Chicago – Jenny Slate keeps getting more high profile, both in voiceover work (“The Secret Life of Pets”) and as an actress. Her latest film is “Landline,” her second with director Gillian Robespierre. In the film, Slate portrays an engaged-to-be-married “adult” who is having trouble coming to terms with her life.
“Landline” is set in 1990s New York City, just before the tech/mobile phone boom and the loss of grit in the Big Apple. Based on the growing-up experiences of Gillian Robespierre and co-writer Elisabeth Holm, the story is about transitions… Slate’s character to adulthood, the last days of being a teenager for her sister Ali (Abby Quinn) and the dissolution of their parent’s marriage (as portrayed by Edie Falco and John Turturro). It has a bit of a “slamming doors” edge to it, as misunderstandings and family connections blend into a very human story. Slate and Robespierre...

Jenny Slate, 35, is an American comedian, actor and author. The middle of three sisters, with a ceramicist mother and poet father, she was raised in Milton, Massachusetts. While at Columbia University, Slate performed standup and improv. Moving to Los Angeles with then-husband, director Dean Fleischer-Camp (they’ve since amicably divorced), Slate joined Saturday Night Live in 2009, but accidentally swore in her first episode and was fired after one season. A stop-motion short animation made with Fleischer-Camp, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, became a viral hit, leading to New York Times bestseller children’s books and plans for a feature-length movie.

Jenny Slate is an actress and a writer, so it makes sense that she cares about getting her point across effectively. When E! News' Marc Malkin sat down with her to talk about her new movie, Gifted, she used hand gestures. Seriously, it was hard to press on, so cute were her various gesticulations. But we still gleaned some key facts from Slate, whose inimitable voice—which you know from Bob's Burgers, Zootopia, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On and much more—provided a perfect foil for our E!Q in 42. After a string of comedic roles in Girls, Parks and Recreation, House of Lies and so on, next up she takes a dramatic turn in Gifted, about a...

Rough House Pictures, the joint venture between David Gordon Green, Jody Hill and Danny McBride, announced today that they have signed on as executive producers of the new documentary “Fraud,” ahead of its Los Angeles premiere at the AFI Festival next week. Written and directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp (“Marcel the Shell with Shoes On”), the film features a family’s home movies that document a crime spree and the bid to outrun the consequences. Born from a series of innocuous YouTube videos, “Fraud” reveals one family’s struggle for the American Dream and the types of stories we tell online.

Since the breakout success of “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” filmmaker Dean Fleischer-Camp has become one of the most original online filmmakers working today. His latest project, “David,” released this month on Super Deluxe, is a dark comedy about a man who learns he only has five weeks to live.
“David” stars Nathan Fielder (“Nathan For You”) as the title character, and Jenny Slate (“Obvious Child”) as his ex-wife. On the surface, this star power is wasted behind the robotic inflections and blank stares that create the eerie tone in “David,” but creating such an idiosyncratic world is no easy task. It takes precision and clarity of vision to fully realize and sustain a unique aesthetic.

In an interview with Filmmaker Magazine, Dean Fleischer-Camp described the tone of his 2014 web series “Catherine” as “The New Banality.” With “David,” he adds yet another gem to his self-described banal canon.
The five-episode series premiered yesterday on Super Deluxe and stars Nathan Fielder (“Nathan For You”) as David, a recently-fired divorcee, as we learn from an uncannily accurate Tarot reader (Sally Berman). David’s vacantly concerned psychic tells him that he has a “black stone, like a rock, growing every minute” in his chest. If he doesn’t get rid of it, his body will de-compose in five weeks — hence the five episodes.

Jenny Slate isn’t exactly a newcomer, but she’s entered that period of her career where people are recognizing her on the street — even if they can’t quite put their finger on where they’ve seen her before. But it’s hard to blame them, because Slate is everywhere these days.
“It’s a bunch of Marcel the Shell and Mona-Lisa [Saperstein],” Slate said when IndieWire recently asked her what roles she’s most often recognized for. “I find that in New York, and especially in Brooklyn, it’s a lot of ‘Obvious Child’ people, which is really nice. A lot of people think that I’m one of the women from ‘Broad City’ — and I’m just not.”
And sometimes it just gets weird. “I also just get confused with people from their Jewish summer camp or synagogue,” she said, and laughed. “They’re always like ‘I...

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On has a song to share in the latest video from Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp. It's "A Perfect Day" and Marcel learned it at camp. "I sing it because my best friend lives far away," Marcel explains. Marcel also reveals the truth about shrimp ("They're the idiots of the sea"), where he puts deodorant ("in between my shell and my shoe"), and his favorite saying ("Life's a party, rock your body"). He also shows how he unwinds and how he contends with allergies. It's all, obviously, adorable. Marcel's new video comes a day ahead...

