Warner Bros Discovery has finally nailed down plans to go the Fast route. Last year — in between an intense bout of cancellations and titles being pulled from their streaming home on HBO Max — the company announced plans to explore a free ad-supported television option (Fast). During the company's third-quarter earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav made a point of saying that there's "a huge amount of content that's not even on [HBO Max/Discovery+] that's sitting with us that hasn't been put to monetize in the marketplace." In the spirit of cashing in, a new plan has been enacted. Over the next few months, 14 Warner Bros. branded Fast channels will arrive on Roku and Tubi.
Have you been longing to return to the days of cable television, with free TV shows being regularly interrupted by ads? Don't bother answering, because it's happening either way! The new Warner Bros Fast channels will feature popular titles including "Westworld,...

Excited for Justice League? We sure hope you are, as we’re only a couple of days away from release now and we’re seeing a steady flow of information about what happens in the film. But why not set all that juicy plot stuff aside for a moment and check out this expansive collection of official images from the movie? Some of these appear to be stills from the film itself, while some are promotional shots and some are behind-the-scenes snaps. All together, though, they give us a decent idea of what to expect from Friday’s blockbuster.
Each member of the League (sans a certain Kryptonian) is featured here, along with multiple looks at the villainous Steppenwolf and some of the less promoted side characters. If nothing else, the collection shows the care and craft that’s gone into the movie, with the close-up looks at the costume...

The show with perhaps the best key art (or at least, the cheesiest) in all of television is coming to an end. “The Night Shift” won’t be back for a fifth season, NBC announced Friday.
“We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “For four seasons ‘The Night Shift’ gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need.”

Following a delay in production and release, this weekend brought about our first look at the final Maze Runner movie, The Death Cure, teasing an intense and explosive finale. Come inside to check it out!
If you've been eager to get your first look at Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the first trailer arrived last night during the Teen Wolf series finale. If you missed it, however, you can check it out right here:
The Maze Runner movies have been among the most surprising Young Adult movie adaptations to hit in recent years, at least for me personally. I wasn't expecting much from the first movie, but was surprised at how engaging the characters were and the tension the filmmakers managed to bring. The sequel opened up the world with a larger threat while retaining the character connections. All together I'm eager to see how this franchise wraps up and...

Taking the adventure of a puzzle game using a specialized, high-tech gun and running through a series of test areas isn't a brand new concept, but is always an interesting one. Being a huge fan of Portal, I was instantly intrigued to see another game being developed that featured this type of gameplay and brought with it a brand new element!
Pixel Maniacs has developed Chromagun, originally released on Steam, and brought it over to consoles. Taking their intricate puzzles to new heights, what with it increasing in difficulty the higher floor you reach, they give you a new toy to play with and use colors to make your way through the various challenges!

Kevin Federline has learned that co-parenting with your ex means making sacrifices.
The 39-year-old father-of-six -- including 11-year-old Sean and 10-year-old Jayden with Britney Spears -- opens up in a new interview about what raising kids with a pop star ex is like, and how splitting the time causes him to miss out on certain things, such as Father's Day.
"I’m used to not having all my kids, and this is gonna be one of those years," Federline tells Bravo's Personal Space. "When you are co-parenting, you have to be willing to give up some of the things you would really like to do. My boys will be gone, their mom’s off in Asia on tour. They are with me until the 15th, and then they are gone for the rest of the month. So I won’t have the boys for Father’s Day."

There's a moment early in the new season premiere of the FX crime drama Fargo when a parole officer recalls how he met his fiancée, a slick hustler named Nikki Swango (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead). As the episode flashes back to Nikki at a police station, getting booked and photographed, fans of filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen might experience some deja vu. The situation, the way it's shot, and even the way the crook gets yanked around by the authorities – it's all right out of the Coens' 1987 comedy Raising Arizona.

