The Great Indian Family reassures the values of India we all missing in our societies these days thanks to the misconceptions spread by the media (one sided media). Vicky Kaushal perfectly portrays the dilemma and misconceptions among common Hindu majority people regarding 'The Others'
Kudos to Yash Rah Films and Director Vijay Krishna Acharya for giving this film in this crucial time. Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa give justice to their characters. Manushi Chillar has not much to do in this film except one or two songs.
Along with the social message film also comment on the family values. Expected some more emotional scenes but the movie is good family entertainer.

Nowadays audience taste changed, they liked to see unnecessary action , hate other religions, caste and society. They also liked to see those movies who described fake patriotism on big screen. Big budget, big publicity and audience mad too see.
But this movie said good things about each religion, each cultural, each peoples. This movie talk about we all are different with each other but humanity is same inside us.
I don't want to give any spoiler here, but after watch I feel that movie doesn't work and audience neglected because this is the not right time to release these kind of movie. Well Everyone taste is different, but I liked it .

The cast of this movie is perfect, all the main and side actors did a great job of playing their character. The storyline itself was interesting and different from most Bollywood movies. The comedic relief was entertaining, production set was well-done, and the songs weren't as bad as it was initially criticized.
However, the acting could have been better with a better script - the dialogues were pretty dramatic and not as well-connected to make the emotions and storyline flow properly. The theatrics and dramatization surrounding religion could've been toned down so that it didn't feel so preach-like but felt relative and grounded for most viewers.

The great indian family is a family film directed by vijay krishna acharya.
Vicky kaushal is superb in this loud role. It demanded frim him and he gave it his all. Manushi chillar is decent. Kumud mishra and manoj pahwa are brilliant. None of the other characters get that much space. The cast did good.
The romantic angle of vicky and manushi was forceful and lacked any emotional pull. In some sequences, the film tries to preach instead of showing. The screenplay does lose its steam sometimes. The music is good frankly. There are some catchy songs sung pretty well. Its a good film in my opinion.

Imagine a "PANDIT" who discovers that he is, in fact, a MUSLIM - it's a significant revelation, a really big deal. There's immense potential to turn this into dark humor, incorporating slapstick comedy and transforming it into a masala entertainer with a subtle infusion of social messages emphasizing that, fundamentally, nothing matters more than humanity. However, despite its novel intention and an impressive star cast, the movie falters in tightening the script, delivering adrenaline-thumping music, and executing emotional manipulation. The music, in fact, is so mediocre that you might find yourself skipping it during the movie; none of the tracks are even recognizable from TikToks. Viewers struggle to connect with the emotional scenes, so the only saving grace becomes the occasional giggles, the charisma of Vicky Kaushal, and the captivating presence of Manushi Chhillar (though not necessarily praising her acting skills, just admiring her beauty). If it weren't for the fact that it's available for streaming, I might not have bothered watching it at all.

I will not discuss the message. Depending on what your view of the world is, this can be seen as good or bad messaging. But, it was not original and the pattern is a little redundant. Dharam Sankat Mein had better actors and a tighter script despite a smaller budget.
This movie became too preachy and didn't stop preaching, through out. The topic as sensitive as this, if handled better could have made a difference in the messaging that the makers wanted to propagate.
Acting was not particularly good. Scenes were mostly lost. Humour did not land. Whatever moral lesson the makers wanted to give, was lost.
Few good moments from Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra, but beyond that, the movie did not hit the mark.

The movie is so connected to our roots
The movie is very good from the beginning itself. You don't have to wait for the climax to see the best part of the movie.
A 10/10 for this sweet family drama which shows a Hindu Brahmin culture throughout the movie.
This movie did not do much promotion but I insist everyone to watch this movie to see Bollywood can also male good Hindi cinema. The story is based on a new concept and everyonw will love it.
The songs are also good. Every actor has done great. Vicky Kaushal is Powerhouse of great acting.
Yashraj is known for making family drama movies. This movie successfully achieves the standard of Yashraj Films.

The Great Indian Family is a lackluster attempt at portraying the complexities of familial relationships in India. While the premise is not necessarily unique, a well-executed film can still bring freshness to familiar themes. Sadly, this movie fails on multiple fronts. Wasted my time watching this movie.
It relies heavily on stereotypes and doesn't offer any new insights into the dynamics of an Indian family. The characters feel one-dimensional, and their actions often lack depth or motivation.
This film drags in some parts, making it feel longer than it actually is, while rushing through potentially interesting character arcs in others. This uneven pacing disrupts the viewer's engagement with the story.
If you're looking for a meaningful exploration of family dynamics in Indian cinema, there are far better options available. Watching this film might leave you feeling like you've wasted your time, as it offers little in the way of entertainment or enlightenment.