Jenny Slate and her husband, Dean Fleischer-Camp, have graced the world with a third installment of Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, and it's absolutely hysterical. This time, Marcel laments his plant allergy, takes a dig at shrimp - "the idiots of the sea" - and reveals the "hot zone" where he needs to apply deodorant. It's the latest in a series of big moments for the character, who's voiced by Jenny. The book Marcel the Shell: The Most Surprised I've Ever Been by Jenny and Dean comes out this week, and last week, Jenny talked about the origin of Marcel with David Letterman, singing a silly song as Marcel. Watch the new video above and then check out the first two videos from 2010 and 2011 below!

After just one season on Saturday Night Live, Jenny Slate was cut loose. But it turns out that stepping away from the big fat sketch show was a great career move, whether or not it was by choice. Since then, Slate has been popping up on a slew of comedy shows, from Bored to Death, Hello Ladies and Girls to Parks and Recreation, Bob's Burgers, Married and Kroll Show. But the small screen is not the only place she's thriving. Studios are tapping this sharp comedy mind for screenplays, including the Looney Tunes. With Jenny Slate's buzzed-about comedy feature Obvious Child coming out on DVD and Blu-ray, she sat down with Yahoo Movies. Amid talk of this daring rom-com and Slate's viral vids "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On," they discussed her attempt at penning a Looney Tunes movie for Warner Bros. Mind you, it's a movie Slate believes...

Brooks Wheelan, we hardly knew ye… and now we may never get the chance to. The blue-eyed comedian revealed Monday night that he won’t be returning for a second year at Saturday Night Live this fall—and that the decision wasn’t his to make. In a fairly delightful tweet, Wheelan said that he’d been let go. (His exact words: “Fired from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” Which is funny enough to make me wish things hadn’t ended this way.)
Clearly, getting canned from television’s most august comedy institution must be a bit of a bummer.

Jenny Slate, the former Saturday Night Live star and creator of popular video, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, is having a breakout moment. As stand-up comedian Donna Stern in Obvious Child, Slate’s character bounces back from heartache the way every modern woman does: by meeting a nice, young gentleman at a bar. What comes next is worth the ticket price — and the subject of a recent censorship debate — but her initial contact with Max (Jake Lacy) proves just how fruitful even the silliest of drunken conversations can be.
But what if you’re not the star of a well-received Sundance hit? Does your tipsy banter give you the same shot at lifelong happiness? Yes, you, too can find love at your local watering hole. Just follow Jenny’s advice on how to execute a proper pick up line, especially if you plan on hitting on someone like Ryan Gosling.

Chicago – An authentic voice in the film category of “romantic comedy” has emerged, and it is represented by lead actress Jenny Slate (“Saturday Night Live”) and writer/director Gillian Robespierre. One night stands, its consequences and yes, love is explored in the excellent new rom-com “Obvious Child.”
The genesis of “Obvious Child” came from a short film version in 2009, co-written and directed by Robespierre and featuring Slate. The feature length film is a clear-eyed exploration of a wacky stand-up comic (Slate), as she navigates her own relationship destiny – which includes a visit to the abortion clinic – after an errant and totally plausible one night stand. How the Robespierre/Slate team approach the material is totally charming and honest, which softens any debate and makes it mostly a funny and warm time-of-life story.

Even if you aren’t familiar with comedienne Jenny Slate, I think Obvious Child will win you over. Slate has built a considerable following during the past few years, on television (Saturday Night Live, Parks and Recreation, House of Lies, Bob’s Burgers) and online (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On). This feature gives her a chance to build a rounded and likable character, and the film’s success rests on her shoulders.Expanding on their 2009 short subject of the same name, she and writer-director Gillian Robespierre give us a small-scale but winning comedy about a neurotic Brooklyn stand-up comic who finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand with a nice guy (Jake Lacy) she’s only...

In the indie flick Obvious Child, Jenny Slate plays Donna, a Brooklyn-based standup comic who is unexpectedly dumped by her long-time boyfriend (Paul Briganti). What’s a sad twenty-something to do? Head to the bar to pound beers with a bestie (the Saturday Night Live alum’s real-life best friend Gabe Liedman) and end up in the arms of a sweet stranger (The Office regular Jake Lacy) in a one-night stand, obviously.