Like Kelly, I am not a happy camper after watching Chicago Fire Season 5 Episode 18.
Not only is Anna inexplicably cutting bait, but the Lee Henry plot was unbearable. Thank god for Gabby and Sylvie (isn't that always the case?), the best ladies to learn the job from.
Oh, and Matt did some stuff that wasn't horrible or boring or confusing. Yay for Matt, I guess.
I'm trying to come up with the words to describe how annoyed I was by Lee Henry's storyline, but I'm experiencing mini rage strokes, so bear with me.
The premise was fine, I suppose, but my god was it poorly executed. I get it, the Colin Kaepernick kneeling thing is a story again, because maybe nobody in the NFL will hire him because of it -- or maybe because he's not a reliably strong player? I don't know, I watch TV, not sports.
But please.

2017-03-30T07:15:33-07:00'Ghost in the Shell': Not Your Typical Sexy Heroine
Although much of the conversation around the new movie Ghost in the Shell is about Scarlett Johansson, a white actor, starring in a Japanese manga-inspired film, there's another key aspect being overlooked: the feminist win the movie represents for women in the action genre. As the lead in Ghost in the Shell, Johansson's character, Major, isn't sexualized; a robot with a human brain, fighting crime in a futuristic Japan, she has no love interest, and no defined sexuality. All together, it's a groundbreaking move for the action genre.
If you've seen the trailers, Major not being sexualized might sound odd, considering that Johansson appears in a skin-tight bodysuit that acts as Major's actual nude body. But, as a mechanical being, Major isn't made to be sexual. There are no lingering shots of her breasts,...

Michael Glatze – the titular “Michael” of I Am Michael – rocked the Lgbt community with both positive influence and negative poison (a life story that he sold for $75K). His pursuit of purity is what drives Justin Kelly’s biographical drama, playing out an age-old war between religion and homosexuality. An old-school journey through acceptance, everlasting scorn and homosexual damnation with extreme responses to holy turmoil, still socially relevant for openly gay individuals in today’s far-more accepting world. Kelly wants to speak to broader audiences, and he accomplishes just that – but with such an extreme example, are the messages received by all open ears?

Films by the Coen Brothers can be hit or miss for audiences, and there isn’t much to predict how things are going to go when you enter the theater. From the wide variety of genres, to the level of wackiness inherent in any given picture, you can certainly tell a Coen Brothers film when you see it, but you don’t know if you’ll love it.
Hail, Caesar! is a film that ups the game when it comes to the zaniness pushing forward the layers that don’t appear to have much to do with each other, and that makes it a hard sell even to Coen fans. The focal character, Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), or at least the pinball that we watch bounce around this madness, doesn’t quite get a chance to solidify himself into someone worth watching. Moana is the story of a young Polynesian heir ineffably drawn to the one thing that her community opposes: venturing out into the ocean, like the little mermaid was so drawn to land, like a monster to Boo, and like an ambitious rat was to the culinary arts.
Moana Head of Animation Hyrum Osmand (Zootopia, Frozen, Wreck It Ralph, Tangled) and Story Artist David Derrick Jr. (How To Train Your Dragon, Flushed Away, Bee Movie) talked with the press in a roundtable before speaking to the visual arts students at the University of Denver. Tucked away in a corner of the university, David tapped into what made Moana so personal to him, allowing him to segue easily into the film’s themes of Polynesian ancestry and culture while Hyrum explored the unique challenges this particular film offered Disney’s elite animators.

When “The Knick” debuted on Cinemax two years ago, it marked a substantial shift in content for Cinemax. HBO’s double-a affiliate took a swing in the big leagues with Steven Soderbergh’s beautifully captured period piece, and, while it didn’t exactly strike ratings gold, “The Knick” did earn the network a lot of attention — from critics, awards shows and the industry at large. So it makes sense that the network would follow up one dark period piece with another of similar construction. The only problem? “Quarry” suffers from the same issue “The Knick” did: They backed the wrong protagonist.
“Quarry” tracks Mac Conway (Logan Marshall-Green), a Vietnam veteran returning home to Memphis after his second tour of duty. A minor celebrity for all the wrong reasons, folks back home suspect Conway did some bad things overseas — worse things than are required of war veterans. This overwhelming perception makes...

