Karol G made history at Thursday’s Latin Grammys. As she accepted the trophy for Best Urban Music Album, the Colombian star became the first woman to win the category twice, thanks to her LP Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season).

She took the stage singing along to “Qlona,” her collaboration with Peso Pluma from the project, and thanked her family and fans for their support. She also snuck in a shout-out to her boyfriend, Feid.

“This goes for that album, and for the rest. For Ferxxocalipsis as well,” Karol said onstage.

The winners of the 25th Annual Latin Grammys were announced on Thursday, Nov. 14. The first results were revealed at the Premiere Ceremony at 1:15pm Eastern. Then the rest of the prizes were handed out during an event that aired live at 8:00pm Eastern on Univision, Galavisión, and ViX.

The movie follows a mysterious mermaid who has been trapped and forgotten for years in the water tower of a small Southern town. While talking to Cam Gigandet about their insight into the movie, he revealed that he portrays a cop who is a bully toward Billy, who Jack Kilmer portrays.

The film was written and directed by Adam Sigal who has directed directed “Chariot”, starring John Malkovich, Rosa Salazar and Thomas Mann. In 2022, he wrote and directed Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose, starring Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver, Christopher Lloyd and Neil Gaiman.

Terry Press is officially reuniting with Steven Spielberg.

Amblin Partners has tapped the veteran and widely regarded Hollywood studio executive in the newly created role of president of strategy and communications. The announcement was made jointly by Amblin founder Spielberg and CEO Jeff Small.

In the newly created role, Press will join the executive team and will oversee the strategy and execution of all elements of marketing, publicity, consumer products and communication strategy for the film and television divisions of Amblin Partners and Spielberg. She is not filling the job vacated recently by top corporate communications exec Dan Berger.

Press — known for her wit and sharp eye — served as head of marketing for a decade at DreamWorks Skg, the now-defunct studio launched by Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg. Stronghold is a dystopian tale of resilience in which a young survivalist and her mother live completely isolated in the woods. When a distressed stranger appears, their lives are disrupted and their future threatened.

It’s last call for a number of films and TV shows leaving Netflix in June. Director Frank Darabont’s underrated Stephen King adaptation “The Mist” exits on June 21, while the end of the month brings the exits of “Jerry Maguire,” “Puss in Boots,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a pair of “Resident Evil” movies and Brad Pitt’s pretty-ok zombie actioner “World War Z.”

Also departing on June 30 is the first two seasons of “Chappelle’s Show.”

All-in-all, however, it’s not a robust list so rest easy knowing an exodus isn’t coming to Netflix. This month at least.

Sharon Horgan could be set to follow in the footsteps of another acclaimed multi-hyphenate, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, by earning Emmy bids for both writing and starring in a beloved show. UK-based sales firm 101 Films International has acquired worldwide sales rights to six Christmas films, all directed by US filmmaker Lane Shefter Bishop.

101 is launching sales on all six titles at this week’s European Film Market.

The titles include An Eclectic Christmas, about the instructions left behind in the will of a vintage store owner; Christmas Beneath The Stars, in which a blogger helps an ex-military man restore a Christmas exhibition; and Christmas On The Rocks, when a lady pretends to be her event planner sister in order to save an important client.

A wedding without some sort of drama is hardly a real wedding, and the star-studded cast and characters of The People We Hate At The Wedding certainly deliver on that front. Based on the book of the same name by Grant Grinder, The People We Hate At The Wedding was released on the streaming platform Prime Video by Amazon Studios on November 19, 2022. Initial reviews of the film are largely indifferent at best, pointing to the larger phenomenon of comedy movies becoming a dying form in Hollywood.

The day has finally arrived: Netflix has ads.

On Thursday, the streaming giant officially released its “Basic with Ads” tier in the United States. The cheap(er) subscription plan includes four to five minutes of ads per hour, with each ad being about 15-30 seconds long. These spots play both before titles and in the middle of films and TV episodes. There’s certain exceptions; when new Netflix original films coming to the streamer, like “Knives Out 2,” all ads play before the movie starts. However, not all movies have the ad-tier option.

Four of the movies on the streamer’s current Top 10 are unavailable on the plan. Those titles still appear in searches on the ad tier, but they’re marked with a red lock icon in the right-hand of its thumbnail. Clicking on an unavailable film opens up a window prompting the user to change their subscription in order to access the content.

