Exclusive: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for Universal Pictures is growing by three more as Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales and Maurice Compte have joined the cast in unspecified roles, sources tell Deadline.
Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot with new Imax cameras, is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer which follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The tale includes iconic stories like Odysseus’ encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in a reunion with his wife Penelope.
The cast is led by Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie and Charlize Theron. The ensemble also includes Himesh Patel, Elliot Page,...

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger haven't made a solid action movie since their prison film Escape Plan - which is over a decade old. For many critics, the first Escape Plan movie arrived far too late. Had Arnie and Stallone made a film together in the 1980s or 1990s, that would have been considered a major event. Instead, their first feature-length collaboration - after Arnold had previously cameoed in two of Stallone's The Expendables films - arrived in 2013. Escape Plan bombed domestically and only received 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, but thanks to overseas audiences, it grossed $137 million.
The film was a decent-sized hit, but nobody considered it a highlight in either Stallone or Schwarzenegger's filmographies. Time has been kind to Escape Plan though, and while it lacks the bombast and bodycount of the films they made during their heydays, it's still a great night's entertainment. Sly and Arnie's careers have since gone in different directions,...

John R. Countryman, who billed as the child actor Johnny Russell appeared in films with Barbara Stanwyck, Tyrone Power, Shirley Temple and Jimmy Stewart before serving as a U.S. diplomat and ambassador in the Middle East and Africa, has died. He was 91.
Countryman died Dec. 14 in Loudoun, Virginia, after a short bout with pneumonia, his daughter, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Secretary Vanessa Countryman, told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the biggest role of his brief acting career, Russell portrayed Tyltyl, the younger brother of Temple’s Mytyl, in the fantasy film The Blue Bird (1940), which was Fox’s answer to MGM’s The Wizard of Oz, released a year earlier. In a dream, the two kids set out on on a series of adventures.

The Bear season 3 picks up where season 2 left off, telling the story of the titular restaurant set against a varied soundtrack consisting of many artists and songs both new and old. Since The Bear season 2's dramatic ending, audiences have been eagerly anticipating the continuation of creator Christopher Storer's intensely human story. The Bear tells tales of high-end dining and Michelin stars but is at its best when focusing on the people at the center of those stories, brought to life by The Bear season 3's excellent cast.
As of The Bear season 3's ending, each character receives their due share of screentime as they navigate work life, personal issues, and deep-rooted trauma against the backdrop of fine dining. Oftentimes, as a way to offset the emotionally heavy storylines of the show, Storer wisely integrates various songs from a vast collection of artists, as was the case with The Bear season 2's soundtrack.

Very few things can inspire the feeling of youth like a music video that immortalizes the trends and culture of the times. And they’ve come a long way from projections of still images paired with a live performance.
People were wildin’ out with their puffy leg-of-mutton sleeves in 1894, part of the decade called the “Gay Nineties” to the song, “Little Lost Child.”
We have the ’60s and ’70s to thank for advancing us from the methods of the “Naughty Nineties.” These are real names for the 1890s. Let that sink in.
(NBC, HBO, ABC, Paramount Pictures/Screenshots)
Due to its namesake, it didn’t take long before film and TV became the special sauce in crafting some visual masterpieces.
Over the years, that trend has only grown, with artists of countless genres jumping on the bandwagon.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of the first MTV Video Music Awards, a milestone that’s somewhat blunted by the realization that this isn’t your mother’s VMAs. The network handed over the reins to viewers beginning in 2006, letting them pick the winners in all of the main categories. And in recent years, the VMAs have moved even further away from the “video” designation of its name, doling out moonmen for Song of the Year and Song of the Summer.
One thing that hasn’t changed about the VMAs, however, is the opportunity for show-stopping performances, something MTV acknowledged this year with a new Most Iconic Performance category. The winner in that race, Katy Perry, was also bestowed with the semi-annual Video Vanguard award. From Perry flying through the air like a, uh, firework to Madonna rolling around in a wedding dress at the inaugural VMAs in 1984, we...