Have you noticed something odd on Game of Thrones this season? The merciless killing of the direwolves out of nowhere. Daenerys bursting back onto the scene, yet Drogon remaining safely off-camera. Several high profile fights and deaths fading to black (in Arya’s case, literally) before things could really get going. It was almost as if HBO had slashed the budget for their flagship show, and were hoping no one would notice. Or that they’d funneled the Gdp of a small country into Episode 9, the “Battle of the Bastards.” Episode 9 of Game of Thrones is always a big budget affair. From “Baelor” and “Blackwater” to “The Rains of Castamere” and “The Watchers on the Wall,” the show doesn’t play around when it comes to climaxes. Combine that pressure with director Miguel Sapochnik (who also did last season’s amazing “Hardhome” episode), and you have a recipe for the largest medieval television battle of all time. But just how large? According to Entertainment Weekly, ludicrous speed large. Some highlights: • 600 crew members. That’s 600 people that had to be bused in to Northern Island, fed, paid, and generally kept happy enough to not run their mouths with spoilers. • 500 extras. All those bodies in the preview clips and photos? Many of those are real people, not digital creations added after to create the illusion of bulk. Which means 500 people that had to be costumed, choreographed, and paid. HBO even had the “teams” train separately to foster an air of competition. Combine these folks with the crew and so far the “Battle of the Bastards” production is the size of a small town. • 25 stunt people. Extras and actors can’t be (legally) expected to do some of the trickier shots in battle. Which means Game of Thrones had to bring in professionals to make those stunts look as real as possible. • 70 horses. Yep. Seventy. Horses are notorious for being difficult to work with and coordinate for battle scenes. Not to mention super expensive. Even well-trained animals can get nervous running at a line of people screaming and wielding weapon props. According to EW, adding in horses can more than double the amount of time it takes to shoot a scene. Time is money, and horses are money pits. All together, over 1,000 people spread across four camera crews took almost a full month to film this episode. When you split the budget for Season 6 of Game of Thrones evenly across all 10 episodes, the average comes out to $10 million per episode. But clearly all episodes aren’t created equal and a nice chunk of that went into making the “Battle of the Bastards” a spectacular piece of television. But it’s also probably why we can’t have more direwolves and dragons. You win some, you lose some.

A review of Captain America: Civil War — designed, like my TV episode reviews, to be read after you've seen it, which means there will be many many spoilers — coming up just as soon as you try some of my date loaf... It's an odd thing, Civil War. During the movie this morning, I was enjoying nearly every individual scene and how well the writers and the Russo brothers managed to juggle an absurdly large cast of pre-established characters (plus a couple of new ones in Black Panther and the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man) and give everyone at least one big moment (a literal one for Ant-Man, whose brief turn as Giant-Man was wisely hidden in all the pre-release hype). The movie squeezes in over a dozen Avengers, past, present, and future, has to do a lot of heavy lifting to introduce Black Panther and the nation of Wakanda (and...

