Bernard Lewis: Mutually assured destruction is not a deterrent, it's an inducement because that is what they're hoping for.
Featured review
Newt Gingrich ran for the Presidency of the United States in 2012. This film outlines his ideas about foreign relations with Islamic nations and his assessment of President Barack Obama's approach to dealing with the Middle East. Not surprisingly, he disagrees with Obama's foreign policy.
Gingrich. who landed on the national stage as a Congressman from Georgia's Sixth Congressional district in 1976 when Republicans were a minority party, gained the reputation as a bomb thrower. For example, he said: "Democrats will bring to the United States the joys of Soviet- style brutality and the murder of women and children." Of Democrats, he said in 1989: "These people are sick. ... They are so consumed by their own power, by a Mussolini-like ego, that their willingness to run over normal human beings and to destroy honest institutions is unending." His statements were more projection than observation, and in the early 1990s, his party took the majority in the House. After the victory, he cobbled together an agreement called the "Contract for America."
Famously wrong about large issues and unable to curb his nasty tongue, Gingrich lauded family values while he married three times and became known more for his adultery than his moral prowess. He left a sick wife in Georgia and married a younger one in Washington. Ruthless and opportunistic, Gingrich took control of the House of Representative during the Clinton Administration. He led the charge to have the President impeached for adulterous acts, acts which Gingrich himself was at least as guilty. The Republicans finally booted Gingrich from the Speakership after he was found guilty of ethics violations and lying to the Ethics Committee.
Pompous and ineffective, Gingrich seems to have no insight into his own lack of character, and he is often seen hurling accusations at others which fit him more aptly. His dishonesty and hypocrisy are often on display on right wing media outlets. Right wing media is responsible for this propaganda piece which was created to bolster Gingrich's failed run for Presidency. His presidential run in 2012 was financed almost exclusively by Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas casino billionaire, who bet big and lost big on Gingrich.
The usual right wing voices and faces are seen on camera. The group could be dubbed "Team Wrong," as their vapid and distorted views of problems in the Middle East have been proved wrong time and again.