The Great Indian Family shines with its realistic dialogue and the natural performances of a strong ensemble. While lacking in thrills and surprises, the film's charm and swagger create a captivating blend. Despite a letdown in the script, the relatable setting and believable characters add value to this Bollywood production. The director's creative choices are evident, but script contrivances hinder the potential enjoyment. Despite nuanced dialogues, the film struggles to pique interest, lacking in humor. The movie's strength lies in its trimmings-stellar acting, lively dialogues, and an authentic world. The ensemble cast, featuring Vicky Kaushal in a standout role, delivers authentic performances. Kaushal's portrayal of an unassuming young man taking a stand is commendable, and the supporting cast, particularly Kumud Mishra, adds depth. The film, at 112 minutes, maintains a balanced pace, but highs lack impact, and lows are marred by flaws and loopholes. A more profound story and a refined screenplay could have elevated the overall experience.

Worst movie. Worst story line. Unreal. Felt typical boaring movie throwing propoganda on religious emotions. Worst storyline. Pathetic acting. There is no sense of practicality. Do not waste your time on such movies. Instead watch inspiring movies like
Ghoomer . 12th Fail etc. In 12th Fail excellent acting and excellent story. Incredible acting by vikrant Messi. In Ghoomer movie also great acting by Abhishek Bachchan and new actress Saiyami Kher. Give credit to movies like 12th Fail which gives inspiration to kids. This Movie great Indian family pathetic story and I feel this worst movie of kathrina Kaif's husband. He has done few good movies like masaan.

Tone, Script & Story: The life of a traditional Bhajan singer witnesses a havoc when he comes to know he is Muslim by birth. The situation is more intense than it appears because the family in which he has grown is Brahmin family of pundits.
There comes a moment in movie when ace pundit returns and grabs the victim by heart. The victim touches his feet and this my friends was the most epic moment in the movie.
The other epic moment is when ace pundit gradually reveals the truth followed by victim's speech.
Music is average that goes well when we watch the movie. Direction and acting along with cinematic elements ace!
I today remember my first review was on somewhat similar story "Dharam Sankat Mein" and today I have crossed more than 500 reviews.
Final Verdict: The movie highlights the world would be dull with few colors. The multiple colors of Unity in Diversity make it beautiful. Cheers to this movie which celebrates brotherhood between Hindus and Muslims in current times!

The Great Indian Family (2023) :
Movie Review -
After three back-to-back action-driven films with YRF, Vijay Krishna Acharya finally comes to a simple zone with "The Great Indian Family," starring Vicky Kaushal, Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, and Kumud Mishra. The idea of family dramas was stuck to melodrama and tragedies in the 90s-a decade that gave us blockbusters like "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun" and "Hum Saath Saath Hain". We had a few modern family flicks in the 2000s, and then the 2010s decade hardly had any films to remember. Way back in the 60s and 70s, we saw the best of the family dramas, which pioneered major conflicts for melodramas and tragedies. This Victor's family drama is set in the modern era by following all the traditional stereotypes of melodrama and tragedies but setting itself away from stereotypes with a sensitive twist on religious hatred/unity. It does not shine while dealing with the storytelling methods, but it does look brave while dealing with the sensitivity of the subject. One might be aware of this conflict of religion between biological identity vs. Assumed identity from Paresh Rawal and Annu Kapoor's social comedy drama "Dharam Sankat Mein" (2015), which was a remake of the British flick "The Infidel" (2010). The boy is born to a Muslim mother but has grown up in a Hindu family-that's the conflict and that's the twist, but here we have an edge of Pujari's reference. See, the idea is good, sensitive, and challenging, but Acharya clearly fails to understand the potential and real value of the subject.
Bhajan Kumar (Vicky Kaushal) is a famous Jagarata singer in the town who belongs to Tripathi Pujari's family. He hates his family and that "democratic" government at the House for several reasons since childhood. From going bald reluctantly to becoming a Jagrata singer by his choice, Bhajan finishes his backstory sooner than expected. He meets a Sikh girl, Jasmeet (Manushi Chhillar), under bad circumstances, and while trying to make it up with her, he falls in love with her. Bhajan's close friend is also in love with the same girl, and so they have a fight. One day, Bhajan Kumar receives a letter saying that he is a Mohammedan. Now this is a big stigma for his family since they are the top pujaris in the town. After a healthy and sentimental argument with his family members in the absence of his father, Bhajan decides to leave the house to keep them happy. The journey of finding his own religion and learning new methods of life begins for Bhajan Kumar, and that makes him and his family the talk of the town. Will he find what he's looking for? Will he understand what family and relationships are?
TGIF has a fantastic basic idea, but the tower above is petty. Right from the first scene, you hear loud background scores and melodramatic music while introducing every character and showing every important scene. It's not the 80s or 90s, but why do we have to remind almost every filmmaker of this in 2023? A few humorous dialogues build a light atmosphere around them, even though some of them are spoofy. For instance, Ranbir Kapoor's name, Bhajan feeling like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh's voice, and especially that one scene when Bhajan, aka Vicky, says, "Surgical strike," referring to his biggest blockbuster, "Uri", and then starts a scooty in Dhoom mode with a background score of "Ek Tha Tiger". Spy-universe should be too small in front of this multiverse of YRF, I guess. The first half sets the twists nicely, despite weak storytelling. The second half is more dramatic and sensitive but is handled poorly. It's not a miss; it's a mess! The former term would have been okay looking at contemporary films, but the latter one isn't forgivable.
Vicky Kaushal plays a wannabe quintessential hero in his YRF debut. Don't know; some kind of forced heroism is there that kept me away from the character. He looks more cute and handsome with that clean-shaved face, though. But performance-wise, it's a strictly decent show. Nobody had expected this, including me, but the real hero of the film is Kumud Mishra. He has all the heroine scenes that elevate the character graph and mass appeal amongst the audience. Kumud is the head of the family, and he is the captain leading from the front. Manushi Chhillar looks beautiful, but what's new about that? She has been looking the same since her days at Miss Universe and even before that. Where is the strong performance and the heroine material, I ask? Manoj Pahwa is too experienced to be judged by any critic, as he must be aware of almost every kind of character by now. He is overshadowed by Kumud Mishra here, but I don't think it's a bad thing at all. He does what is expected to be done, and that's enough. Yashpal Sharma is delightful as the antagonist, while Alka Amin, Sadiya Siddiqui, Shrishti Dixit, Vedant Sinha, Bhuvan Arora, Aasif Khan, and others are okay in the supporting roles.
The Great Indian Family should have had better music, as I believe family dramas have always been loaded with good music. "Kanhaiya Twitter Pe Aaja" is quite a modern song and somewhat unique too, but other numbers are disappointing. The choreography in the Kanhaiya song is impressive. TGIF is mostly set in the town, and the production design and cinematography have been good, while the outdoor shots of bridges, rivers, and temples are even more eye-catching. The editing makes sure that you don't feel bored in those two hours; it doesn't matter if it's not a sensible film to watch. Vijay Krishna Acharya is fond of twists and turns, so he feeds his favourite dish to us again without thinking of the genre. Family dramas are more about emotions and simple understanding than sensational stuff, but he doesn't seem to agree with it. It's his baby, after all. He could have brought it up to become an intellectual child; rather, he preferred to make him a mainstream entertainer with subconsciously blind sentiments. TGIF could have ended up as an average flick if Victor could have found a more logical last quarter. Those last 30 minutes destroyed all chances of a decent watch with illogical actions and the unsympathetic behaviour of characters. The differentiation between Hindu and Muslim people needed a better commentary than this. You can't try to tackle such a sensitive issue with childish humour and illogical segments. The same subject could have easily had a better screenplay and better direction, and then, I think, we would have had a better film. As a whole, it's a great subject with an ungreat vision.

