Night Call had its world premiere as the opening film at the Biarritz Film Festival - Nouvelles Vagues on 18 June 2024, where it won the Audience Award.
When writer/director Michiel Blanchart was writing the movie, at the end of the second COVID-19 wave, he was living near the Palace of Justice in Bruxelles, where many Black Lives Matter demonstrations were happening. The anger from the crowds really had an impact on him, and so he tried to put it in his script.
Shot in Bruxelles in March and April 2023.
Michiel Blanchart wanted his first movie to happen during the night. This constraint made him think about the idea of the unity of time, and so he developed the movie as a tense chase, with everything happening during one night. He was also very intrigued by the job of an emergency locksmith, as someone who is called in the middle of the night to destroy people's locks, who you have to pay cash, and who must see stuff they weren't supposed to see, and so he had found his main character's job.
