Two forces to be reckoned with have teamed up to bring us our first look at "It's Hell Getting Old," a horror short from director Patrick Rea that will be part of Blanc/Biehn Productions' new elevator-set anthology Hellevator Man.
Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.
The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication. The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.
In addition to a few behind-the-scenes photos from "It's Hell Getting Old," we also have the kick-off announcement for Bbp's Mindless, a mind-bending thriller that marks...

Mischa Barton is to star in upcoming movie Fast Life.
The 27-year-old actress will play an 'unimpressed young woman' in the Rock Jacobs picture, according to Variety.
Filming for the movie is expected to start this summer in La.

Recently, I had the esteemed opportunity to chat with writer-director Matt Orlando, who has successfully shepherded his first feature film to the big screen. That would be A Resurrection, which follows a troubled teen, his psychologist, and the tangled web his school becomes embroiled in. The suspense-horror film stars Mischa Barton, J. This August will mark 10 years since the teen drama "The O.C." premiered and catapulted Mischa Barton to fame and tabloid fodder.
In the mid-2000s, Barton dominated the pages of the tabloids alongside Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, but she has faded out of the spotlight in recent years -- something she's quite happy about. In a rare interview with the Daily Beast, the British-born actress, who doesn't even have a personal publicist anymore, says she's happy to have a more-private life these days.
“Luckily, [I’m not] so much in the spotlight,” Barton told the website. “The craziness of The O.C. has died down and gone away. I’m so relieved it’s not how it was. It’s not the person. It was the time. Everything was an ‘it’ girl this or “it” girl that. It was just over the top.”

Considering he started off his career in the genre world, it's certainly fitting that now Jamie Kennedy is producing horror movies, including Matt Orlando's A Resurrection, which arrived in limited theaters this weekend.
Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Orlando, A Resurrection stars Mischa Barton, Devon Sawa, J. A Resurrection began its limited theatrical release today and we recently had a chance to talk with writer/director Matt Orlando. Continue reading to learn about his experience as a first-time director and what projects he’s working on next:
Why was A Resurrection the project you wanted to move forward as both a writer and director?
Matt Orlando: I don’t know exactly where the idea came from. I always have a lot of ideas swimming around my head. I write a lot, and this story took hold and evolved into what it became. I liked the different themes and it really struck a chord with me.
With this being your first feature film as a director, was it difficult to get backing for this project?
Matt Orlando: I got way more than I wanted. When I wrote it, I never thought I’d get the cast and budget that I did.

A Resurrection stars Barton as a high-school guidance counselor who is forced to deal with a bullying situation that quickly turns into a murder investigation when a student is run-over by a car allegedly driven by a group of mean cool kids. Eli, the victim’s brother (J. Michael Trautmann), takes his dying...

Want to know what some of Jamie Kennedy’s favorite horror films are? What about his experience as a producer on the set of A Resurrection? We talk Scream, the cast of A Resurrection, and more in this exclusive interview.
How did you get involved with this project? Why this film?
Jamie Kennedy: Well, I was in the Scream movies, and I wanted to cultivate all of my horror fans. One of the producers approached me about this movie and I read Matt Orlando’s script. I found out that he wanted to direct it too, so that got me super excited, and that’s how I got involved.
Do you enjoy working in the horror genre?
Jamie Kennedy: Most definitely. Horror fans are the best and they are the most loyal. When they really love something, they can give it legs, and when they hate something you feel that.

Matt Orlando gave us the run down on his first time in the director’s chair and the casting process. Jamie Kennedy shed some light on why A Resurrection doesn’t look like a first film and offered his critique on Scream 4. Kennedy also gave us an update on another film Jamie Kennedy Entertainment is producing, Kantemir, which stars Robert Englund.
A Resurrection stars Mischa Barton, Devon Sawa, J. Michael Trautman and the late Michael Clarke Duncan. It’s the story of a down to earth school psychologist who tries to help a mentally ill student that actually believes his brother is coming back from the grave for revenge on the students that killed him.

As he slowly feeds Jessie clues into his brother’s mysterious death, she has the sheriff’s deputy (Devon Sawa) verify the less than believable and vague information. It’s time to shed a light on A Resurrection, a suspense horror thriller from first-time writer/director Matt Orlando, coming to theaters and VOD on March 22nd. The film, from Jamie Kennedy Entertainment, stars Mischa Barton (The O.C.), Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Slackers, Idle Hands), Jonathan Michael Trautman, and (pour a sip…) Michael Clarke Duncan in his last film.
The synopsis is simple: “A down to earth school psychologist tries to help a mentally ill student who actually believes his brother is coming back from the grave for revenge on the students who killed him.”
The film introduces a new player in the horror genre, has a good cast playing against type, and plays with audience expectations from the get go. A review and an interview with the director are forthcoming, but, in the meantime, check out the trailer for A Resurrection.

Jessie (Mischa Barton), a school psychologist tries to help Eli (Jonathan Michael Trautmann) who believes his dead brother is coming back from the grave to avenge his death. Naturally, bedlam ensues.
Devon Sawa has continued to work in genre fare, somewhat regularly, since his breakout roles in Idle Hands and Final Destination. He was a familiar and welcome face in A Resurrection. Sawa turned in a good performance, as Travis. And Mischa Barton successfully broke the mold of the roles we’ve seen her play time and again. The late Michael Clark Duncan was excellent as the high school principal. The entire cast actually turned in above average and authentic performances. I was surprised that first time director Matt Orlando was able to round up such great talent for his directorial debut. The cast helped turn what could have been a run of the mill, low budget horror film in to something more than that.

