With Sharknado 5 making a splash on TV screens across the globe these past few weeks, what better time to visit the world of The Asylum? With a myriad of films under their belt, from their beginnings as king of the mockbuster to their foray into original film making, it’s no secret we’re big fans of these bastions of the direct to DVD market and have reviewed a Lot of their output! With that in mind, here’s my pick of the Top 5 (because it’s Sharknado Five… geddit?!?) movies from The Asylum in – shock, horror – order of preference…

An off-the-wall mix of Grimm Fairy tale characters and superhero team-up movies which, frankly, should have been obvious given the title, Avengers Grimm’s plot is relatively simple: when Rumpelstiltskin uses the Magic Mirror to escapes to the modern world taking Snow White with him and destroying the mirror in the process,...

Jokers, circus masters and demonic dolls. Which TV characters terrify you? Den Of Geek asked its writers that very question…
The subconscious is a terrible place; dark, mysterious and peopled by spectres from the past. As a bit of a laugh then, we sent our writers journeying into theirs and asked them to drag out any TV terrors they found lurking in the shadows.
Some television fears had been ensconced there since childhood, others were more recent tenants. Some were morally terrifying; human beings with icy hearts capable of atrocities, others were simply… atrocities.
Join us as we count down in order of terror from the sort-of-creepy to the downright terrifying, the 50 TV characters that, for whatever reason, give our writers chills. It’s by no means an exhaustive list, so feel free to fill in gaps by adding your own peculiar television nightmares below…

Back in 2010 — during the height of the post-“Avatar” green screen Renaissance — Disney released a live-action adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” starring Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp. Directed by Tim Burton, the film was a darkly psychedelic trip through Wonderland. The film was visually stunning but deeply divisive among both critics and audiences. But love it or hate it — or have no strong feelings about it one way or the other — the movie made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Disney is going back for a second helping, especially considering the recent success of their live-action “Cinderella.” Today at the annual Disney Expo, the teaser posters were unveiled for 2016’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” Image Credit: Walt Disney Studios Image Credit: Walt Disney Studios According to IMDb, Linda Wolverton returns as the screenwriter but Tim Burton has not. Review written by Jonathan Weichsel, MoreHorror.com
Last year director Brandon Slagle’s The Black Dahlia Haunting became the indie horror sleeper hit of the year. Now he has come back with Dead Sea, a film that, despite its colorful poster design, is in many ways even darker and more brooding than its predecessor. Fans of The Back Dahlia Haunting will embrace this new film even more passionately, and it will be an even bigger hit. Dead Sea is a film that is sure to make waves, pun intended.
Dead Sea revolves around a small town with a big problem. The town is built around a salt-water lake, and every thirty years a Lovecraftian monster appears and feeds on the local inhabitants until they restore equilibrium by sacrificing one of their own.
This causes a lot of drama within the town, and as with many great monster movies, the real...

Nobody Can Cool is the rather impressive directorial debut from up-and-coming filmmaking duo Dpyx, Marcy Boyle and Rachel Holzman, who crafted a blisteringly taut and thoughtful indie crime thriller with a palpable sense of tension from start to finish. Wonderland is a stylish, hallucinatory science fiction/fantasy horror film from Brandon Slagle and Devanny Pinn, the team that brought you last year’s The Black Dahlia Haunting. With images that range from gritty to glossy, a look inspired by cyber punk, and a script full of Goth poetry, this is a film that is sure to leave an impact.
Brandon Slagle plays The Man of Sin, a serial killer who suffers from a bad case of ennui. The Man of Sin just doesn’t get off on killing anymore. The sensation isn’t enough for him, so he seeks out a new high in a drug called wonderland, which allows him to go inside other people’s consciousness and live in their dreams, where he eventually kills them so he can experience what it feels like when they die.
But even this isn’t...

The 3D global re-release has now added around $90 million to that total since it began rolling out in April, taking it to just over $1 billion. The re-release also took in a whopping $28.8 million in its opening weekend in China this past weekend.
Other films in the global billion dollar box-office club include "Avatar," "Titanic," "Marvel's The Avengers," "Iron Man 3," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," "Skyfall," "The Dark Knight Rises," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "Toy Story 3," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace,...

I’m sure most diehard fans of horror are familiar with The Asylum Production Company: they are after all responsible for some of the most outrageous, cheesy, and unintentionally films to hit the tube. Need a refresher on some of their… unique offerings? How about flicks like Mega Piranha and Two-Headed Shark Attack, just for starters? #Holdyourbreath was directed by Jared Cohn who works from a script crafted by Geoff Meed. Katrina Bowden (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil), Randy Wayne (Ghost Town), Erin Marie Hogan (Paranormal Entity), Devanny Pinn (VIViD) and Gerald Webb (Zombie Apocalypse) star.