People massively underestimate Arnold Schwarzeneggers acting abilities; hes proven with movies like Maggie and The Terminator that hes not just a one-note action hero. Schwarzenegger started out as a bodybuilder before making the transition to acting, and as with anyone who comes to acting from another field whether that field is music, wrestling, or something else his dramatic capabilities have been consistently underrated. Theres a misconception that Schwarzenegger plays the same character in every movie, like Dwayne The Rock Johnson, but thats simply not true. Schwarzenegger has played all kinds of roles, from a killer cyborg to a pregnant man.
Schwarzenegger certainly has a familiar on-screen persona that can be seen in a lot of his action movies, like Commando and The Expendables saga, and that on-screen persona is a lot of fun to watch. But hes shown time and time again that hes capable of so much more than that.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country unexpectedly foreshadows Captain James T. Kirk's (Chris Pine) favorite song in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies. Star Trek VI is set in Star Trek's Prime timeline, whereas J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond are set in the alternate Kelvin Timeline. However, Star Trek VI takes place in 2293, over 3 decades after J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies happen in the alternate reality, which span from 2258-2263. Yet the word "sabotage" is curiously relevant in Star Trek VI, which was produced in 1991, 18 years before J.J. Abrams directed his first Star Trek movie.
"Sabotage" is a popular song by Beastie Boys, released in January 1994 as the first single from their album Ill Communication. Although "Sabotage" never came close to hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Beastie Boys' track was a huge hit on MTV thanks...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage bombed both financially and critically. Director David Ayer's original vision for Sabotage was even darker and had a different ending for Schwarzenegger's character. Sabotage could benefit from an "Ayer Cut" to restore deleted scenes and improve the film's reputation, similar to the situation with Suicide Squad.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage is a thinly-veiled remake of a classic Agatha Christie tale, and one that could use an "Ayer Cut" of its own. When Schwarzenegger made his acting comeback following his stint in politics, his fans were hoping for a return to form from the action icon. Sadly, none of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies that landed during the 2010s measured up to his heyday, critically or commercially. Projects like The Last Stand or Escape Plan were fun but disposable fare, but fell short of classics like Commando.

Schwarzenegger aimed to reinvent his image with "Sabotage," but the film bombed critically and financially. The movie was intended as a dark, twisted thriller with a shocking ending that was changed due to test audience feedback. Despite a series of box-office flops, Arnie's return to acting still includes new projects and opportunities for reinvention.
Arnold Schwarzeneggers loose adaptation of an Agatha Christie classic was intended to reinvent his screen image - but instead marked the end of an era. Schwarzenegger became one of the biggest movie stars in the world during the 1980s, and went on a winning streak that included The Terminator, Predator, Twins and many more. Inevitably, there came a point where audiences tired of Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies, as effects-heavy blockbusters like Independence Day instead rose in prominence. Always eager to reinvent himself, the star veered into politics instead and was sworn in as the Governor of California...

When IndieWire recently ranked the 25 best films of Alfred Hitchcock, it was probably no surprise to anyone that “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” the director’s sole attempt at a light romantic comedy, didn’t make the cut. Even Hitchcock himself tended to underrate the film, as when he told interviewer François Truffaut that “since I didn’t really understand the type of people who were portrayed in the film, all I did was photograph the scenes as written.” From a filmmaker who regularly dismissed movies he considered uncinematic as mere “photographs of people talking,” this was the ultimate self-directed insult.
Yet even a casual reappraisal of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” newly available in an exquisite Blu-ray special edition from Warner Archive, undermines Hitchcock’s claims about his own movie. While it would be a bridge too far to declare the film a masterpiece on a par with “Psycho” or “Rear Window,...