“About three years ago, a 20-year-old boy was murdered in Santiago because he was gay. He was tortured for hours: his legs broken, a swastika carved on his stomach using shattered bottles, a piece of his ear torn out. By coincidence, that young boy was a fan of my work as a musician and I knew who he was because we’d spoken a couple of times. I met his family and they urged me to continue “speaking on behalf of boys like him”, not usually represented in the media or even art: in short, a gay and poor kid.”
This is what motivated Alex Anwandter, a widely acclaimed Chilean musician to make “You’ll Never Be Alone”/ “Nunca vas a estar solo”. However, he adds,
“This story, however, shifts its focus onto the father of the boy. This is my way of saying: it was not one boy, it’s many boys and girls, and women and men. And the life we should examine more carefully is not the boys’, it’s the rest of us. We who allow this to repeat over and over.”
Born in Santiago, Chile in 1983 Alex’s career as a musician started in 2005 to immediate and widespread acclaim in Chile and South America. His first four albums were released to critical and commercial recognition and subsequent touring the U.S., Europe and Latin America, becoming one of Chile's most renowned artists.
Growing up as a big cinephile, Alex Anwandter took to directing music videos for his own projects and other artists in 2005.
Named by Time Magazine as an artist “poised for U.S. stardom”, his music
and videos have been featured everywhere from Billboard to Vice Magazine and MTV, with NPR celebrating his video for “Cómo puedes vivir contigo mismo?”, an homage to “Paris is Burning”, for its courageous message of equality and non-discrimination.
In 2012 Alex Anwandter started preparing a new phase in his career.
Moved by the murder of young Daniel Zamudio, a gay boy murdered in a hate-crime in Santiago and fan of his work, Anwandter wrote his first script “You’ll Never Be Alone”. The film won both Sanfic’s and FICGuadalajara Work in Progress sections in 2015. In 2016 at its World Premiere in the Berlinale’s Panorama it won the Teddy Award’s Special Jury Prize and went on to win Ficg’s Premio Maguey, its top Lgbt Award.
In Guadalajara I caught up with the producer, Isabel Orellana Guarello of Araucaria Cine and asked her the following questions:
Sydney Levine: How did you finance “You’ll Never Be Alone”?
Isabel Orellana Guarello: We financed the shooting with private investment and sponsorship provided by the Recoleta Municipality of Santiago and the association with the film school of University of Development ( Escuela de Cine Udd) and Ortega Maniques.
After the shooting we obtained help from the Postproduction Fund supported by Council for the Arts & Culture of Chile (Cnca). There was also an important amount of investment provided by 5Am Producciones & Araucaria Cine, the companies that produced the film.
Sl: Did you participate in pre-markets, workshops, etc.?
Iog: The film participated in two competitions of work in progress, one in Sanfic October 2014, just 2 months after we wrapped the shooting, and which we won. And after that the film participated at Films in Progress at FICGuadalajara, where we won two prizes provided by Retina HD and Red Melissa.
Also the project participated at Sanfic Net and Industry Days of Locarno Film Festival both in 2014 and 2015 as part of the catalogue of projects of Araucaria Cine.
Sl: How did you choose your actors?
Iog: For the main character of Juan we directly contacted Sergio Hernandez, whom we loved from previous collaborations with Raul Ruiz and Sebastián Lelio.
It happened in the same way with other cast members such as Edgardo Bruna (the boss of Juan), Antonia Zegers (the doctor) Camila Hirane (the bank executive).
For the young cast we did an open call organized by Ivan Parra Reinoso, We searched in several acting schools and finally reached out to Andrew Bargsted (Pablo) and her real-life best friend Astrid Roldan (Mari). Both had an amazing chemistry between them.
In the open casting call we also found Jaime Leiva (Felix, Pablo's lover) and Benjamín Westfall (Martin, the leader of the Nazi gang).
All together, they created an amazing casting of which we're very proud.
Sl: How did the producers come on board, and particularly Daniel Dreifuss (my friend)?
Iog: I met Daniel Dreifuss at Sanfic Net in 2014. I pitched the project to him since I felt he could connect with this story and he definitely did. Then he finally came on board as Executive Producer of the film in 2015.
Sl: Does the film have Chilean distribution and if so what is the plan?
Iog: The film has already secured Chilean distribution and we're expecting soon to have the specific release dates. The film is gaining a lot of attention back in Chile and audiences are waiting for it after its success at the Berlinale and Guadalajara.
Does it have an international sales agent?
Iog: Yes, the international sales are handled by Wide Management, a French company. We actually met them at Films in Progress 2014!
Sl: How did you come to this project?
Iog: I came on board in February 2014, after meeting Alex through a common friend.
When I read the script - that he'd been working for 2 years already- I was profoundly moved by it. We started working right away. The shooting was in July 2014, so everything was pretty fast.
Sl: Does this depict Chile today?
Iog: Unfortunately yes. Just the same day we received the Teddy Jury Award at Berlinale, a Chilean transgender boy was shot and killed in San Bernardo, Santiago. His name was Marcelo Lepe.
These homophobic killings will continue to occur if there is not deeper reflection about our society and our actions. That's why we made “You'll Never Be Alone”.
Sl: Will this film go toward changing the situation?
Iog: We hope so. We still believe that cinema can make strong change of hearts and minds. So we're eager to show the film in Chile and also Latin America, and hopefully open some debates around the issues of homophobia and social injustice depicted in the film.
We also have a plan with the Municipality of Recoleta to show the film at high schools inside their Sexual Diversity Program, when we complete our commercial release.
It's very important to us that the film is discussed inside Chile and we're making all our best efforts for that to happen.
Sl: What are your current and next projects?
Iog: The director Alex Anwandter is currently releasing his new album "Amiga" in April. So new music videos and songs are coming up from him.
About me as producer, Araucaria Cine is currently producing a feature documentary with director Roberto Collio (“White Death”) and Rodrigo Robledo, named “Petit Frère” which will compete at Focus Chile in Visions du Reel 2016. Also I'm developing a feature doc with Maria Jesus Valenzuela, “Interna." Both projects were funded by the Council of the Arts & Culture and Corfo Chile.
This is what motivated Alex Anwandter, a widely acclaimed Chilean musician to make “You’ll Never Be Alone”/ “Nunca vas a estar solo”. However, he adds,

