Two of Griselda’s best connected on “Rabies,” a track from Boldy James and Harry Fraud’s aptly named new album The Bricktionary. Both artists are recognized as skilled scribes of R-rated drug epics through song, and their latest collaboration doesn’t disappoint. Harry Fraud laced the two with a soaring guitar-based loop, which they both took off on.
Boldy starts off the track proclaiming, “Holy Christ and Jesus, Latter Day Saints, I caught a half a brickie,” a line that probably won’t be recited at any Catholic Church holiday festivities.

The sight of dogs ravaging war-torn streets has become an all too familiar sight. Sandra Tabet’s debut feature film “Rabies” (Rage) – a development project at the Atlas Workshops – returns to early 1990s in Beirut, in the aftermath of the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990), when rabies began to spread rapidly amongst ravenous dogs, leading to some parts of the city being overrun.
Combining horror genre codes with a real-world setting, “Rabies” follows 60-year-old history teacher Julia, who tries to find a cure for her 30-year-old son Ghassan, who after being bitten by a rabid dog slowly transforms into a violent monster.
Having studied in Beirut and London, Tabet left Beirut in 2021 and moved to France.
With “Rabies” she aims to further her exploration of the horror genre, following her acclaimed shorts, “The Howl” (2017), and “Hell” (2021).

Heaven’s Grate: Keshales Settles for Watered Down Tropes in English Debut
Nearly a decade ago, directors Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado promised to usher in a new dawn of genre-flavored Israeli cinema with their first two offerings, Rabies (2010) and the somewhat controversial Big Bad Wolves (2013). Both have been wooed by English language filmmaking, pursing their own solo projects as director with Papushado unveiling Gunpowder Milkshake and Keshales offering up South of Heaven (which features Papushado as screenwriter alongside Kai Mark). Marrying a clutch of familiar narrative tropes, including the veritable Hitchcockian ‘wrong man’ syndrome and cancer melodrama, ‘nice guys’ may finish last, but they make it to the end credits—-unfortunately, there’s not enough characterization to care by the time we get there.…...

‘Gunpowder Milkshake’ Review: Karen Gillan Kicks Butt in Kitschy, Colorful Netflix Assassin Actioner
Subtlety isn’t on offer in Navot Papushado’s assassin actioner “Gunpowder Milkshake,” though nearly everything else is, from enough neon lights to make Vegas jealous, a nefarious group of bad men known as “The Firm,” to Karen Gillan beating up baddies with a panda-shaped suitcase, blood the consistency of Jell-o, and an extended sequence involving Michelle Yeoh killing dudes with a chain. These aren’t even the highlights, but simply a brief selection of standouts moments from the Netflix Original, which . Featuring Karen Gillan in a genuinely butt-kicking role, Papushado’s film joins a growing sub-genre of all-female action outings, but its winking sense of humor seems primed to help it stand out.
Set in and around a nameless European city — the film was shot mostly in Germany, but there’s something purposely anonymous about the world Sam (Gillan) and her compatriots and antagonizers alike occupy — “Gunpowder Milkshake” opens...

Action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake is putting together an impressive cast, headlined by Guardians of the Galaxy’s Karen Gillan.
Gunpowder Milkshake may sound like an ill-conceived idea for a combustible cold dairy drink, but it’s actually an intriguing action thriller – starring Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji actress Karen Gillan – that’s coming to the table with quite the ensemble for what’s shaping up to be a female-fronted assassin mythos.
Studiocanal and The Picture Company are conjuring the big screen project, which will arrive under the direction of internationally debuting helmers in Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, who achieved acclaim in their native Israel with the 2013 Hebrew-language horror film, Big Bad Wolves, and 2010 horror offering Rabies. The directorial duo wrote the Gunpowder script with Ehud Lavski.

It could be said that there was disappointment when Big Bad Wolves and Rabies directors Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado bowed out of the Death Wish remake. It’s a second go around the alphabet of fear with The ABCs of Death 2. 2012′s first installment – an anthology of 26 stories, each representing a letter of the alphabet – was the very definition of a mixed bag, with (sadly) the bad often outweighing the good. However, given that the good was Very good I still held out hope that this sequel would live up to the expectations and potential that the format has.
Thankfully this time round the good outweighs the bad, although surprisingly there are some disappointing segments from directors whose work I’ve enjoyed; and whose feature work has been hailed as some of the best in the genre – not that there’s any evidence of that here – including...

The Big Bad Wolves boys are coming to Hollywood, word breaking today that Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado - the Israeli duo behind Rabies and Big Bad Wolves - have signed on to direct a remake of Johnnie To's Vengeance. And, honestly, if you're going to remake a Johnnie To film, this is a pretty good one to pick given that the story of a French chef with a past traveling to Hong Kong to exact revenge on the people responsible for the killing of his family has a fantastic premise and flashes of To's signature style while also being severely hampered by a poor central performance from French singer Johnny Hallyday in the lead role. There's room to improve here, basically, where if you...