New York City rap icons Beastie Boys have filed a lawsuit against the parent company of Chili’s Grill & Bar for copyright infringement and violating the rap group’s trademark rights over a commercial for the chain that resembles their iconic 1994 “Sabotage” music video.
The suit, filed against Brinker International in a New York Federal Court on Wednesday, was brought by Michael Diamond (Mike D to fans), Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock, and Dechen Yauch as executor of the estate of the late Adam Yauch (McA), who died of parotid cancer in 2012. The Beastie Boys’ 1994 classic Ill Communication turns 30 this year and as part of the ongoing celebration, the band has partnered with Vevo for a special annotated version of the “Sabotage” video.
The clip — which is part of Vevo’s “Footnotes” series — is packed with facts about the classic Spike Jonze-directed clip, in which McA, Ad-Rock, and Mike D pay homage to Seventies cop shows. According to one of the annotations, Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) had long had the idea for a video where the band dressed up as undercover cops during a stakeout.

Thanks to his blood, sweat, and tears, he has become one of the most influential personalities in the world, which has also brought his family into the spotlight. Foo Fighters kicked off their 2024 tour (get tickets here) on Wednesday, May 1st at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas, and paid tribute to hometown hero Dimebag Darrell during the show. Fittingly, Dave Grohl dedicated “My Hero” to the late Pantera guitarist.
In fan-filmed video (watch below), Grohl starts playing “My Hero” on guitar and addresses the crowd: “This one’s for everybody. Actually, you know what, since we’re here in Dallas, I’m gonna dedicate this one to an old friend. He lived around here. His name is Dimebag Darrell. How ’bout that? We’ll sing it for Darrell.”

David Ayer has been attached to a remake of classic war movie The Dirty Dozen for many years. Ayer's favorite new leading man Jason Statham would be perfect as the new Dirty Dozen team leader. The Dirty Dozen would also be Statham's best replacement for The Expendables.
An upcoming David Ayer remake of a classic war movie would be perfect for Jason Statham and the star's ideal Expendables replacement. It is a bountiful time for Jason Statham action franchises, with the star appearing in hits like Meg 2: The Trench or Fast X. However, The Expendables 4 was a notable box office bomb, with that outing barely recouping half its production budget and receiving disastrous reviews. Statham soon bounced back with David Ayer's The Beekeeper, which has the potential to launch its very own franchise.
The Beekeeper even received broadly positive reviews, with the film being Ayer's best in some time.

Olivia Williams has given acclaimed performances in “Rushmore,” “The Sixth Sense” and “An Education.” She recently appeared as Camilla Parker Bowles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s popular drama series “The Crown.” But for many people, the British actor will always be Felicity from the Season 4 finale of “Friends.” Williams once called guest starring on the NBC sitcom “harrowing,” and she recently opened up to The Independent about the reasons why it wasn’t the best experience in a recent interview.
“Gosh. Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Williams said, noting this actor was “distinguished” and “very good” but “at one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.

Coolio's iconic theme song for Kenan & Kel defines 90s pop culture with catchy beats and nostalgic references. Kenan & Kel's mature humor and Coolio's involvement set it apart from other kids' sitcoms of the time. Coolio's '90s legacy includes memorable TV cameos, with Kenan and Kel recalling his funny appearance on All That.
The Kenan & Kel theme song is a memorable tune thanks to Coolio's beats and how it captures the essence of the '90s. The Nickelodeon sitcom ran for four seasons and starred Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell as the titular characters. A popular comedy about Kenan's attempts to get rich quickly and Kel's inevitable ruination of his plans, the series has remained in the pop culture conversation longer than other similar shows of the time thanks to Kenan's long career on SNL and the revival of the pair's Good Burger series with Good Burger 2.