Premiering on October 25, 1997, Under Wraps was the inaugural Disney Channel Original Movie. The cornerstone of the network’s programming proved to be as close to appointment viewing as it got for ‘90s kids, along with the likes of ABC’s Tgif and Nickelodeon’s Snick. Moreover, Under Wraps served as a gateway to horror for many millennials. Before the age of streaming, catching a mummy movie on the same channel where you watched Disney cartoons and Boy Meets World reruns could have been your first exposure to the macabre.

Disney attempted to recapture the magic with last year’s Under Wraps remake. The original movie was successful — and continues to hold up 25 years later — for several reasons; relatable kid leads, a great Halloween atmosphere, and a sense of humor chief among them. Director/co-writer Alex Zamm and co-writer William Robertson (Inspector Gadget 2) smartly maintained those elements for the new iteration.

A new month has arrived, which means a fresh batch of movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix. While many are no doubt still making their way through “Stranger Things” Season 4, June brings the arrival of a new season of another beloved Netflix series: “The Umbrella Academy.” The third season of the semi-superhero show premieres June 22 and finds the gang stranded in a timeline where the Umbrella Academy does not exist, while battling not only a rival team but also plenty of timeline-altering shenanigans.

In terms of new Netflix original films, June 17 sees the debut of “Spiderhead,” a psychological thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett and directed by “Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski.

June will also see the debut of the new Adam Sandler-fronted basketball inspirational drama film “Hustle” on June 8, while a litany of comedy specials from the likes of Pete Davidson and Amy Schumer...

Summer is about to finally, blessedly be in full swing. And to honor the occasion, Hulu is showing up big with its list of new releases for June 2022.

Hulu is bringing two major TV titles to its stream this month. The first is The Orville: New Horizons on June 2. Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi/comedy started as a simple Star Trek parody on Fox before blossoming into its own entirely sincere space adventuring beast. Now “New Horizons” promises to be a fresh start for the series on Hulu. Next up is Only Murders in the Building season 2 on June 28. Season 1 of this Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez-starring series was a big hit. Let’s see if our favorite podcasters can pull it off once again.

Exclusive: Actress, model and singer Bella Thorne (Midnight Sun) has been set to star in thriller Saint Clare, co-scripted by Guinevere Turner (American Psycho).

The project will follow Clare Bleecker (Thorne), a quiet catholic college student with a divine vocation for killing. The story is based on novel Clare At 16 by Don Roff, with its novel sequel out in 2023.

Producers are in negotiations with Rebecca DeMornay (Jessica Jones) to join the cast, with additional casting of other key roles underway. Production is scheduled to begin soon in Kentucky.

The film will be directed by Mitzi Peirone (Braid) who has also scripted with Turner (who co-wrote the screenplay for cult Bret Easton Ellis adaptation American Psycho). Producers are David Chackler, Arielle Elwes, Thor Bradwell, and Joel Michaely.

Screen Media has picked up worldwide rights to the project and will have its Foresight Unlimited division launch international sales at this month’s Cannes market.

Exclusive: Soo Joo Park (Sense8), Brock O’Hurn (The Righteous Gemstones), Bella Thorne (Measure of Revenge), Laird Hamilton (Point Break) and Duke Nicholson (Us) are the latest additions to the cast of the dark comedy The Trainer, which Tony Kaye (American History X) is directing from a script by star Vito Schnabel and Jeff Solomon.

The film currently in production, after nearly a decade in development, is based on an original story by Schnabel. Unfolding over eight days of sleep-deprived chaos, it follows Jack (Schnabel), a down-on-his-luck fitness expert living with his mother in Los Angeles, who takes a maniacal swing at fame and fortune, trying to realize his version of the American dream. Julia Fox, Steven Van Zandt, Taylour Paige, Stephen Dorff, John McEnroe, Gina Gershon and Luka Sabbat are also set to star. Details with regard to the characters the newest additions to the cast will be playing are being kept under wraps.

Exclusive: Corbin Bernsen (Showtime’s City on a Hill), Timothy V. Murphy (TNT’s Snowpiercer) and Jeremy Holm (House of Cards) have signed on to star in the horror film Herd, from director Steven Pierce.

The indie co-written by Pierce and James Allerdyce tells the story of a woman who ends up trapped between a zombie outbreak and warring militias as she tries to outrun her past. Pierce is producing Herd as the inaugural feature under his newly-minted Fp banner, alongside Allerdyce, Lori Kay, Matt Mundy and Bret Carr. Production will commence in Missouri early next month.