Exclusive: Navot Papushado and Aharon Keshales have been set by Sony Pictures to write and direct a remake of the 2009 Hong Kong-French thriller Vengeance. Sony Pictures has acquired the underlying material and hired the duo for a film that Matt Tolmach will produce with Michele & Laurent Petin. Latter are the original rights holders and producers.
Papushado & Keshales are Israeli filmmakers whose 2010 debut Rabies was followed by Big Bad Wolves, a revenge tale that Quentin Tarantino called his favorite of 2013. It was acquired and released by Magnolia’s Magnet last January.
The Johnnie To-directed Vengeance is about a French chef who swears revenge after a violent attack on his daughter’s family in Hong Kong, during which her husband and two children are murdered. To help him find the killers, he hires three local hitmen working for the mafia.

Let’s not beat around the proverbial toilet-shaped bush here… the first ABCs of Death is a pretty dire affair. Out of 26 short films there are maybe a Billy Barty-sized handful of good to great ones with the remainder being a mix of lazy, dumb and poorly executed ideas. The announcement of a sequel was met with tepid anticipation because while that first film is unfortunate the idea behind the anthology — 26 directors, each with a letter of the alphabet, a miniscule budget and free reign to create a short relating their chosen word to the idea of death — is still a fantastic one overflowing with potential. Happily, ABCs of Death 2 is a far more entertaining and creatively explicit collection of creepy, fun and wild short films. (Read my full review here.) Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado (Rabies, Big Bad Wolves) came on board with a request for the letter F, and...

Hot on the heels of their ambitious horror anthology The ABCs Of Death, Drafthouse producers Ant Timpson and Tim League decided that the world needed another collection of horror shorts spanning every letter of the alphabet – and adventurous horror fans much like myself rejoiced. The ABCs Of Death 2 was greenlit, the directors were selected, and the inevitable waiting game began.
I tried on numerous occasions to extract as much information as possible from contributing artists – Jerome Sable, Aharon Keshales, Navot Papushado were tight-lipped in our interviews – but it looks like Magnet and Drafthouse are ready to start opening the floodgate of horrors hiding amidst these 26 short stories that are ready to shock, scare, and revolt viewers in ways the original didn’t dare.

★★☆☆☆Quentin Tarantino last year lauded Big Bad Wolves (2013), the second feature from Israeli filmmakers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (following on from their well-received 2010 debut, Rabies), as his favourite film of 2013 and it's easy to see why he embraced it so resoundingly. The directing duo have been schooled in the Hitchcockian, early-De Palma school of sustained tension, and those scenes in the film are punctuated by moments of unsettling, gleefully vicious gore, served with a side of jet black humour. But for all the well- orchestrated, transgressive sparks, there's an inescapable hollowness to Big Bad Wolves that didn't perpetrate their outstanding inaugural offering.

Directing duo Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado returned to London's Film4 FrightFest last year with Big Bad Wolves (2013), their follow-up to the darkly comic Rabies (2011). Once again blurring the lines between horror and political satire, this genre-savvy thriller examines the tenuous dichotomy between good and evil in a case of vengeance. To celebrate the home entertainment release of Big Bad Wolves this coming Monday (28 April), we have Three DVD copies of the Israeli revenge thriller to give away to our bloodthirsty readers, courtesy of the film's UK distributors Metrodome. This week on Sordid Cinema, Elijah Wood stars as a celebrated pianist who, five years after a notorious fiasco of a performance, is making a nervous, much-hyped return to the stage in Eugenio Mira’s Hitchcock inspired thriller, The Grand Piano. Afterwards, we discuss Almost Human by first time writer/director Joe Begos. This gory sci-fi / horror hybrid, made for just $50,000, is a throwback to the exploitation midnight movies, maniac massacres, sci-fi films and graphic horror flicks of the 80′s. Finally we also take a look back at the Big Bad Wolves, written and directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. This brutal, unrelenting Israeli thriller from the filmmaking team behind 2010′s Rabies was named Quentin Tarantino’s favourite film of 2013. We’ll let you know what we think of it. All this and more!

I know what you’re thinking, not another Israeli slasher movie? Directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, Rabies has nothing to do with foaming at the mouth and going insane but it does have a dog. So that’s ok. It’s not really a slasher movie either but we’ll let that go for now. If they want to bill it as the first Israeli slasher movie that’s fine, but for me Rabies is a genre defying comedy with a little murder thrown in for good measure. A brother and sister run away from home to find sanctuary in a deserted nature reserve, complete with psychopathic killers, land mines and bear traps. Somebody really needs to read up on the word ‘sanctuary’. When the sister falls into a trap the brother sets out on a race against time to save her. Their story gets interesting – and all...

Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado made quite a splash at FrightFest a few years back with Rabies, the first Isreali horror film which made a little bit of history by being so popular that a third screening was arranged for it. I was in the audience for the film myself that year but on a day where I was possibly the most drunk I have ever been in my life, I unfortunately did myself a disservice and can’t recall all that much about it. Having some karma to re-balance, I took to Big Bad Wolves in the most positive frame of mind I could, buoyed by the fact that Quentin Tarantino had praised it as the best film of 2013 and that...
