Hulu snuck up on us last week and, without warning, dropped a gem of a gritty period drama that sucked us right into its story of ambition, violence, and desire. Created by Steven Knight, of Peaky Blinders notoriety, A Thousand Blows is a gritty, bloody boxing drama set in mid-1800’s London. But that’s not all. The boxing is just a distraction—albeit a delicious one—from what’s really going on here: a group of outsiders (lower class) first demanding more than society is willing to give them, then downright taking it when they're denied. This is one irresistible, binge-worthy series you should absolutely watch.
Inspired by the true-life stories of a group of characters battling for survival in the brutal East End of London in the 1880s, A Thousand Blows casts a spotlight on a very different gang than those Knight introduced us to in Peaky Blinders.

How do you bring a different take on a crime series? You can approach it by bringing in a new theme, or themes, or you can bring new production elements that the audience isn’t able to see very often. The new, limited crime series (four parts) that will start airing on Netflix on March 13, Adolescence, is set to bring in both of those approaches.
The not-so-usual theme puts the viewers in the position of a parent who has to cope with the fact that his son is accused of murder, where quite a number of difficult questions have to be answered.
The new production element has not been done that often - each of the four episodes is filmed in a single, continuous shot. The idea is to present the events as if they are unfolding in real time, with both the family and the police trying to resolve...

The new trailer and poster for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon have finally been unleashed (via SFFGazette.com), and all signs point to the movie doing right by the beloved DreamWorks Animation classic...by not being all that different from it.
Toothless looks amazing, as do the rest of the dragons that take centre stage here. All signs point to this being an epic fantasy movie in its own right, and regardless of how much the original How to Train Your Dragon achieved on screen in 2010, the visuals showcased in this sneak peek are on a completely different level.
In terms of the human characters, it appears as if we can expect their personality and relationships to be better fleshed out in this reimagining. Filmmaker Dean DeBlois confirmed that was a priority during a recent interview with The Wrap.

January was a pretty quiet month at the box office, even by January standards, which are not particularly high. But as is customary in the 2010s and beyond, Marvel is here to save the day ... hopefully. "Captain America: Brave New World" is hitting theaters next weekend, and it's a lock to deliver 2025's first blockbuster opening, which theaters could sorely use. The question is, can it be a big success like a pre-pandemic superhero film? Or is Marvel Studios rolling the dice with this one?
Director Julius Onah's take on "Captain America" is currently eyeing an opening weekend in the $81 to $98 million range. That's more or less in line with earlier tracking numbers, which had the film taking in around $90 million, per The Hollywood Reporter. On the surface, that may seem underwhelming since we're accustomed to Marvel Cinematic Universe entries clearing $100 million in their debuts with ease. But that...

“How to Train Your Dragon” will be released in theaters on June 13, 2025. It is a remake of the animated film series that began with a 2010 animated film, produced by DreamWorks Animation. It is based on the book series by Cressida Cowell and, hopefully, it will continue the original movie’s legacy.
“How to Train Your Dragon“ Storyline:
Everyone knows that Vikings and dragons have been enemies ever since they realized they live on the same planet, on the same isle. This is why the story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is so horrendous! He befriended a dragon. No Viking has even done that! It’s unheard of. It’s unacceptable. It’s impossible! Isn’t it?
Not impossible for Hiccup. Not only does he befriend the scary Night Fury dragon named Toothless, but he trains the creature! Who does that? Certainly not a Viking! It’s against all the rules of Viking society!

Fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) have been patiently waiting to see the bonus episode that was supposed to air sometime between the second and third seasons… but the wait for that is going to be longer than expected, because the decision has been made to hold off on the bonus episode and have Yellowjackets season 3 premiere on February 14th. With that date just a few weeks away, a full trailer has arrived online and you can watch it in the embed above. The images are accompanied by the sounds of the song “Bodies” (as in “let the bodies hit the floor”), a song I will always associate with the Jason X trailer.

