The official remake of the 2011 Belgian film Hasta La Vista, Herwin Novianto’s Why Do You Love Me, takes the story to Indonesia and has a perfect cast for this heartwarming film, which may seem like it was made to titillate but in fact speaks about a deeper topic of ableism and expressing one’s sexuality. The story revolves around three friends in their early twenties, one of whom has a brain tumor, and they wish to visit a red-light area where the trio could pop their cherries and live life to the fullest. The movie feels like a breath of fresh air, and under the guise of being a raunchy comedy, it comes up with something truly surprising. The background score and the performances make this a decent remake with its own flavor and message at the end.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger first announced his new TV series Fubar, he sold it as “another big action-comedy like True Lies.” There’s just one problem with that statement: True Lies was actually good. Fubar (now streaming on Netflix) tries to recapture Arnie’s glory days as an action movie hero with a big-budget, explosion-filled tale of international espionage. But based on the first three episodes, Fubar is unfortunately just a very pale True Lies imitation: a parade of meaningless violence and flaccid one-liners that pairs ludicrous action scenes with hacky comedy. It’s a mess — and not even an entertaining one,...

Years ago, we covered Hasta La Vista, a Belgian comedy that was full of charm, in a story based on the real life experiences of Asta Philpot. Now, a decade later, comes an American remake entitled Come As You Are – and to mark the occasion we spoke to the film’s leading star, and producer, Grant Rosenmeyer.
Discussing the film on Zoom (a shame as it feels like Grant would make for a fun in-person interview), we speak about his involvement in the project and how he became aware of the story and original movie. He comments on working so closely with Asta during this process, and what he’s taken away from producing for the very first time.
Rosenmeyer also speaks about the positive response the film has received from the disabled community, while he also speaks about the tumultuous socio-political landscape of the US at present, and how...

With the 2020 summer Olympics around the corner, the timing of the release of the IFC Films romantic comedy Olympic Dreams couldn’t be any more perfect — but this isn’t an ordinary rom-com or a film about the Olympics.
Directed by Jeremy Teicher, who co-wrote it with his wife and real-life Olympian Alexi Pappas and Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), the film was actually shot on location during the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang 2018 in Athletes Village. This marks the first time a feature was shot at a the Olympics. To add to that, the film was shot using improvisation of the script in just two weeks.
“Olympic Dreams is IFC Films to its core,” Arianna Bocco, Evp, Film Acquisitions & Production, tells Deadline. “It’s original, independent filmmaking.”

Franklin Leonard used the prominent stage of the Wall Street Journal’s Tech D.Live conference to announce he’s raising a film fund to produce some of the exceptional screenplays submitted to The Black List.
The Black List’s annual survey of Hollywood executives’ favorite unproduced screenplays has a proven track record for finding compelling stories. Black List movies have won 53 Academy Awards and garnered 262 nominations, including four of the last 10 Best Picture Oscars.
Leonard said the mid-eight figure fund would enable The Black List to get more of the scripts it champions onto the big screen.
“I’ve always said the North Star of the blacklist is identifying and celebrating great screenwriting. The best way to celebrate great screenwriting is to get it made,” Leonard said in a conversation with Deadline. “We’d love to be in a position to bring financial resources to support the making of these movies.