If you aren't already familiar with Jenny Slate from her brief stint on "Saturday Night Live" (she's the one who made headlines for saying the f-word during her first live taping of the show), you probably know her as the voice behind the title character in "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On," the stop-motion short she made with her husband Dean Fleischer-Camp that became a viral smash and screened at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. She has also appeared on TV in "Parks and Recreation" and "Girls." In Gillian Robespierre's comedy "Obvious Child" (based on an original 20-minute short also starring Slate), which was acquired by A24 shortly following its Sundance world premiere earlier this year, Slate proves she can carry a project solo. Jenny Slate displays an unusually high tolerance for embarrassment. During an outdoor film screening in Brooklyn on a recent Saturday night, the actress smiles calmly, seated among an audience watching her run a gauntlet of debasement on a big screen. She's pictured being brutally dumped, drinking her sorrows away in pajamas, dancing drunk and half-naked during a one-night stand, joking that her underwear looks like it crawled out of a tub of cream cheese, getting sloppy and humiliating herself onstage, taking a pregnancy test, fielding parental disdain, getting laid off,...

"Obvious Child" was one of the coolest movies at SXSW this year. Moviefone's Drew Taylor called it "one of the more unexpectedly moving experiences of the entire festival," and that's for real.
Jenny Slate stars as Donna, a comedian in Brooklyn with a slacker day job and a dismal love life. After a seriously brutal dumping, she hooks up with a straight-laced dude named Max (Jake Lacy) and has a one-night stand that leads to a very unromantic Valentine's Day trip to the women's clinic. Gaby Hoffman co-stars as her roommate Nellie, and Richard Kind and Polly Draper play Donna's divorced parents.
If you love Jenny Slate from her time on "Saturday Night Live," or the co-writer and voice of "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On," or her hilarious appearances on "Parks and Rec" or "Kroll Show" ("pubLIZity"!), you'll be wonderfully surprised by her performance... and then love her even more!

Dean Fleischer Camp and Jenny Slate — the 2011 25 New Faces who created the delightful Marcel the Shell with Shoes On — have a new web series, a 12-part “comedy of sincerity” called Catherine. The Kroll Show, which premiered two weeks ago on Comedy Central and was just renewed for a second season, was a long time coming for Nick Kroll. He has been doing stand-up and sketch, starring on The League, guest-starring on shows like Community and Parks and Recreation, and being a generally hilarious person for more than a decade now. That's not all, folks. According to THR, actress and comedian Jenny Slate has been hired to write a new "Looney Tunes" movie for Warner Bros. The untitled film would be the first "Looney Tunes" feature since 2003's "Looney Tunes: Back in Action." That film, which mixed live action and animation, grossed $68 million worldwide, but only $20 million in North America.
Slate is tasked with rebooting the franchise, with the idea that the new film would also mix live-action stars and animated characters, something that has become more popular in recent years thanks to the successes of "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "The Smurfs."
David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are set to produce, along with David Heyman, one of the driving forces behind the "Harry Potter" franchise.
Slate, who recently married filmmaker Dean Fleischer-Camp, was excited about the "Looney Tunes" news, writing on Twitter that she "luvs" rabbits. The actress -- who...

Fox is attempting to dominate Tuesday nights this fall, lining up two hours of comedy with established hits like "New Girl" and "Raising Hope" paired with freshman series "The Mindy Project" and "Ben and Kate."
Over the weekend, cast members from all four shows -- Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield of "New Girl," Martha Plimpton and Garret Dillahunt of "Raising Hope," Nat Faxon and Dakota Johnson of "Ben and Kate," and Mindy Kaling and Chris Messina of "The Mindy Project" -- took part in a Q&A and pilot screening event to promote their new Tuesday night foursome; an ambitious endeavor that was simulcast to movie theaters in a number of major U.S. cities and livestreamed on Fox's website and EW.com.
Questions came courtesy of fans at the theater in Santa Monica where the event was being held, as well as those attending screenings in 10 other cities, plus via Facebook and Twitter.

Here’s a new installment of Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, the ultra-adorable web video (and now children’s book) from Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp. The first video was already so internet-defyingly likable and funny, it proved that us cynical/awful internet humans could actually love something that isn’t a local news reporter accidentally swearing then getting hit in the face with wampug, and the sequel is equally great. In conclusion, caterpillar bus:...

In the newest edition of their web series, Bestie By Bestie, Bff’s Gabe Liedman (he of our own Big Morning Buzz Live) and Jenny Slate (she of Marcel The Shell With Shoes On) take some time to reflect on things they would have done differently had they time machines. Gabe makes a really good point about wearing open-toed shoes and Jenny might offend you since she connects the tragic events of 9/11 with, er, her ladybusiness. But it’s a good point: sometimes, we all make mistakes, be it with your feet or your vagina, but we can’t change the past. We can only look forward and wear boat shoes and not have mistake-sex.
