The film was ready to be released as early as 2009, but was delayed to coincide with Thor (2011).

During the bar fight scene, Loki hands Thor a small hammer to fight with instead of his sword. This foreshadows Thor's later use of the legendary hammer, Mjolnir.

This animated film takes place in the Earth-8096 version of the Marvel Comics multiverse, together with Wolverine and the X-Men (2008), The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (2010) and Hulk Vs. (2009).

This is the last Marvel Animation animated film distributed by Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Although this animated film premiered in 2011, it was produced in 2009 according to the credits.