The WWE Hall of Fame has inducted many personalities who were in the WWE and wrestling industries and beyond. It began in 1993 with André the Giant being its sole inductee, after he passed away a few months earlier. More than 200 inductees have been added to the Hall of Fame since then, with many two-time inductees included as well.
Apart from WWE superstars, the Hall is known to have inducted many celebrities who have supported the promotion as well. “When I blow up, I’m gonna go nuts,” Quentin Branch declares on “Stanley Kubrick,” a track from Angry Blackmen’s The Legend of Abm. The Chicago-based experimental hip-hop duo’s beats are distorted and dissonant, with traces of industrial-rock influence paired with a punk-tinged aggression. This contrast in sounds is mirrored by their vocal styles: Brian Warren offers a melodic touch, rapping in a quick sing-song manner with few pauses, while Branch leans toward more straightforward shouting.
Angry Blackmen’s dedication to this mode of uneasy listening is uncompromising throughout. The album’s production is enveloping, with sharp changes of dynamics and sustained, ominous electronics. “Fna” opens with blown-out 808s, while “Dead Men Tell No Lies” ends on the repeated title phrase, filtered so it barely even sounds like a human voice.

David Ayer has been making action movies for more than 20 years. "Training Day" might still be his most famous credit as a writer, but he also has writing credits on "The Fast and The Furious," "U-571," and "S.W.A.T." and he later wrote and directed films like "End of Watch," "Fury," "Sabotage," and "Suicide Squad" (the latter of which was infamously recut by Warner Bros. before its release). With all of that experience, one might assume he'd be the one imparting advice or doling out nuggets of mastery on the set of his latest action film, "The Beekeeper." But as I learned in a recent interview with the director, Ayer is smart enough to know when to listen -- especially when working with a genre superstar like Jason Statham.
"He schooled me," Ayer told me about his collaboration with Statham on their new movie. "I mean, let's be real: He's an action icon,...

You can add The Beekeeper to the long list of action movies named for the jobs their protagonist took up after laying down their weapons and trying to live a peaceful life: The Gardener, The Painter, The Bricklayer… etc, etc. Actually Adam Clay always was a beekeeper, that was the name of the elite unit he was a part of before he retired to actually raise bees. He does this on a farm owned by Eloise Parker somewhere in a very confused part of England that wants us to believe it’s actually Western Massachusetts.
Eloise, who is supposed to be a retired teacher and should know better, falls for one of those computer scams that says you have a virus and to call this number to have it removed.

From penning Training Day (2001) to helming the one-two punch of End of Watch (2012) and Fury (2014), David Ayer has had the film industry in the palm of his hand on a couple of different occasions.
Following the success of the latter, he then punched his own ticket to the Dceu, opting to write and direct Suicide Squad as a supervillain take on The Dirty Dozen. The film would star the likes of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Will Smith’s Deadshot and Jared Leto’s Joker, but despite one of the most celebrated trailers of all time at 2015’s San Diego Comic-Con, the subsequent poor reception to Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and the adulation for Tim Miller’s irreverent Deadpool (2016) caused Warners to panic and retool Squad on the fly.

As the Joker once said, “Desire becomes surrender. Surrender becomes power.” As it turns out, sometimes power becomes regret, too, as Suicide Squad director David Ayer has expressed just that over one of the Joker’s tattoos. Yeah, that one…
Posting on social media, David Ayer (who had previously helmed Fury and Sabotage by the time he landed Suicide Squad) said he wishes the Joker’s forehead tattoo, which reads Damaged, said something else entirely, as the one we all know – and mostly hate – only split audiences. “I own the tattoo idea 100% It was my choice. Original idea is it would say “Blessed” and not “Damaged” Now having said that — I regret that decision. It created acrimony and division. Not every idea is a good idea. And I’ll just be in the corner here while the internet slaps me around for this post.”