Showtime’s hit series Yellowjackets is gearing up for a thrilling return with its third season, premiering with two episodes on Valentine’s Day, February 14. Paramount+ subscribers with the Showtime plan can stream the episodes early, with the traditional on-air premiere set for February 16 at 8 p.m.
The intense survival-horror drama follows the harrowing journey of a high school soccer team after their plane crashes in the wilderness. Stranded for 19 months, they face unthinkable challenges, including resorting to cannibalism. The show’s dual timelines—set in 1996 during the crash and in 2021 with the adult survivors—explore the psychological scars and dark secrets that continue to haunt them.
Season three’s official logline teases more turmoil: “As summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory—the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued.

“The only way to truly be safe is to be the only one left,” says Melanie Lynskey in Yellowjackets season three.
The warning comes in the new, official trailer (below) for the return of the survival-horror-coming of age drama that follows Lynskey and her fellow survivors of a plane crash that left them stranded in the remote wilderness for 19 months when they were teenagers, leading them to resort to cannibalism in order to survive.
The full trailer follows up on a previous, terrifying teaser that had revealed this season would be about both a haunting and a hunting, as the hit Showtime series continues to follow the survivors in dual timelines: present-day in 2021 with Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell; and in the 1996 crash timeline with their younger counterparts and additional survivors played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson,...

The temporary alliances in both the ’90s and the present appear to be crumbling, and several characters are brandishing knives in the Season 3 trailer for “Yellowjackets,” which Showtime released Wednesday.
As the two-minute clip opens, we hear an ominous voiceover from Shauna (Melanie Lynskey): “The only way to be safe is to be the only one left.” A Drowning Pool song, “Bodies,” plays in the background, featuring the lyrics “let the bodies hit the floor.”
The trailer also features Lynskey saying, “Someone wants us dead,” after receiving a package with the mysterious symbol on it from the wilderness. So who’s behind the package? The 40-something Van (Lauren Ambrose) darkly notes, “The only people who know about this are us. Or dead.”
“People are willing to do some messed-up stuff, just to see another day,” says Melissa (Jenna Burgess) in the plane crash timeline. Meanwhile, Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) and...

It's been a couple of months since our first look at the live-action How To Train Your Dragon movie was released and a new minute-long trailer has just dropped (via Toonado.com) revealing more never-before-seen footage.
Not only are there some obvious improvements to the visuals (Toothless somehow looks even better than he did the first time), but we also get to see the dragons Stormfly and Hookfang and more of Hiccup's first meeting with his future best pal.
Even if How To Train Your Dragon is simply a shot-for-shot remake of the DreamWorks Animation classic, everything we see here looks suitably epic and there's a good chance this ends up being one of 2025's biggest hits.
Describing the movie as "a game-changer," Gerard Butler recently teased, "I can say it has just been a joy to be a part of these movies, to tell those stories, and see them being received by the public.

Plot: A high-powered executive (Nicole Kidman) risks her family and career when she begins an affair with a much younger intern (Harris Dickinson).
Review: You’ve got to hand it to director Halina Reijn – she’s not afraid to be controversial. Her last movie, Bodies Bodies Bodies, was a huge surprise, with it being positioned as a slasher movie but ending up as something of a hilarious prank played on horror fans. This one, Babygirl, tackles issues of consent, grooming, and coercion head-on but dares to allow the audience to make up their own mind about what’s appropriate or not.
It offers Nicole Kidman a very controversial part, with her exec, Romy (Nicole Kidman), seemingly having it all. She runs a wildly profitable company with a loving husband (Antonio Banderas) and a supportive family. Yet, right from the first scene, where we see her in bed with her husband,...

We've known for a while that The Mandalorian & Grogu started life as The Mandalorian season 4. If the massive splash Moana 2 recently made at the box office is any indication of what's in store for the next Star Wars movie, Disney CEO Bob Iger made the right decision shifting to theaters from streaming.
While production on the project has wrapped, Deadline (via SFFGazette.com) has shared more casting news today as The Mandalorian's Jonny Coyne is set to reprise his role as a (currently unnamed) Imperial Warlord.
He showed up in hologram form as part of the Empire's sinister Shadow Council in the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 3. Moff Gideon reported to them on the Mandalorians' plan to retake Mandalore while the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn were also discussed.

