Four years ago, Danger 5 screened at Fantastic Fest to a welcome response. In 2014, Wastelander Panda was met with similar acclaim. Now, a similarly entertaining and fairly wacky television show arrives, this time from Housebound writer/director Gerard Johnstone no less. We’d like to introduce Terry Teo.
Whether you’re familiar with book series that inspired this (and the popular ’80s children’s television series it spawned) is irrelevant. In less than 60 seconds, we learn a whole lot about Terry, the teenage cat burglar, as soon as he opens his mouth. After entering a property that is clearly not his dwelling, Terry takes off his shoes and proclaims, “I know I’m robbing the place, but that’s no reason to be disrespectful.” And so begins the trials of a self-aware, witty and, at times, fourth wall breaking New Zealander with a skateboard and a heart of gold.

You've heard of Breaking Bad, Orange Is The New Black & House Of Cards, what about Danger 5, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Darknet and more?…

What though, about some of the lesser-known series available on the UK streaming site?
Sweeping past the well-publicised riches of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Arrested Development, Community and the like, we've ventured into the slightly dustier shelf of TV shows available on Netflix UK that may be lesser-known or less widely celebrated than the big hitters out there, but are still richly deserving of your time. Some are new, some are old, some were cancelled long ago, some are ongoing, several are from outside the UK and Us.

Netflix has just released their lists of what films and TV shows we will see added in February…and what films and TV shows will vanish.
First, the good news: quite a few classic and popular TV shows are making the grade on the streaming service, including the first five seasons of Mash, Hawaii 5-0, and the new season of House of Cards. New additions to the film list include RoboCop, The Brothers Bloom, and Gimme Shelter. While there’s not a lot of quality stuff on offer, there are at least a few new films and TV shows that we can enjoy on the Netflix streaming service.
Now for the bad news: quite a number of favorites are going to vanish from Netflix come February 1. Among these are several James Bond films, Zodiac, Jane Eyre, and Dredd. The TV shows fare even worse, with tons of BBC shows expiring,...

- The Scorecard Review
Two days into Fantastic Fest and it already feels like Day Five -- daily downpours, full parking and an overflowing lobby can't deter the spirit of the 1,650 attendees at this year's jam-packed film festival. The theme song that comes to mind is Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." My mantra of "it's a marathon, not a sprint" has already been replaced with the festival motto "Chaos reigns," as I've managed to fit in five films, three red carpets, two parties and two late nights in just the first two days. Let's not even discuss how much I've already spent on alcohol at The Highball.
ABCs of Death 2 was one of the opening-night films, bringing together 26 directors from around the world. The filmmakers were sworn to secrecy about which letters they were assigned until the premiere of this ambititous anthology produced by Tim League and Ant Timpson. You can see...

You can't go back in time without cheese. Danger 5 know this all too well as they continue their bonkers mission to kill Hitler, only this time it's personal! The trailer from Dinosaur has hit, promising the most insane two minutes you'll spend with the Führer. Season 2 seems likely to top the madness and laughs that season one so gleefully provided and the change-up in scope and episode structure shows that Dinosaur are going to bring up something very special indeed.Danger 5 Season 2 will be shown in its entirety at Fantastic Fest and premieres in Australia on Sbs One soon.Review of season one is here.Check out my review with the creators from season one here.Check the glorious trailer after the jump....

We’re nearing September, which means we’re getting close to Alamo Drafthouse’s 10th annual Fantastic Fest. The film festival held in Austin, Texas is one of the most interesting and exciting fests around. Catering to hardcore cinephiles with a little bit of an interest in the strange, Fantastic Fest features a bevy of some of the best new horror films, indie thrillers, dark comedies, and low-budget sci-fi. Last year some of the best films included at the fest were Afflicted, Borgman, Jodorowsky’s Dune, The Sacrament, Blue Ruin, Grand Piano, We Are What We Are, A Field in England, The Congress, and Big Bad Wolves. In 2011 Fantastic Fest was one of the places to see Adam Wingard’s amazing You’re Next before it was shelved until it’s official release just last year.
Now the initial lineup for the 2014 festival has been announced and as always it looks very promising.

Our favorite film festival in the world is nigh. Later next month, Austin, Texas will host hundreds of genre fans for Fantastic Fest 2014!! We have the full list which includes the Us Premiere of Tusk as well as the World Premieres of ABCs of Death 2 and Horsehead. These won’t be all the films that will play the 10th anniversary of the film festival but it would be enough if it was. Look forward to more announcement waves of programming and don’t forget to follow up with our predictions that we made last week. I have added trailers above the film titles, if available. If the trailer is not available, there will be a still above the title.