Hey, who doesn’t want a brother that refuses to stay dead? Teenage weirdo Eli in Matt Orlando’s “A Resurrection” has one of those — and he’s coming back for a little payback. This apparently involves trapping a bunch of kids in the school and taking them out. Unless, of course, Mischa Barton (of “The Oc” fame) and her boyfriend Devon Sawa (of “Nikita”) can stop him. Yeah, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say No. Check out a trailer and some images from the movie below. “A Resurrection” is also notable for being one of the last films co-starring the late Michael Clarke Duncan, by the by. It seems like former cast members of The Oc are having a bit of a renaissance lately. Ben McKenzie’s on Southland, Chris Carmack is heading to Nashville, and Mischa Barton is in the new film A Resurrection. Adam Brody attributes the attention to 2013 marking 10 years since we got to know Seth Cohen and his crew. We caught up with Brody at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, where he is starring in Some Girl(s) from writer Neil Labute (In the Company of Men). The drama has all the classic elements of a Labute film — the intimacy of a play,...

The days of infinity pools, the Harbor School, and witty banter in the Cohen’s kitchen are long gone, but that doesn’t stop us from following the careers of those who created some of our favorite dramatic moments (accompanied by Imogen Heap songs) on The Oc. And if we’re already being nostalgic, we might as well take things all the way back to season 1. You know, when Ryan Atwood still wore a wrist cuff, and Luke was the bad guy who won our hearts. Speaking of the blonde love triangle, we’ve got an update on what Luke,...

Last September, Academy Award–nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile) passed away from complications he suffered after having a heart attack, leaving Hollywood to mourn the loss of the Daredevil and Green Lantern actor. Duncan left one last performance, that of a principal of a high school in the upcoming horror-thriller A Resurrection (formerly The Sibling).
The movie follows a troubled student Eli (J. Michael Trautmann) who is having a difficult time dealing with the death of his brother (Patrick de Ledebur), who was murdered by his classmates. Mischa Barton plays Eli's school psychologist, who tries to help Eli despite his assertions that his brother would be returning from the grave to seek revenge. And of course, as the movie's first trailer reveals, it looks like someone is certainly trying to kill the guilty party.

We return with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes release details for A Resurrection, the first teaser trailer for Ten, a review of Smiley, and much more:
First Teaser Trailer for Ten: “Ten is a collectivist, post-exploitation psychological thriller devised as a possible explanation for the events of the 1972 Spektor Island Massacre. On a cold December afternoon, ten women arrive at a mansion on Spektor Island, famed for years of reported hauntings and strange activities. Will they live through the night?
The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock,...

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away at the age of 54, from complications suffered from a heart attack he had in July.
Known for his big build and deep voice, Duncan was in the prime of his life. His first movie role was in 1995's Friday, and he had several small parts playing bouncers and muscle men. It wasn't until 1997's Armageddon that he had a meatier role with more lines, playing one of the rough-and-tumble drilling crew drafted into blowing up an approaching asteroid.
In 1999 Duncan received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Green Mile. Based on the Stephen King novel and directed by Frank Darabont, Duncan played a mentally challenged prisoner named John Coffee who possessed a supernatural ability to heal. The role showed that Duncan could play characters that were more dimensional than their brusier exterior.
Duncan worked extensively throughout the 2000s.

From Gerri Miller and Mother Nature Network:
In keeping with the network's green initiatives, the set of Fox's new series "The Finder" has an eco-friendly set, with no plastic water bottles available. "I'm a big proponent of that," says creator Hart Hanson. The "Bones" spinoff starring Geoff Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan premieres Jan. 12, and will follow the "American Idol" results show starting the following week. "Not bad," acknowledges Duncan, thankful but aware they can't rely on riding coattails. "We have to make a name for ourselves."
Duncan, who's been putting his hulking form and booming voice to use on screen since his breakout role in "The Green Mile," was Hanson's first choice to play bar owner Leo Knox, the bodyguard/sidekick/best buddy to Stults' Walter Sherman. "I was looking for a TV show because I'd never done one before," says the actor, who bonded right away with his co-star.

Mischa Barton isn't afraid of the "Dark."
The former "O.C." star is set to get existentially romantic as she's signed on for the lead role in "I Will Follow You Into the Dark," according to Variety.
Barton will be playing a young woman (the "I" in the title, we're assuming) who's drawn out of a deep depression over the death of both her parents by an unexpected romance; when her new lover goes missing, she sets out to find him -- a journey that may take her beyond the "living" world. Leah Pipes ("Sorority Row"), Ryan Eggold ("90210") and Jaz Martin are also attached to star.
Hmm ... we hate to say it, but this kind of reminds us of Lindsay Lohan's brilliant train wreck of a movie, "I Know Who Killed Me," especially since it has another somewhat troubled young starlet in the lead role. Well, if the comparison ends up sticking,...
