With whispers and rumors of a new quest circling round my head, I descended from the astral plane with my trusty companion, Tomacticus (my brother in law Tom).

We traveled to the far reaches of this land to join our sworn allies in the campaign (we went to the theater).

Upon close inspection we found we were joined with a great number of experienced champions.(the theater was packed with the right crowd)

We battled hard with great success, nary a fighter was lost (the film was hilarious and everyone loved it).

I returned to the campaign one week later with my true companion (my beautiful, non-gamer wife.)

This time the battlefield was littered with all sort of character classes. Elves, Paladins, Humans, Wizards, Halflings and even Bardladins (a good mix of normal people). Again, we were victorious in our battle (everyone was laughing and loved it) and we left the battleground with shouts of triumph. (people even cheered and clapped at the end)

I will return to this campaign, bringing my trusted allies, and rally for anyone else to join the quest. (I will recommend the film friends, to everyone)

Upon first hearing the movie was by the same creator of Napoleon Dynamite, I was very excited to see Unicorn City. Unfortunately I left a bit disappointed. The movie was a bit too slow moving for me. The movie kind of picked up towards the end, but overall I wasn't too big of a fan. Maybe because I'm not a gamer, I couldn't relate well, and probably missed most of the "inside jokes". I like Napoleon Dynamite much, much better. There were much more laugh out loud moments in Napoleon for me. I do have to commend the chemistry between the lead characters. That felt very genuine. Maybe due to my high expectations, the movie fell a bit short for me.

This is a very funny film. Don't be fooled by the title or that it was made in Utah. There's only one scene with Unicorns and Utah is only vaguely referenced. It's about Dungeons and Dragons trying to be made real only much funnier. You don't need to know anything about that either to find the humor. You just have to know nerds play this game. The centaur steals the show though. The film has heart too but every time a joke is needed there is one to be had,especially from the Centaur who's name is Rhubarb. Also I was told Uncle Rico was in it, but he unrecognizable. Believe it or not he plays the villain. A worthy effort from local film makers. Help make more movies like this get made by seeing it!

Unicorn City is a fun and quirky film, allowing the average viewer to take a peek into the obscure world of LARPing, and then point and laugh without fear of accidentally receiving a LARPer's "lightning bolt." While some comedy films will sacrifice plot for cheap laughs, Unicorn City is a well balanced comedy film. You won't get a laugh a minute, but in-between the laughs, you'll get decent plot and character development. But don't get me wrong, Unicorn City has some great laugh-out-loud moments. Still, it took a few viewings of the film to fully appreciate some of the more subtle humor sprinkled throughout the film.

Unicorn City has a way of worming it's way into your brain so that at 3am when you're replaying your favorite scenes in your mind, they just keep getting funnier and funnier until your wife tells you to sleep on the couch because you just can't stop laughing. That is why I see Unicorn City becoming the next cult classic. While some people may leave the theater not knowing what just hit them, the rest of us will understand not only what just hit us, but also be grateful for the black eye. See this film.

Even if you know nothing about tabletop games (Dungeons & Dragons, Illuminati, etc) or LARPing, you'll still love this movie. For us nerds, this movie is a multi-layered laugh out loud "thank you" card. For the casual movie-goer, it's a quirky trip through the looking glass of nerddom.

The story is what truly drives this film. This movie has heart at its core, and the actors embrace the heart of the material. Everyone involved appears to have been perfectly cast. The beautiful love-interest, the jerky brother, the evil antagonist, and even the bit players with just a few lines (or none at all).

Catch this movie when you can! This is the humor of Napooleon Dynamite the triumph of Little Miss Sunshine, and the heart of The Help. You have to try very hard NOT to enjoy this movie.

Ever seen Napoleon Dynamite? Nacho Libre? Hot Rod? Well, be prepared for the next movie in their genre... Unicorn City.

Unicorn City was funny and worth watching at least once. Just like the other movies listed above, some people may only be able to take so much.

It was so much fun to see the "life" of a gamer. Well, more like so funny. If you know anyone who is a gamer, or you are a gamer yourself, then you will especially enjoy this movie.

I LOVED the costumes. Some of the characters were very funny and some were quite annoying.

Be prepared to laugh hysterically at points and be prepared to have a couple lulls where it slows down a bit.

I happened to come across "Unicorn City" by sheer random luck, and decided that I had to give it a go, especially since I have been playing D&D for some odd 28 years or so by now.

"Unicorn City" is fun for what it is, and I had to look past the whole LARP (live action role-playing) part, because I really don't grasp the concept of that. That being said, then the movie is entertaining and it does have a good story at heart. While it was no "Zero Charisma" or "Knights of Badassdom" it was its own style and held up its own right.

The story is essentially about Voss (played by Devin McGinn) who is kicked out of a local gaming group at the gaming store by their game master Shadowhawk (played by Jon Gries). In his quest to apply for an available at Warlocks of the Beach (yeah, the D&D fans will definitely get that pun) Voss sets out to start a utopia for gamers.

