane has 97 minutes before it runs out of fuel — when he met Baldwin serendipitously at Sundance in early 2021. Once Baldwin was attached, the project raised coin via presales, distribution and American and international debt financing, based on the actor’s value in those markets.

There is something deeply irksome about this film: it’s called 97 Minutes and yet is, in fact, roughly 93 minutes long. Not that making it longer would have improved it particularly, but ensuring it unfolded in real time would have slightly enhanced, at least in formal terms, an otherwise decent but nondescript action thriller. In this film’s world, the clock starts ticking when a vaguely defined quasi-Slavic terrorist cell hijack a plane bound for JFK over the Atlantic Ocean. During the tussle for control, the pilot is seriously injured, the co-pilot killed, and the fuselage pierced by a couple of bullets from 3D-printed guns, creating an unstable altitude-pressure situation.

Directed by Timo Vuorensola and starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alec Baldwin, “97 Minutes” raises a difficult moral dilemma: is it worth sacrificing an entire plane of innocent people to save the lives of thousands? The movie takes us on an entertaining ride of action, suspense, and tension aboard a 767.

Original? Not really, but it’s a decent watch for a lazy afternoon and easily forgettable the next day.

Storyline

Actor Alec Baldwin claims he “lost five jobs” after a shooting on the set of Rust left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead.

In a new interview with CNN, Baldwin said the October 2021 incident has cost him numerous acting roles. “I got fired from another job yesterday…There I was all set to go to a movie, jump on a plane … I’ve been talking with these guys for months and they told me yesterday we don’t want to do the film with you because of this.”

The movie from scribe George Mahaffey is set across Europe and will begin shooting later this year in Budapest.

Exclusive: Alec Baldwin has partnered with veteran actor and producer Anjul Nigam (Grey’s Anatomy) to form film and TV production company Persona Entertainment, whose first project will be on sale at the upcoming Cannes market.

Baldwin and Nigam were among producers of Rust, the film whose production was halted last year when Dp Halyna Hutchins was killed from a bullet discharged from a gun that contained a live round.

Baldwin is due to star in and exec-produce Persona’s first project, psychological thriller False Awakening, about a man whose waking nightmares start to fuse with his everyday life.