Horror actor Bill Oberst Jr. has been in such thrilling films as A Haunting in Salem, Nude Nuns with Big Guns and The Devil Within . Now, this prolific actor has opened his own horror themed website which focuses on body horror, or scaring people with your physique: "Bill draws inspiration from the horror greats to use his face and body in disturbing ways on screen" (Oberst). He contorts in many disturbing ways in some of his more recent films such as Vivid. Let's say you're a filmmaker. And let's say you make a film about a certain secret military base that happens to be in Nevada. What better place to premiere that movie than right up the road in Sin City? And that's exactly what the people behind Area 51 Confidential intend to do.
Described as The Blair Witch Project meets Alien, Area 51 Confidential looks to be a really tense suspense film in the vein of Blair Witch but with the whole interplanetary thing worked in. And now they're going to unleash this project on the world.
Area 51 Confidential will be in Las Vegas during the Black October Art and Film Invasion. Although the schedule is not set in stone yet, the festival runs from October 7-9, and Area 51 Confidential will air sometime during the event.
And, not to be outdone, Oklahoma City also has a screening planned. (Maybe...

Now Braun is back with his highly-anticipated porn parody of "Star Wars," called "Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody," which is set to hit your local porn shops in September. To promote the movie, Vivid has unveiled the official trailer, which is completely safe for work. In fact, outside of a few innuendos, there's really nothing porn-related in it. Bill Oberst Jr. Veteran horror actor Bill Oberst Jr. (Vivid, Scary or Die, Dismal), who has carved out a stake as the go to guy for playing horror movie villains, killers and rapists, attempts to bring some dimensionality to his resume by taking on a thoughtful turn in the indie psychological horror thriller short Overtime.
Overtime is the story of a factory worker, played by Bill Oberst Jr., whose mental and physical health has begun to decline with his lack of sleep. He is haunted by his past and during the course of an ill-timed graveyard shift, he comes to be haunted by images familiar and unfamiliar as he attempts to come to terms with what his life has become. Guided through the night by a Boy from his past, played by Andy Scott Harris, he will relive the moments he tried so hard to forget and will be forced...

Remember back when you was a kid growing up and how you would look forward to the next installment of either A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th starring two iconic horror film villains in the form of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees? Me personally, as a kid, I saw horror thrive, I saw it die out and I saw it come back to life with Scream. I remember as a kid getting excited over such horror films as Popcorn, The Gate II: Trespassers, Ghost in the Machine, Night of the Demons 2, Prom Night III: The Last Kiss, Waxwork, ....heck even stuff like Jack O got me excited. I guess it started back when I was a kid. I was always taking note of whatever horror film was coming out and making sure I knew when it was going to hit video (our theater only played two movies,...

Bill Oberst Jr. is the definition of “the horror actor”, the working actor doesn’t prefer anything outside of the horror genre and wouldn’t have it any other way. Oberst has some cool projects in the works including Vivid and Legend of the Red Reaper, he shares some stories about working on True Blood and MTV’s upcoming horror series Death Valley. The actor keeps busy for sure! Check out my latest Versus with Bill Oberst Jr. to learn more about this hard working cool actor.
Brian S- First off you've really been cranking out film projects since 2007. How'd you get into acting?
Bill Oberst Jr.- I was a bizarre-looking kid who loved monsters and the other kids made fun of me. I learned a useful equation: "If You Entertain People, They Will Not Hit You." So my whole career has pretty much been about trying to get people not to hit me.

Corbin Bleu I never thought in my lifetime that I would be running a post talking about a horror film starring both Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) and Bill Oberst Jr. (Dismal). The two seem so completely opposite of one another. Corbin Bleu was this cute little kid in High School Musical. Bill Oberst Jr. is a frightening, iconic indie horror film actor of such films as Dismal, Vivid & A Haunting in Salem. The two team up together to star in the new horror themed anthology "Scary or Die".
I have to say when I initially heard about the project, I was expecting something family friendly cause of Corbin's background, but it seems that Scary or Die is the full throttle horror that genre fans crave. It also appears that Scary or Die is a solid chance for Corbin to be seen as an adult actor. This masterfully done teaser...

The First poster and character shots have been unveiled for upcoming 80s-set cannibal/slasher film The Locals, as well as full details of the story and cast.
The poster (see above) was designed by comic book artist Dennis Willman. The film is directed by Eric Anthony Pereira, who previously did second unit directing on Piranha 3D and various episodes of the TV series House.

Accompanying them are three of their actors, including an ageing, coke- addicted former centrefold (Tawny Amber Young - Nude Nuns With Big Guns), a bubbly, ditzy porn queen who is out...