Exclusive: Jonny Coyne will be reprising his role as Imperial Warlord in Jon Favreau’s feature take of The Mandalorian streaming series, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Imperial warlord is part of the hologram Shadow Council in episode 7, season 3 of The Mandalorian in which he and other Imperial ranking officials meet with Giancarlo Esposito’s villain Moff Gideon. Gideon informs them about the Mandalorians’ plans to take back their home planet of Mandalore, while also questioning the whereabouts of Admiral Thrawn, a very notable bad guy in the Star Wars canon. The Shadow Council operates secretly against the New Republic. In that episode, Imperial Warlord tells the group about the opportunities in “plundering the hyperspace lanes.” He’s accused by Captain Gilad Pellaeon that his “hit and run operations are gaining too much notice.”
Coyne joins a growing cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.
Favreau co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni.

Zombies have had a diverse array of representation across the history of movies and television. Their portrayal can sink into the terrifying such as in the movies World War Z or Train to Busan. Zombies have also been popularized recently by the long-running series The Walking Dead, which has also had multiple spinoff. Though deemed "the Infected," HBO's acclaimed series The Last of Us portrayed zombies in a pandemic-esque format, warning of a biohazardous disease that affects those bitten by infected humans.
In stark contrast to these portrayals, a number of films feature much more comedic takes on zombies. This includes the hyper-violent yet darkly comedic Edgar Wright movie Shaun of the Dead as well as movies like Zombieland or Warm Bodies. Even the vampire television comedy series What We Do in the Shadows has had its own humorous take on zombies, including them among the supernatural beings in the series.

It’s only a minute long but the first How to Train Your Dragon teaser trailer confirms so many elements about the live-action version. Toothless is basically Toothless from the animated films, Hiccup looks like fans expect him to, and even the finger placement as Hiccup touches Toothless for the first time matches the animated original. (A YouTube commenter pointed that out.)
Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Nico Parker (The Last of Us), Nick Frost (Truth Seekers), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), and Gabriel Howell (Bodies) star. The cast also includes Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).
Gerard Butler reprises his role as Chief Stoick the Vast from the animated films for the live-action adaptation.

From three-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative visionary behind DreamWorks Animation's acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, comes the long-awaited live-action reimagining of the film that launched that now-iconic franchise.
Following several leaks (both of the camera phone and HD variety), Universal Pictures has finally released the official teaser trailer and poster (via Toonado.com) for this gorgeous new take on the 2010 animated classic.
Neither shows off too much but both sneak peeks make it clear that Toothless will look almost exactly like he did in the previous How to Train Your Dragon movies. Every studio on the planet learned from Paramount's mistake with Sonic the Hedgehog, so this is the right move even if he doesn't look as "realistic" as House of the Dragon's far scarier beasts.

Wild projects do not frighten Maria Bakalova. The classically trained Bulgarian actress gained international fame and an Oscar nomination for her performance in 2020’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” followed it with a role in the daring “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and can be seen this year in Ali Abbasi’s newsworthy “The Apprentice.”
But her wildest project yet might be “Triumph,” a dark comedy about psychics and space aliens in Bulgaria that is her home country’s selection for the Best International Feature Film Oscar this year.
Bakalova joined the film’s directors Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov to discuss the “crazy, unbelievable, but absolutely true” new film with Steve Pond as part of TheWrap Screening Series.

Netflixs new horror film Its Whats Inside is a horror-comedy that mixes in several key horror tropes. For one, the film has the element of a game gone wrong. When an estranged friend in a friend group at a pre-wedding party brings a device that can allow participants to swap bodies, it starts as a fun game. However, once those bodies are actually switched and switched back again the game does not seem as fun anymore as chaos ensues.
In this plot structure, Its Whats Inside uses two key elements: a game gone wrong and the body-swap. Both elements are oft-used devices for horror and comedy, both of which are genre umbrellas that Its Whats Inside falls into. Body-swap movies span comedies such as Freaky Friday and Jumanji: The Next Level, as well as horror movies such as Freaky. This subgenre and the games gone wrong device are both elements...

