In an interview with People magazine, Dennings, who starred in 2 Broke Girls and will appear in the new show Shifting Gears, talked about the harsh comments she received from casting directors when she started her career. When she was just 12 years old, she was told she “wasn’t pretty enough” and was “fat.” These words, passed on by her manager after the auditions, made a strong impact on her.

“Thinking about it was pretty crazy,” Dennings said. “I’m wondering how someone can say that about a young child.” “This is crazy.” The actress started her career in the early 2000s on the WB sitcom Raising Dad, a time she says was not as accepting as the industry is now.

After 25 years of acting, Kat Dennings has seen the entertainment industry become a much more inclusive place.

There was a time, not very long ago, when conservative comedy was generally dismissed. Conceptually, commentators would say, it’s a contradiction in terms, in that the purpose of comedy is to challenge systems of powers that conservatives, definitionally, seek to preserve. In practice, they only have one joke, and it’s not funny. Diane Delano, the busy character actor who portrayed Officer Barbara Semanski on CBS’ Northern Exposure and the mean science teacher Bobbi Glass on The WB’s Popular, has died. She was 67.

Delano died Friday of cancer in her home in Sherman Oaks, her friend Stepfanie Kramer announced.

“She was big and bold and brought her sharp wit and perfect comic timing to every role,” Kramer said. “Her earthy and raucous presence enabled her to always own the room. She was one of a kind.”

As Rhonda Vasek, Delano had a romantic liaison with Douglas Brackman Jr. (Alan Rachins) in 1987 on the second season of NBC’s L.A. Shifting Gears, the upcoming sitcom starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, has staged another reunion. A multi-cam family sitcom, Shifting Gears follows Matt (Allen), the stubborn and widowed owner of a car restoration shop who gets to reconnect with his daughter Riley (played by Dennings) and his grandchildren. The cast also includes American Pie's Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. Shifting Gears premieres Wednesday, January 8 at 8 Pm Et on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu.

Adam Ray is bringing his Dr. Phil parody to Netflix with a wild new special in which the comedian — dressed as the mustachioed talk show host — will come face to face with Dr. Phil himself.

Debuting on Netflix on Nov. 19, the untitled “Adam Ray’s Dr. Phil Comedy Special” will also see Ray-as-Phil interview special guests including Patton Oswalt, Jay Pharoah and “Gollum,” and get to know the audience through silly questions and games.

Ray’s “Dr. Phil Live!” had become one of the hottest tickets at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles before the comedian took it on the road across America. The show will soon expand beyond the United States.