While "Unicorn City" is, what I would assume, a low budget movie, there is just something grander to the production value. The movie makers really pulled it off quite nicely with this movie. And the enthusiasm and levels of commitment by the actors and actresses also really helped add to that.

The people in the movie were doing great jobs with their given roles, and I was more than impressed by the fact that they had managed to get Jon Gries to be in the movie. He carried his role so nicely and really lifted up the movie quite a lot.

The costumes were fairly LARP-ish, but the whole centaur design that was just brilliant. I had such a laugh at that. Not because it was ridiculous, but because it was a stroke of amateurish genius.

If you are a gamer, be it pen & paper, LARP, online, etc. then you should give "Unicorn City" a view, because it is the kind of comedy that will put a genuine smile on your face.

Okay. If you're not familiar with role play games, some of this will be a little difficult to understand. Not in terms of what's going on, but in terms of what the motivation is. I liked the movie, it's funny, it has a face-palm cringeworthiness to it that makes the characters completely endearing. I liked the geekiness and total dedication of the main characters, the lack of understanding from the outside world too. I never played D&D, or went to any comic cons, or anything like that. But I have friends who love it, and yeah. I get it. I also liked that the movie showed how seriously involved the gamers get, and how difficult it can be to deal with all those different personalities in real life. Personally, I think it takes a strong individual to handle the ridicule they encounter for their hobby and the movie got that across nicely. There's more depth than there seems to be, but all in all, I really enjoyed watching it, and had some great laughs. That Centaur...omg lol. If you're into RP gaming in any fashion, I think you'll enjoy the movie. If you've never heard of RP gaming, I think you'll also enjoy the movie, but you will probably come away wondering why people do this.

First off, this is a movie focusing on Voss, an unemployed tabletop gamer who has anger issues and a difficulty separating his real life from his gaming life. He is flanked by younger brother Clancy and good friend Marsha, both who are members of his guild. Requiring money to help pay his share of the rent to his older brother Seth, he interviews for a gaming director's job only to find that he needs to prove his leadership skills in order to stand out. This is his catalyst for creating a gamers utopia out in the countryside for him and his fellow gaming friends. At first life is great in this fantasy world he has created. Then his arch-nemesis ShadowHawk, shows up to tempt the citizens of Unicorn City and cause havoc in Voss's life. Voss must come to terms with his life and determine what is important and what is merely fantasy.

I know I sat down to watch this movie with some reservations. I had preconceived notions it might seem too removed for a non-gamer to fully appreciate most of the movie. I was also worried that there would be a lot of "fantasy" scenes to deviate from what was the true meat of the story. I was extremely surprised to find at the movie that this is quite possible the most I have laughed at a movie so far this year. Sure the gaming aspect was a catalyst for most of the actions and jokes but the real punchlines were everyday frustrations. This is what makes it possible for everyone to find a way to relate to the characters. Also you can really sense the love that they have towards their gaming life. Everyone needs something to escape from their daily lives and this is what they are passionate about.

Some thing else that I loved about the movie is, that even though it was an indie film, it didn't feel like one. The production value was definitely very high, and this goes back to my worry that there would be too many "fantasy" scenes which can easily eat up budget. The acting was very strong in the lead roles with a few of the supporting roles needing a little bit of work. There was definitely a sense of chemistry among the cast that seemed to fill in the cracks where there was a bit of light acting. Many indie's are also plagued by poor sound and an atrocious score. While the sound was nothing per se special, it was still strong and the score was excellent at some points and not affronting during the rest of the movie.

Basically the production team most certainly put their time and money in all the right spots. They focused on story first, and then fundamentals. More movies today need to follow their lead, and learn that in the long run I am going to appreciate this movie more because I don't need a expensive movie setup to get the full experience. I just need to sit back, relax and enjoy. I encourage you to do the same and try help bring it to your city. If you read the title correctly, you would think it's a little kid's film, especially for girls. Even the title design gives the same impression, more like a fairytale. But shockingly, this film was very different. This is about the gamers, the people who are crazy about video games. It was like a comic con, the film characters decide to create a utopia for the gamer with their favourite gaming characters. So they gather outskirt of the town and when everything was going well, they bump into a series of trouble, especially the founder of it. Coming out of it is the rest of the film to reveal.

It is not my favourite, but one of the best B movies I have seen and a bit refreshing. My appreciation is according to how they managed to give this product with the limited financial support. The quality of the film was so good. The performances were well recognisable. Since it was a comedy, sometimes the flaws are gone unnoticed. Not a bad attempt for the first time direction. Though the story was easy, predictable, but still enjoyable. Surely some people will find it good, even better than I did, so I hope this film reaches them instead of those who criticise it.

