2014's Vampire Academy was based on a bestselling young adult novel series, and poised to kick off the next hit YA movie franchise, but Vampire Academy 2 never happened. Directed by Mean Girls' Mark Waters, the Vampire Academy movie adapts the first book in the series by Richelle Mead. It follows best friends Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch), a Dhampir (human-vampire hybrid), and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), a Moroi (a breed of peaceful vampires), who run away from their boarding school, St. Vladimir's Academy, only to be caught and forced to return.
The first Vampire Academy novel was published in 2007, a time when young adult book series, particularly those centered around the supernatural, were booming in popularity. This was the same year that both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight Saga, were published. Both of those series went on to become such huge movie...

The Cheerleaders series had 15 authors, including Christopher Pike and Caroline B. Cooney, who wrote only 4 out of 47 books in total. The series was hugely successful, with a new book released every month for four years, offering readers frothy, catty, teen drama filled with romance. Cheerleaders were a hot YA topic in the '80s and '90s, especially in horror-thriller series like the Fear Street Cheerleaders and Caroline B. Cooney's Vampire's Promise trilogy.
The '80s were known for their explosion of pulpy YA series, and one of the most popular - Cheerleaders - has a very unusual origin. While Caroline B. Cooney is best-known for her YA horror-thriller books, the longest-running series that she started is her Cheerleaders series. The series followed the trials and tribulations of high school cheerleaders, including friendship troubles and rivalries, romance, and heartbreak.
It's hard work writing any series, let alone one that has dozens of installments.

Jerry Seinfeld’s highly touted (and largely panned) feature directorial debut, “Unfrosted,” spent four days leading Netflix’s top 10 movie chart before another Netflix original, “Mother of the Bride” starring Brooke Shields, took the slot before the thematically appropriate weekend holiday.
“Unfrosted” led for just four days, with “Shrek” from 2001 leading midweek before the debut of “Bride.” The Dreamworks animated classic is still in second place, while Seinfeld’s Pop-Tarts comedy dropped to fourth.
“Bride” comes from director Mark Waters. Perhaps best known for his “Freaky Friday” remake and the original “Mean Girls,” Waters went on to direct “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “Vampire Academy,” and “Bad Santa 2.” In the new rom-com, Shields is a mom who realizes the father of her future son-in-law broke her heart decades ago.

You'll want to sink your teeth into this update! Vampires were just about everywhere in the mid '00s: The Twilight franchise dominated the box office, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries aired on television and teens devoured the Vampire Academy book series. However, at a certain point, Hollywood's obsession with vampires began to wane. For instance, even Tvd's first spinoff The Originals ended its run in 2018 after five seasons. Yet, just when we thought true crime documentaries would be the obsession of now, American Horror Story and Midnight Mass have proven that blood-sucking characters still have a place in TV. We first spotted the return of vampires in part one...

Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy is one of those beloved book franchises that should have gotten a TV series adaptation at least five years ago. Set in a world in which two distinct races of vampires—the Moroi and the Strigoi—exist, the six-book series centers the best friendship between Moroi princess Lissa and half-vampire bodyguard Rose.
While the series was made into a pretty good movie starring Zoey Deutch back in 2014, it was one of those adaptations that, while fun, didn’t actually do a good job adapting its source material. Now that Peacock has announced a series adaptation from Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec and promising “the elegance of aristocratic romance” combined with “the supernatural thrills of the vampire genre,” the Vampire Academy fanbase might finally get the adaptation they’ve long been asking for. Spain is no longer a distant country for international film and TV shoots, as the industry builds dramatically amid a flash flood of public financing.
In May 2020, as the first wave Covid-19 roiled the country, Spain’s Psoe socialist government raised the cap from €3 million ($3.6 million) to $14.4 million for both tax rebates for international projects and tax credits for local productions. Deduction rates edged up from 25% to 30% of investment.
In March, prime minister Pedro Sánchez raised the ante with a $1.9 billion Avs Hub Plan for 2021-25 to power up the local film and TV production industry and encourage big foreign players to shoot and set up production offices in Spain.
Already, thanks in part to a vaccination drive decimating infections, international shoots in Spain surpass pre-pandemic levels.

At the age of just 24, Anya Taylor-Joy already has a string of critically acclaimed performances under her belt, and her life story is just as interesting as the work she does on the screen. Born in Florida but raised in Buenos Aires, Taylor-Joy didn’t speak a word of English until she moved to London with her family at the age of eight.
After being discovered by a talent scout and starting off as a model, she went into acting and her first big screen credit ended up being left on the cutting room floor of dismal horror comedy Vampire Academy. Following a handful of TV gigs, she was then plucked from obscurity to headline Robert Eggers’ atmospheric chiller The Witch, receiving rave reviews in the process.
Following that, Taylor-Joy played the female lead in M. Night Shyamalan’s box office smash Split before reprising the role in Glass, and...
