Actor Salman Khan celebrates his 49th birthday today. Ever since the flamboyant ‘bad boy’ of Hindi Cinema made his debut in 1988 with the film Biwi Ho To Aisi, he has always maintained a good balance between his work as a entertainer and his work as a humanitarian.
Khan is one of the biggest stars in the Hindi film industry. After his debut he impressed with his roles in films like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Saajan, Karan Arjun, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Phir Milenge, Tere Naam and Khamoshi. While he had a loverboy image in the nineties, he completely transformed into an action hero in recent years.

Saturday’s episode opened with hosts Manish and Ranvir sitting in a Sholay style motorbike singing ‘Ye Dosti, Hum Nahin Todenge’ from the film Sholay. The song ended and contestant Mouni proved to be a “distraction” for the boys and the audience were led to thinking they have had an accident. The next scene had two coffins and the judges and contestants were crying as if the hosts Manish and Ranvir are no more. But of course, they both turned up (much to the “disappointment of the judges/contestants!) and the show began as normal. Thankfully!

And the shy filmmaker is in a jubilant mood, "We were working on a concept that wasn't time-tested. We could've lost the audience. But they've accepted the film so warmly. It feels good." Bhoothnath Returns, currently showing to packed houses not only has a very talented child actor Parth Bhalerao at the helm, the child is acknowledged as the hero of the show by none other than his formidable co-star Amitabh Bachchan himself! Tiwari who earlier worked with a bevy of child actors in Chillar Party feels connecting with children without patronizing them is of utmost importance. "It would've been suicidal to bring Parth into the project unless I was sure about him. God forbid if after shooting I realized he wasn't right for the role. It would've been impossible to replace him.

For Go Goa Gone, it was imperative that good collections continued to come in right through the weekdays in order to bring in respectable numbers. In that context, the weekdays did stay on to be consistent though on a middle side. The film didn’t fall much but then since the weekend collections by themselves were not so massive, a reasonable drop wouldn’t have made the makers cheer aloud. As things stand today, the film had collected around 20 crores which is decent but lesser than what everyone expected from the zomcom affair.
There is still a silver lining though. The film is now the only non ‘Mukesh Bhatt produced or Vikram Bhatt directed’ horror film to have brought in such numbers and that too while boasting of an unconventional treatment. This could well be a start of things to come where filmmakers may start experimenting with different ways of treating horror.
