The Robin Hoods of the Poor

The directing and acting matters are the most important things here in a story that could have been made as a comedy. See for yourself, a bunch of young men, from the deep French countryside, decide to rob banks to give the stolen dol to the poor. The perfect comedy topic, except that's not a comedy at all, on the contrary. It could nearly be a gritty crime flick, but it remains too social to be seen as a pure crime drama. Not nearly nihilistic, not bloody enough for that, as was for instance NOCTURAMA, which was not a crime film either. Perfect TV stuff, but a good one. Very poor ending, maybe the worst I have ever seen. And one thing remains very unexplained: who are the dudes helping the escape out? Who are they? No element to explain.