Last week, we saw The Grinder flounder a bit. This week, we see the show at its best. Part of that is undoubtedly due to the return of breakout Grinder actor Timothy Olyphant, played by Timothy Olyphant — but it's also a tightly structured episode with an unusually razor-sharp focus. Plus: The cast nails a ton of smart, funny, fast-paced dialogue.I'm thinking of the first exchange, which follows a Sanderson family screening of a Grinder episode that revolves around one of those "What did you just say" moments. You know the trope, right? One character says some seemingly innocuous word, which suddenly causes the protagonist to Put It All Together? (For the record, Black Dynamite lampooned this better than anyone.) Anyway, Dean gets upset when Stewart does idle paperwork during the episode, thinking he missed the "what did you say" moment. He didn't, though; he just thought it was ridiculous.

Joe Golem: Occult Detective #2 picks up where issue one stopped and builds on the previous issue where Joe Golem saves children from The Rat Catcher, a water monster. Now, Joe continues to search Lower Manhattan for The Rat Catcher. The artwork from Reynolds is dark and gritty, which fits the detective story just right. The rough nature of the artwork fits well with setting up the mood of the comic as well as the action scenes. The writing from Mignola and Golden shows wit with the sly nature of Joe. Furthermore, the comic’s plot unfolds its mystery at a steady pace. All together, Joe Golem: Occult Detective # 2 stands out as an interesting detective story.

With Teresa Giudice serving a federal prison sentence for most of the year, her brother, Joe Gorga, and his wife, Melissa, are stepping up in ways that she can't.
Sunday's episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Teresa Checks In, the second in a three-part special, showed the Gorgas being there for the Giudices, despite the family's sometimes turbulent history.
At one point in the episode, Melissa took her daughters out with Teresa's girls for a spa day, where she checked in with each of them to see how they have handled their mom's absence (while Milania...

Two YouTube celebrities can now say they have their own digital greeting cards. Tyler Oakley and Lilly Singh (aka IISuperwomanII) are the main focus of a new selection of online e-cards, thanks to a partnership between YouTube and Someecards.
A Someecards rep said in an email the online e-cards company worked closely with its in-house team to create cards which captured the spirit and character of both Oakley and Singh. For example, one digital greeting has a picture of the ever-polite and cheerful Oakley with his eyes closed and a cheesy grin on his face next to the words, “Sometimes I wish I could just close my eyes and make you agree with me.”
The greetings were created with shareability in mind, which has worked out well for a few of the cards in particular. One digital e-card featuring Singh garnered over 37,000 shares, while another with the 27-year-old Canadian vlogger pulled in 33,000 shares.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #34
Written by Jeremy Whitley
Art by Andy Cook

Letters by Neil Uyetake
Published by Idw Publishing
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic tends to be either about the slice of life events of the main six ponies such as issues of being a good friend or a town fighting against itself. Yet, on the occasion between the daily events, there are the beginnings of an epic tale. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic #34’s plot unfolds with masterful pacing and an exciting battle in the middle of the story. Price’s art conveys both the humor of the series and outrageous battle scenes while truly showing the conflict behind the villain characters. Whitley’s writing matches the tone and mood of the artwork as the plot builds to a grand story. Together, Price and Whitley bring to life the promising...