Joe Hollow
From Joe Hollow, the director behind the indie slasher event of 2011 – “Cut”, and executive producers Shawn Allen & Debra Lamb comes "Mountain of the Flesh Eaters". Inspired by a short story written by Shawn Allen, Mountain of the Flesh Eaters follows in the terrifying tradition of such horror classics as The Hills Have Eyes & The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as a series of brutal, unrelenting murders plague a small town and the sheriff that gets caught up in the chaos.
Looking to join the ranks alongside those classics, Mountain of the Flesh Eaters will actually be told from the point of view of the flesh eating, blood thirsty cannibals themselves. With Mountain of the Flesh Eaters, film writer Joe Hollow is looking to get beyond the stereotypical characterizations and get to the heart of what makes these cannibals who they are. What makes them tick? What makes them engage in these cannibalistic activities?...

Rachel Grubb Rachel Grubb is one of the hardest working actresses out there having exploded onto the indie horror scene earning around 50 acting credits in the past five years. Some actors are brilliant playing one type of role over and over again in their career, but they're one note. Rachel Grubb is the chameleon, slipping in and out of roles with ease playing a wide variety of characters. Sometimes she's the butt kicking, take charge kind of person and sometimes she's the helpless heroine running for her life from a crazed madman. Sometimes she's the hot babe and sometimes she's on the nerdier side of things. Rachel Grubb is defined by her ability to not be defined. She keeps it interesting by taking on so many different types of roles and gives her fans something to look forward to as they know she doesn't play it safe or boring. Here's...

Here's the scariest sentence you will ever read - you might want to gird your loins and usher small children away from the computer. Ready? Ok. "From the makers of Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans and Vampires Suck". shudder Yes, there's another one, called The Biggest Movie Of All Time 3D.This one spoofs - you guessed it - Avatar. And no doubt other 3D epics as well, and probably also whatever random bits of pop culture the filmmakers happen to have noticed over the past few years. After all, their last effort, Vampires Suck, took scattershot aim at Alice In Wonderland and the Black Eyed Peas for no obvious reason (and we know that just from making it through the trailer). No doubt this one will turn its incisive comic gaze - wait, that should be 'moronic "comic" efforts' - to everything from The King's Speech to...

Song of the Shattered Song of the Shattered, which stars Devanny Pinn (Piranha), Brandon Slagle (Vivid) and Tara Cardinal (Delivery), has been picked up for distribution by York Entertainment and will even even have a screening at the Cannes film festival in France this year. For raising scream queen Devanny Pinn, this was one of her favorite films that she has worked on to date as she wrote additional material for the film and co-produced.
Song of the Shattered makes statements on abuse with plenty of grisly, hair raising violence. An effective, potent film, Song of the Shattered deals with a young woman who finds herself spiraling out of control, a year after killing her murderous husband in self-defense, as she starts mimicking his brutal actions on those closest to her. Leading actress Devanny Pinn was nominated for Best Actress and Tara Cardinal for Supporting Actress by this site in...

Danny Lopes From WetWork Media and Clearwater Productions comes "The Locals". With The Locals, producers intend to reach out to horror fans of all ages. The Locals will play up to the moderness of the "found footage" horror sub-genre whiles seamlessly incoporating an 80's slasher angel with some cannibalism that harkens back to the popularity of this sub-genre in the 70's. The Locals will also play up to urban legends and tale talls while capturing the fondness some fans share for the VHS camcorder style of horror all in a cohesive narrative. In the process, The Locals is bound to give each different type of horror fan something to look forward to.

Michael Berryman in Cut "Its Hard For A Family To Stay Together When Killing Runs In Their Blood"
For mainstream horror fans, Wes Craven's Scream 4 is the slasher event of the year. However, for us indie horror fans another film is turning out to be the most eagerly anticipated horror film of the year. That film happens to be Cut from directors Joe Hollow and Wolfgang Meyer. Deemed the indie slasher event of 2011. Cut captures the flavor of Italian horror mixed with slasher elements and of course plenty over the top gore, nudity and sleaze thrown in for good measure.
In Cut, an all star horror cast lineup including Devanny Pinn (Piranha), Kane Hodder (Hatchet), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), Tony Todd (Candyman), Brandon Slagle (Plasterhead), Deneen Melody (Slices of Life), Wolfgang Meyer (15 Till Midnight) and Rachel Grubb (Vivid) star in tale of a crew who rents...

Think back to Robert De Niro (Heat). Think back to Al Pacino (Scent of a Woman). Robert De Niro was known for his intensity. Al Pacino was known for his flashy screen presence. Now think of veteran character actor of horror films, Bill Oberst Jr. (Dismal, Vivid, The Devil Within). Bill Oberst Jr. has both the flash of Pacino and the intensity of De Niro. It's the best of both worlds in one package. And directors and producers are taking notice. In less then four years, Bill Oberst Jr. has had well over thirty film credits. Since he works his fair share in the horror genre, he is often seen playing the villain or the creepy guy or even, on occasion, the rapist. However, Bill Oberst Jr. wants you to know that their is more to him then just that. That he has an extra layer of dimensionality. That he's not just one note.