You know a Joseph Kahn film when you see one. There’s an approach to style, narrative, and editing akin to pure adrenaline; it’s as though the filmmaker drank a bunch of coffee, ate a bunch of candy, and then immediately made a movie.
Ick, Kahn’s first feature since 2017’s Bodies, is pure sugar/caffeine rush: when it’s on a high, the film is dazzlingly fun and entertaining (sugar high!). But when the blood sugar crashes, Ick’s lows prove extremely uneven and a little frustrating.
In true Kahn form, Ick opens with energy to spare. An extended montage introduces Hank Wallace and his perfectly cliché high school life. He’s got it all: Hank is the quarterback of the football team, he’s primed for a College scholarship, and he’s dating head cheerleader Staci (Mena Suvari).
Everything goes awry when he blows out his knee during a game.

How to handle and regulate AI, how to continue making awards shows more appealing to a broader audience, and how key improving diversity is to ensuring relevance and revenue were just some of the questions discussed by the heads of the organizations behind the Oscars, BAFTA Awards and Grammys in Toronto on Sunday morning.
Bill Kramer, the CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. addressed the hot-button issues during a panel on “The Future of Awards Bodies,” moderated by TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee, at the industry conference strand of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
None of the panelists was shocked to be confronted with a question about the challenges that AI is creating for their organizations. “Well, that is probably the question of the year. How is AI going to affect music and art and culture?...

Boosted by Locarno-awarded debut Instinct, Dutch actor-director Halina Reijn fit nicely in the A24 canon with her satirical thriller Bodies Bodies Bodies. Yet the latter elicited rather lukewarm critical responses and it almost seemed Reijn might have been a one-hit European wonder fallen prey to the American dream. Then came Babygirl. As one of the first competition titles to grace the Lido, it promises a lot: not only does its title roll off the tongue with a delightful ring, it leaves one feeling a bit giddy (and a little naughty) for having uttered it aloud. Let’s not forget this is a film about a tech CEO / star mom / perfect wife (played by none other than ice queen Nicole Kidman) submitting to a much-younger intern (Harris Dickinson) to the point of literally eating from his hand.
It’s not too early in the festival to say Reijn wrote and directed...

Halina Reijn wants to bridge Hollywood’s “orgasm gap.”
“It’s huge! Huge!” the Dutch actress-turned-director exclaims, gesticulating wildly over our Zoom call to discuss her new film, Babygirl. “In Hollywood movies, we still see women having orgasms that are physically just not possible, at least for 99 percent of women!”
The orgasms in Babygirl, which premieres at the Venice Film Festival, it’s safe to say, will be more realistic. And there will be plenty of them. After her U.S. debut, the Gen Z slasher satire Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), Reijn returns to the more erotic tones of her first feature, the 2019 Dutch drama Instinct, which chronicled an illicit relationship between a prison therapist and an incarcerated sex offender.
Babygirl stars Nicole Kidman as a high-powered CEO married to the age-appropriate and undeniably sexy Jakob (Antonio Banderas) who embarks on a forbidden romance with a much younger intern, played by...

Sex Pistols played the first of three reunion shows at West London’s Bush Hall on Tuesday night (August 13th), featuring classic members Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, and Paul Cook performing with singer Frank Carter in place of Johnny Rotten. The revamped Pistols lineup also announced a fourth London show set for September 26th at the O2 Forum Kentish Town.
Two of the concerts at Bush Hall were announced back in early June as benefit shows to help keep the historic Shepherd’s Bush venue in business. A third show (August 15th) was added after the first two (August 13th and 14th) quickly sold out, but tickets are available via Viagogo.
As promised, the Pistols and Carter played the entire Never Mind the Bollocks album in full, albeit not in sequential order, ripping through classics like “Holidays in the Sun,” “Bodies,” and the set-closer “Anarchy in the U.K.”