ABC has ordered the pilot for “Not Dead Yet,” a single-camera comedy from writing duo Casey Johnson and David Windsor, executive produced by McG.

“Not Dead Yet” follows 40-something Nell Stevens, who is down on her luck, low on cash and newly single. When she lands the only job she can find, writing obituaries, she starts receiving life advice from an unlikely source. The pilot is based on Alexandra Potter’s romantic comedy novel “Confessions of a Forty-Something F—k Up.”

Mary Viola and Corey Marsh also executive produce under McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision banner. 20th Television is the studio.

Johnson and Windsor are best known for writing “Greek,” “Don’t Trust the B—– in Apartment 23” and “Galavant.” In 2016, they created and executive produced “The Real O’Neals,” starring Martha Plimpton and Noah Galvin, which ran on ABC for two seasons. In Hello Stranger, Faye (Brewster) attempts to replace her newly deceased husband, Evan, with an android simulant (Sim). Although Sim Evan appears like human Evan in every way, Faye does not feel the same love for Sim Evan as it does for her. Sim Evan tries to win Faye back while at the same time being on-the-run from a government agent (Worthington) chasing down SIMs who have become “conscious” and could potentially be a threat to humankind.

Exclusive: Toks Olagundoye, Hari Nef and Ian Duff have been cast as series regulars in ABC drama pilot L.A. Law. The C & Earth corporation, vying for global dominance, seeks to find a solution to an otherworldly technology via a scientist’s project. Meanwhile, a financial analyst, who despises his job at the powerful investment firm Mutual One, finds himself caught between deadly corporate rivals, financial fraud, and technological espionage, and is ultimately forced to run from a psychopathic military contractor.

Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired international rights to elevated thriller Measure Of Revenge starring Melissa Leo and Bella Thorne and is launching talks with buyers at next week’s AFM 2021 Online.

Peyfa directed the story about Lillian Cooper (Leo), a New York stage actress who enters the murky underground rock scene to investigate what she believes to be the suspicious death of her rock star son. Inspired by the characters she has portrayed on stage, Lillian forges an unlikely alliance with her son’s former drug dealer (Thorne) to find the truth.

The cast includes Jake Weary and Adrian Martinez.

“Free Guy” (Disney/$19.99) is now on Premium VOD after a 45-day window, “The Addams Family 2” (United Artists/$19.99) is new at theaters and on PVOD, and even though it will be weeks before box-office champion “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Sony) makes its PVOD debut, it’s already making itself known on the charts. The platforms’ uneasy relationship continues to evolve.

It was a great weekend for theaters with “Carnage” taking in $90 million domestic, a success hinted by strong VOD showings the week prior with the 2018 “Venom” (Sony). The upcoming premiere of Buddy vs. Duff on the Food Network will feature a competition between Cake Boss reality star Buddy Valastro and his fellow baker, Duff Goldman of Cake Masters.

But no matter who wins, Valastro will come out ahead. That’s because he thought at one time he’d never bake again after a gruesome injury to his hand.

The two-hour premiere of Buddy vs. Duff arrives this Sunday, and will kick off with Valastro sharing updates on his recovery. The freak accident that damaged his wrist happened at his home bowling alley last September, with a metal rod impaling him as he tried to fix a jam.

McG has officially signed up to direct the pilot episode of Turner & Hooch, Disney+’s reboot of the classic 1989 buddy-cop comedy feature. The TV series, which has a 12-episode order, comes from Matt Nix and 20th TV. McG also will serve as an executive producer on the series, which is now in production.

Like the movie, the hourlong series centers on Scott Turner, played by Josh Peck, who now is a U.S. marshal — versus the police detective played by Tom Hanks in the movie. When the ambitious, buttoned-up marshal inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.

In addition to Peck, the series also stars Carra Patterson, Brandon Jay McLaren, Anthony Ruivivar, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jeremy Maguire and Vanessa Lengies. Five French Mastiffs also star as Hooch, Scott’s slobbery, loveable French Mastiff, Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd and Mya.

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.

Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.

There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. Screen Media has picked up the U.S. rights to Chad Faust’s revenge thriller Girl, which is toplined by The Duff star Bella Thorne.

Writer/director Faust’s feature directorial debut will bow at Fantastic Fest later this week, ahead of a day-and-date release in November. Faust (The 4400) also stars in the film shot in northern Ontario.

Thorne plays a young woman who returns to her small hometown intent on killing her abusive father, only to discover someone else got to him first. As she searches for answers, the young woman uncovers a family legacy more dangerous than imagined.