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 3 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) has a car chase in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 3, and the only thing that could have made it better would be incorporating a J.J. Abrams joke from Star Trek 2009. Kirk comes from an alternate reality in "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow," and he and Lieutenant LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) are whisked away to 21st-century Toronto to stop an attack that will irrevocably alter the timeline.
Kirk and LA'an fall for each other during their time travel mission in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. On Sunday, Foo Fighters closed out Bonnaroo with a 19-song set that featured hits, guest appearances, a tribute to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, and some fun covers, including a snippet of Beastie Boys’ 1994 classic, “Sabotage.”
“Fuck, let’s do it — go, Nate, go,” frontman Dave Grohl said onstage in front of the crowd in Manchester, Tennessee, cuing bassist Nate Mendel to kick off the song’s opening riff. As the intro burst into the first verse, Grohl hopped in, doing his best Ad-Rock impersonation.
The band made it a few lines before Grohl pulled the plug, saying “I can’t fucking rap and I don’t know the song, though I love it.” He then told the crowd: “Next year, we’ll come back to Bonnaroo, we’ll play at the fucking ‘Wha-What Stage’ and we’ll do a whole Beastie Boys set, how about that?” Watch a video of the performance below.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to abandon some of his biggest franchises in favor of new projects like Fubar came as a surprise to many long-time fans. Given his iconic status in the action genre, it was always going to be difficult for Schwarzenegger to establish himself in new dramatic territory. As such, distancing himself from some of his most famous roles made sense. Nevertheless, the veteran action star's subtle attempt to move on in his career – however well-intentioned – is inherently flawed, as highlighted by his Netflix hit.
Although he spent much of his heyday being typecast as an acutely accented action all-star, Arnie's later work has seen him branch out into potentially more challenging roles. While recent years have seen him return to franchises like Terminator and The Expendables, Schwarzenegger has also taken on more interesting projects, such as the underrated apocalyptic zombie horror Maggie. Warning: Spoilers For Fubar Season 1 Below!Arnold Schwarzenegger's Netflix series Fubar might be an action comedy, but it saddles the screen icon with some of his lamest setpieces and one-liners. While The Terminator is the movie that made Arnie a star, it could be argued Commando is the one that defined his screen persona. His title character John Matrix shot, punched and hacked his way through dozens of villains, and often had a dry quip or bad pun to go along with it. This mixture of action and comedy made him one of the biggest movie stars in the world and can be found in everything from Total Recall to The Expendables movies.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand might just be his last true '80 action movie. The success of The Terminator set Schwarzenegger on an epic run of action hits, from Commando to Predator and True Lies. For many, Arnie's stardom could only have come about during that decade, when his bodybuilder physique, thick accent and unique charisma made him a movie star unlike any other before him. It helped that Arnie excelled in action roles, and had a way with dry one-liners. His stardom waned somewhat towards the end of the '90s when the likes of Batman & Robin and End Of Days ended up as financial disappointments.
Following the success of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, Schwarzenegger took a surprise detour into politics. He became the Governor of California in 2003 and held the office until 2011. Naturally, that ruled him out of movie roles, outside of brief...

The following article includes discussions of graphic sexual assault.
Horror is all about pushing boundaries. As a means to refract contemporary fears, anxieties, and pressures, the horror genre, almost by design, must resist censoring or constraining the terror on screen. Some of the most iconic horror sequences, such as Janet Leigh's death in "Psycho" and the chestburster in "Alien," were boundary-pushing triumphs. Richly textured and gorgeously composed shocks with purpose, they have endured as hallmarks of the genre.
Of course, horror can go too far. Savagery and gruesome violence can have the opposite effect by blunting the efficacy of any given scare. It's why several filmmakers, such as Damien Leone, director of 2002's indie sensation "Terrifier 2," opted to scrap some material, worried the brutality would hurt rather than elevate. Bebe Rexha transforms into a Seventies pop star in her newest visual. On Friday, the pop star released “Heart What It Wants,” the first single of her upcoming album, alongside a retro-themed music video where Rexha channels the stars of the past.
“‘Heart Wants What It Wants’ is about the time in relationships where you fall out of love with your partner,” Rexha said in a release about the track produced by Ido Zmishlany and co-written with Bonnie McKee. “It’s an anthem about wanting what you want and not being apologetic for it.