Winter is coming and, after that, "Game of Thrones" Season 6 will be showing up in the spring. No one battles like GoT and it sounds like at least one doozy of a fight is headed our way in 2016.
Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) recently talked to The Sunday Times and dropped a little hint about a Season 6 scene she had been shooting in Northern Ireland. Here's a portion of the story, via Gwendoline-Christie.com:
I've been fighting for three whole days, three entire days without ceasing or desisting. Really vicious, vicious, up-close, thuggish fighting." Who with? "I can't tell you. I could, but I'd have to maim you." Who won? "Again, it would be the last thing you ever knew."
Nice. Three days of shooting a vicious, up-close fight. Brienne was just seen killing (we think) Stannis Baratheon. Who is she fighting this time? Well, we don't know, but some hints were...

Bravest Warriors #36
Written by Kate Leth (Backup by Jason Johnson)
Art by Ian McGinty (Backup by Kat Leyh)
Colors by Lisa Moore
Published by Boom! Studios
The power of friendship and redemption is victorious in Bravest Warriors #36, which is the final issue of Kate Leth and Ian McGinty’s excellent run on the series. In their sixteen issues on the title, they went beyond the cartoon’s mythos showing Catbug’s evil brother and father, giving Plum a lovely girlfriend named Peach, and homaging everything from Pacific Rim and Agatha Christie to The Great Gatsby and Lord of the Rings in a clever, silly manner. This final issue is a little low on suspense, but Leth and McGinty more than makes up for it by giving each Bravest Warrior a crowning moment of brilliance or funny, which play out in a character and plot twist.
Superficially, Bravest Warriors #36 may seem...

As I write this piece in my college dorm, my favorite Smash Bros.-themed Amiibos from my vast collection are to my right, and a playlist of competitive Smash for Wii U matches is playing on my iPad to my left. I didn’t think to put this playlist on to get me in the mood to write about the same game, and I certainly didn’t realize that the little statues meant that I’m sandwiched in between Smash as I write about it.
The simple fact is that I love it, so much so that it bleeds into my everyday life, even nearly a year after its release.
Smash 4 Uniquely Breaks My Game-playing Formula
Sometimes, when people learn I like playing video games, they ask me a simple question: What do you play? Then I have to go on my diatribe about how I like...

Swords of Sorrow #3
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist:Sergio Davila
Colorist: Jorge Sutil
Publisher: Dynamite
Swords of Sorrow # 3 is part of a collection of works being established by a groundbreaking team of all female writers at Dynamite. The comic works to bring together many different heroines from the Dynamite comics. Swords of Sorrow#3 has mixed genres, time periods, and beautifully rough artwork. Writer Gail Simone has this issue focus on Miss Fury and Black Sparrow in New York during 1939 alongside a subplot with Dracula and his daughter. Artists Sergio Davila and Jorge Sutil support Simone to their fullest with different colors from the various time periods and costume designs. If any flaw is to be found in the artwork it would be the heroines’ costume designs due to a lack of variety and some images lack the feeling of motion. All together, Swords of Sorrow #3 will give the reader a fast...

The fictional city of Vinci serves as the setting of the noir that is "True Detective" season two. Vinci is a place built on corruption and graft and despite having a minuscule population, money moves through the local government at an alarming rate. Nic Pizzolatto's city is actually based on a real place - Vernon, California (via The Hollywood Reporter). Based on a 2010 census data, Vernon had a population of 112 residents but more than 1,800 businesses called the city home. Corruption in the city dates back to the 1940s with a specific focus on the city's founder, John Leonis. Any charges leveled against him were eventually dropped before his death in 1953 which allowed his grandson, Leonis Malburg, to take power. While serving as mayor for more than 50 years, Malburg led a city council that saw uncontested elections every year from 1980 to 2006, and operated on an annual city budget of $300 million.