It's that time of year again, isn't it? There is no greater party on Earth for fans of genre films than Austin's annual Fantastic Fest, and ten years in, they just keep making it better. "In 2014, we are taking no prisoners. This festival is going to set new boundaries of decadence, destruction and debauchery." - Tim League As much as I love events like Cannes, Sundance, or Toronto, I can't imagine the directors of those festivals ever issuing that statement. The scary thing is that Tim League isn't kidding. Fantastic Fest is special because it's much more than just movies being screened. Every day is packed with events that elevate the entire festival, and with this year taking place at the new Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar, complete with the brand-new Highball, it feels like it's going to be a blow-out the likes of which even the most avid Fantastic...

The Alamo Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest has a stellar rep around these parts, and it’s not hard to see why when you consider some of the indie titles that have played there in recent years. Last year alone saw Coherence, Grand Piano and Septic Man make their world premieres, and films like Blue Ruin, Afflicted, Witching & Bitching, The Sacrament and Borgman all land in the U.S. for the first time.
This year doesn’t look to be any different, with a terrific lineup of indie titles including boatloads of promising horror. We’ve got sequels like The ABCs of Death 2 and V/H/S Viral, and originals like Kevin Smith’s anticipated Tusk and The Babadook. Keep in mind this is only the first wave of film announcements for Fantastic Fest 2014 – we’ll keep you posted as more titles are confirmed for the festival, which runs in Austin,...

Guys, seriously…
Please explain Big Brother to me.
I’ve been writing for this site for the past 10 years or so, and every summer, like clockwork (or fish flies, or a punctual and virulent strain of televised herpes), this show returns.
I don’t understand it. I mean, I get the basics: a bunch of people are trapped in a house and they have to do things that the house tells them to do, and if they don’t they at least have to have awkward night-vision sex or else the house spits them out like a spray-tanned watermelon seed. The one time I watched, there was a lot of talk of “strategy” and “the game”. I play games. I’m great at Settlers of Catan. I once took down an entire apartmentful of powernerds after 4 tense hours of the Battlestar Galactica game (I was the secret Cylon, and I...

The Australian time travel rom-com The Infinite Man will have its World Premiere at SXSW next month in Austin, Texas. It marks the feature film debut of Hugh Sullivan, who also wrote the flick. The film was produced by Kate Croser, who served in the same capacity for the cult television series Danger 5, though the projects appear to share very little in common. The first trailer has been released and you can watch it below. The Infinite Man is a time travel comedy-romance about Dean (Josh McConville), a man whose attempts to construct the perfect romantic weekend backfire when he traps his lover Lana (Hannah Marshall) in an infinite loop....

Several producers who have had the common experience of finding it hard to negotiate deals with increasingly risk-averse Australian distributors have taken the bold step of launching their own distribution company.
The partners in Infinite Releasing are Hedone Productions. Kate Croser and Sandy Cameron, and Jonathan Page, the executive producer of The Babadook, 100 Bloody Acres and Mary and Max.
Their first release will be Hedone.s The Infinite Man, a time-travel comedy-romance from first-time writer-director Hugh Sullivan, starring Josh McConville, Hannah Marshall and Alex Dimitriades.
Croser tells If they have been approached by five or six other producers who are interested in routing their films via Infinite Releasing. She says Page will use his contacts to negotiate home entertainment, free-tv and pay-tv deals for The Infinite Man.
The arrangement with Infinite Releasing means the production qualifies for the 40% producer offset, a vital element of the financing. The project was developed...

What fresh hell is this? As fans of cult Australian television series Danger 5 are already well aware the first season ended with the titular group of heroes failing (once again) to kill Hitler and now we know where the diminutive dictator has gotten himself. With series two now in production a new behind the scenes photograph has turned up over on the show's official Facebook page and having failed to conquer Europe - and the world - it appears that the Fuhrer has set his sights on conquering high school, letter jackets and all. I'm sure it's all just part of a larger ploy, though. We'll be keeping a close eye on things but in the meanwhile check out the trailer for season one below....

Typifying a growing buoyancy and sense of optimism about filmmaking in South Australia, producers Julie Byrne, Kristian Moliere and Jennifer Jones have formed Triptych Pictures.
The troika has just delivered its first factual entertainment series for the ABC, Jillaroo School, and shooting wraps today on its first feature, Touch.
Jillaroo School (6 x 30.) follows the journeys of the women who undergo a course to train as jillaroos under the tutelage of experienced horse master Bill Willoughby.
Writer-director Christopher Houghton.s Touch is a thriller about a mother and daughter who are on the run, hiding in a remote hills town, starring Leeanna Walsman, Matt Day, Greg Hatton and 12-year-old tyro Onor Nottle.
.It.s very hard to be a solo producer or even a duo,. Byrne tells If. .With three you have a critical mass and each brings different ideas. We are all drama-oriented and we want to get into TV series drama.

