The Missing Key

I had the Pleasure of seeing this animation at its opening screening and am lost for words to describe it. The film is insanely brilliant. The story is simple but strong with some very interesting sub-themes developing throughout, and the animation and soundtrack are impeccably perfect. The villainous and the virtuous are at play in the story, and there is great viewer satisfaction as a reward for investing in the characters. The film is packed with detail so you must pay attention.

There are some images that will always remain in my head, including a huge spiraling birds-eye shot where an extreme wide angle lens effect is simulated. I have never seen this effect used so appropriately for the needs of a story as I have here.

What is notable, as it is with many Hollywood animations as well, is that the target audience includes both young and old. At the onset, the feel of the story and animation is of a sophisticated nature, such as is with the "Triplets of Belleville". Though the sophistication is but one aspect of the film, as number of children were in attendance at the screening and they could be heard chortling frequently.

This is something new, with 2D and 3D designed and combined in such a way as to create an original flavor, from which new and unheard of tastes may arise.
