The film consists of a series of different people talking about how they have contributed to the war effort. These include a motor mechanic who now builds airplanes and is a member of the Volunteer Defense Force; an engineer from a cosmetics factory, who now runs a factory that contributes through taxes to the war effort; a farmer who saw the importance of growing food for the war effort and the contribution of women as members of the ground army; a former milkman who now builds roads and airports and his daughter Gwennie who works in an munitions factory; Gwennie's boyfriend, Bill, who served in the merchant navy; RAAF and RAF pilots in New Guinea prior to their mission; RAAF and RAF mechanics are concerned about pilot safety; also spoke to an American mechanic "Brooklyn" remembering the Darwin bombing; an Australian and American soldier cut off in the steamy jungles of New Guinea - with Australia recalling a service tour of Tobruk, Crete, Greece and the Malayan campaign; he praised British allies India and New Zealand; with the Australian talking about his brother being a prisoner of war in Malaya, with the American brother a prisoner of war in Bataan; and finally the narrator talks about Peter Lalor of the Eureka Rebellion and the promises made in the Eureka Stockade.

The Factory Manager: Disaster put us where we are. The disaster of Dunkirk, when Britain stood like one small unyielding rock in a wild ocean. The rest of the world thought Britain was licked. We knew she'd only just started to fight. We knew it, because we're British too! Dunkirk week. The week Australians stormed the recruiting offices. The week industrial production commenced its leap upward. The week we stripped ourselves of arms and started to send the old lady all we had, and wished to God we could make it a hundred times more. It's a funny thing, that. We're a free, completely independent people, with no ties to England at all, save those of blood. But they happen to be the strongest ties in the world.