I saw this movie at Comic Con last year in Chicago, then again at The Chicago Comedy Film Festival. Both times I belly laughed throughout the whole film. A very smart film that isn't just for the Nerd, Dork, or Geek. In fact this movie does a great job at taking a genre that has gotten a bum rap over the years. The film makers did a great job at taking nerd humor and making understandable to everyone. The characters are likable and by the end of the movie you feel as though you where right next to them swinger axes at orcs and saving the fair maiden. This is a great movie that deserves to be watched and enjoyed by literally everyone who loves movies, comedies, and pop culture. Beware the Centaur he holds many secrets!!

I saw this movie twice at GenCon in Indianapolis, IN in 2011. It is my firm and steadfast opinion that it was the best part of my time there. Each character is 100% believable. Anyone who has gamed has known at least one of the characters portrayed, be it the overbearing and power hungry GM, the one who takes it WAY too seriously, or the face-sucking couple. The story is amazingly detailed and wonderfully simple, firmly rooted in fantasy and lightly influenced by reality. This is a wonderful movie for any person, young or old, not just gamers. It's for anyone who has ever wanted adventure, anyone who ever picked up a stick and imagined it was Excalibur. It is a must see for veteran gamers, n00bs, and non-gamers alike.

The movie was very clever and had plenty of surprises along with a cast that was funny and lovable. There was a lot of character development along with an interesting plot that left the viewer entertained and wanting more. There were times in the theater where I could not stop laughing. Somewhat comparable to Napolean Dynamite or Nacho Libre except the main character was just a little too main stream. I would have preferred that he and some of the other characters be a little more nerdy or realistically into that Dungeons and Dragons kind of stuff. But obviously that may have been hard since a real hard core RPG dude would have been offended at the movie and maybe that's what makes this movie so funny.

I watched the trailer and thought it looked funny even though I'm not a gamer. To be honest, I was still slightly hesitant about it, but with in the first five minutes I was so glad I was there.The not so nerdy to ultra nerdy would absolutely love this film. The movie posters stated that it was a cross between Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Napoleon Dynamite and they were right.

Unicorn City had wonderful comedic timing as well as unexpected humor. The storyline was was cohesive and engaging. The friends I went with said the music was a little too much at some points, but I didn't feel that way. It is an amazing independent film that could easily translate to a TV series. The characters were lovable the acting was very good. Support these amazing independent film makers and go see this movie.

This is one FUNNY movie! Whether you're a 20-something gamer or a 60-something old coot who's never played a game newer than Monopoly, you you HAVE to see this movie! I'll admit I'm in the latter category, and I'll admit I went to see the movie because someone twisted my arm. And I'll admit that when I realized this was a movie about gaming, I wondered if I would make it till then end. But within seconds--literally seconds--I was laughing out loud and knew I was in for the duration. And I probably didn't get half the jokes. Amazing writing, cinematography, and production values, which belie the film's "indy" budget. Go see it. Gamer or non-gamer, you'll be glad you did!

This film is one of the most original films I have sen in a very long time, it's a comedy, romance, suspense, heart warming film all wrapped up into one very well produced and filmed movie. This movie brings together so many good things, such as learning to be yourself, trust in your friends, that there are more people out there similar to you than you think, and that sometimes the greatest success doesn't come from running from what you have but instead by embracing its qualities that help you be what you want to be. I was lucky enough to see this at a screening in Chicago last year and also got to meet the cast and some of the crew of the film, the people in this film are not only phenomenal actors and actresses but also truly real people who are easy to talk to, unlike some of the other actors that were seen and met that same weekend from others show who were quite full of themselves. I await its return to my fair city so I may see it yet again :)

I once caught a glimpse of the back room of a game store, and saw those people back there. I giggled a little.

My giggling turned to frequent bursts of loud laughter when Unicorn City immersed me into this world that I had never experienced. I wasn't laughing at them, but along side them. I felt like I was one of them as these charming characters evolved throughout the story. I found myself sharing their hopes, cheering for them. I'm not about to run out and join some gaming group, but the time I spent watching them on the big screen was extremely enjoyable, funny & entertaining. There are several characters you will love by the time this movie is over.

I've heard it compared to Napoleon Dynamite. I like that movie, but I found Unicorn City to be more witty, a better story, and just plain better all around.

I am a gamer and so I expected to be disappointed by Unicorn City. Pleasantly, and unlike so many other films, Unicorn City is able to be humorous without becoming mocking or condescending. This alone puts it ahead of the majority of similar films.

The story does start slowly with the character introductions but the humor comes before you start getting bored. Additionally Unicorn City doesn't use up all its humor at the beginning. Some of the greatest moments of the film come later on when the characters have all been introduced and the audience feels it has become part of some inside joke. The only flaw (and thus a 9 rather than 10 out of 10) is that the main character is rather unlikable throughout the vast majority of the film. This isn't a major problem though because the bad guy is more unlikable yet.

Over all this is a great film with excellent writing and humor reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite. I highly recommend seeing it.