One of the greatest TV shows to premiere in 2012 was Danger 5. A madcap pastiche of spy tropes, ridiculous costumes and elaborate plywood sets, Danger 5 asks what if World War II happened during the swinging 1960s, and a crack team of international secret agents was formed by a blazer-wearing Colonel with an eagle's head, and given a weekly mission to hunt down and kill Adolf Hitler? Danger 5 creators Dario Russo and David Ashby then answer this question with aplomb. While it was made for Australian TV, viewers around the world have been trying to watch this show all year. Now comes news that Danger 5 is finally available to watch in the Us via Hulu.Today we've heard the sad news that Thunderbirds creator...

All right, let's get straight to the biscuits: World War Two. The Nazis are making their mark on Europe. Adolf Hitler wants to take the world. And keep it. All for himself. Hitler's days are numbered because Danger 5 are on the case, scouring the furthest corners of the globe to unravel Hitler's most sinister plans... Danger 5 is an Australian television series that premiered on the Sbs One network in February, 2012. It's a weirdly hilarious, uchronic pastiche that seamlessly blends the stylized pulp of 1960s action serials (Star Trek, The Thunderbirds) with the kind of alternate-reality, absurd yet historically-inflected humor put forward to great effect in the web series Yacht Rock (except instead of the tyrannical John Oates, Danger 5 employs Adolf Hitler)....

Another Fantastic Fest has come to a close. It's been a grueling week of madness, movies and mayhem...and I can't wait to do it again next year.
As I've written before, the main problem with film fests is you can never see everything you want. But that's okay because you end up being exposed to things you didn't know about — and that's usually a good thing. I missed plenty, but Kayley Viteo and I did see a lot of films at FF2012 and we've reviewed our favorites already (to find them, just plug "Fantastic Fest" into the search box). I know Kayley has some more reviews coming, but I'm going to take this opportunity to touch on some of the rest of the many things I saw this year.

Fantastic Fest is over but that doesn’t mean we should stop promoting the incredible line-up of movies programmed. It has become a Sound on Sight tradition that once the event has finished, we post a festival wrap-up highlighting our favourite films. Here are the top three picks from four of our writers. You can check out all our review here.

Ty Landis:
Holy Motors
There’s hardly anything to compare the film with, as it co-exists as both a “down the rabbit hole” experiment and a seething condemning of the current state of film. The film is shaped in such a way where attempting to reduce it to one meaning or idea would be rightfully foolish. It casually inhabits a realm of odd-ball richness rarely seen or demonstrated in contemporary cinema. In some respects, Holy Motors has the feel and temperament of a swan song for the director, producing...

The world premiere of FilmDistrict’s Red Dawn reboot will close The Austin-based genre fest today. Well, if you didn’t already hear, Lithuanian sci-fi romantic thriller Vanishing Waves was the big winner by picking up four awards including Best Feature, Best Director (Kristina Buozyte), Best Screenplay (Bruno Samper, Buozyte), and Best Actress (Jurga Jutaite).
Have you ever dreamed of being inside the head of another person – a beloved one or your rival ? Have you ever wished to experience the ideal relationship, where two minds come into total fusion? “Vanishing waves” – a sci-fi melodrama. Following solid scientific experiment, based on the neural transfer, a young inhibited man will live an astonishing journey in the comatose woman anonymous mind. This contemporary tale is exploring the nature of desire by exposing links and contradictions between the human body and the mind.

Fantastic Fest is almost at its end, which means it’s of course time for the one and only Fantastic Awards!
Now I could waste your time for a few paragraphs on the apparent ridiculousness of holding an Award Ceremony at the half-way point of a festival, but instead I’m going to save my tirades for more important matters, and just assume that Festival Organizers worldwide know what they’re doing. What I Will give you though is a list of this years Award Winners!
As you look through the list of winners, you may want to take note of a few key films and add them to your “To Screen” list. One of them is Adrian Garcia Bogliano’s homage to 70’s horror film’s Here Comes The Devil, which became the first film in Fantastic Fest history to completely Sweep the Horror Features...

Danger 5
Directed by Dario Russo
Created by Dario Russo and David Ashby
2012, Australia
In Danger 5 an elite force of international specialist stop at nothing to thwart Hitler’s insidious schemes in this bizarro alternate reality comedy series created by Dario Russo and David Ashby. As with their bogus obscure 60′s euro-spiderman ripoff Italian Spiderman, Russo and Ashby go to great lengths to recreate the look and feel of pulp TV for Danger 5, but where the former played it so straight one might think you were watching the real deal – Danger 5 clearly aims for the absurd. The show which is produced for Australian TV bears more than a passing resemblance to another great action adventure series Thunderbirds (as well as subsequent parodies The Golords and Team America). My hunch is that the homage is intended.
