Blacktop International has announced major territory sales here on horror Cinderella’s Revenge starring Lauren Staerck and Natasha Henstridge from Species.

Deals have closed for German-speaking Europe (Tiberius Film), Latin America (Great Movies), Nordics/Scandinavia (NjutaFilms), Middle East (Phoenicia Pictures), and Cis (Movie Distribution Network).

Jd Beaufils of Blacktop International negotiated the deals on behalf of the filmmakers and is continuing talks at the EFM.

About eight months ago, we heard that Natasha Henstridge of the first two Species movies and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, among other credits, had signed on to star in Cinderella’s Revenge, which gives the classic fairy tale a horror twist. Last week, it was announced that the film is set to receive a theatrical release on April 26th, courtesy of Iconic Events. Now a trailer has arrived online to offer a glimpse of what this film has in store for us when it reaches the big screen, and you can check it out in the embed above.

This theatrical release is part of an exclusive deal with Regal, with Quiver Distribution handling all other rights in North America.

Cinderella’s Revenge has since made its way through post-production, and now The Wrap reports that it’s set to receive a theatrical release on April 26th, courtesy of Iconic Events. Exclusive: Lauren Staerck (Trust) and Natasha Henstridge (Species) are underway in England on Cinderella’s Revenge, a film that Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers) is directing for Mark Amin’s Sobini Films, that will give the classic fairy tale a horror twist.

In the film, Cinderella (Staerck)’s wicked stepsisters and stepmother push her too far, leading her to swap her glass slippers in pursuit of blood-soaked vengeance with the help of her Fairy Godmother (Henstridge).

Also starring Stephanie Lodge, Beatrice Fletcher, Megan Purvis and Darrell Griggs, Cinderella’s Revenge is produced by Sobini Films’ Amin, as well as Mark Lester, Cami Winikoff and Jessica Mathis.

“Cinderella is the most famous fairy tale in the world,” observes Amin. “We were able to develop a great horror script that is also a female empowerment story with global appeal.”

The idea of retelling placid and gentle children's fairy tales in a bloody, horror milieu is hardly new. Think of a fairy tale or beloved children's classic, and odds are good that someone has already transformed it into a horror movie. Off the top of my head: Neil Jordan made a horror movie out of Little Red Riding Hood with "The Company of Wolves" in 1984. Later, in 1996, filmmaker Matthew Bright brought the same story into a scuzzy modern setting with "Freeway." 1997 saw the release of "Snow White: A Tale of Terror" with Sigourney Weaver as the evil queen.

"The Little Mermaid" was transformed into an awesome 2015 horror musical called "The Lure." Pinocchio starred in "Pinocchio's Revenge." The Gingerbread Man was transformed into "The Gingerdead Man". A quick stroll through the spider-webbed hallways of Tubi might reveal titles like "The Curse of Sleeping Beauty," 1995's "Rumplestiltskin," and multiple films called "The Tooth Fairy.

Before going viral with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, writer, director and producer Scott Jeffrey was already tapping classic fairytales, myths and legends for his low-budget British horror companies Jagged Edge Productions and Proportion Productions – taking familiar childhood tropes and turning them on their heads, oftentimes making a bright, cheerful kids thing onto a film of sheer terror. That path has given us killer tooth fairies, evil leprechauns, a demonic cupid, a terrifying Humpty Dumpty and a Hills Have Eyes-esque duo of Jack and Jill… Perennial kid’s nursery rhyme characters turned into a couple of inbred, hillside-dwelling psychopathic killers!

Unfortunately for The Legend of Jack and Jill things fell a little flat thanks to the one-dimensional characters and the fact it wasn’t really that scary.

The gruesome trailer for Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s twisted take on childhood classic Winnie the Pooh revealed the bear’s true animalistic tendencies. “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” centers on Pooh (Craig David Dowsett) and Piglet (Chris Cordell), who have survived years without food as Christopher Robin (Nikolai Leon) grew up and forgot about them. The duo gorge on Eeyore, only for Christopher to then introduce them to his new wife without realizing they have gotten “increasingly hungry and feral” since he was away.