Totally unrealistic movie. Seems like the director thought of making something on the lines of PK, omg etc. But somehow deviated and added the spice of hum saath saath hein. Now the movie looks totally unrealistic and full over acting by Vicky kaushal. Not able to understand that people of which area of India speak Hindi like this. The accent and dialect seemed stupid. Seems like they mixed language of UP and Bihar. I don't understand that how a talented actor like Vicky kaushal can act so poor, or maybe he was bound to act like that due to the script. Only person who acted well was Vicky kaushal 's father in the movie.

In the whole movie I was trying to find where is the family fun which generally family types movies has
The content was good with a good twist where they had a road for humour but they made it boring..generally family movies have humour emotions, bondings, fights ,songs but here everything was missing..the movie was wondering headless with little love story some friends hangouts and caste creeds that's all
Vicky failed to play a family boy in main lead with miss chillar who was good for nothing..no good and strong supporting casts were seen
With YRF and Vijay we expect a lot and regret to give such reviews hope they take it spontaneously and come out with real good quality products.

The Great Indian Family is a captivating and heartwarming film that beautifully portrays the true essence of Indian values, particularly the emphasis on truth, integrity and religious coexistence. The story unfolds with a powerful message of self-discovery and acceptance, reminding us that love and understanding can transcend any perceived religious differences. The film's clean and righteous ending leaves a lasting impression, emphasizing the importance of upholding Gandhiji's noble teachings. The actors deliver exceptional performances, especially in portraying the inner transformation, showcasing the very difficult change that happens within the heart.
While the film's ending is subtle, predictable and understated, i would have preferred a more emotionally resonant conclusion. A more emotionally charged ending could have further amplified the film's message.
Overall, The Great Indian Family is a must-watch for anyone seeking inspiration and a reaffirmation of the power of truth and human connection.

Ved Vyas Tripathi aka Bhajan Kumar aka Billu is the son of Pandit Siyaram Tripathi. Their family gets all the contracts to major events in the locality which has irked their rival Pandit Jagannath Mishra. One such big contract is for a wedding for which Jagannath Mishra too is eyeing for. When Siyaram Tripathi is away on his annual pilgrimage, Billu gets a shocker of a letter revealing his lineage. This gets passed on as a rumor and eventually used as a weapon against Billu and family. How Billu fights back to save his family's honour and eventually truly learn the meaning of family, forms rest of the story.
It is still a well intentioned script which the makers thought would be apt for the current season as it celebrates secularism. Sadly the screenplay is as pedestrian as it can get, filled with clichéd scenes one after another. This leaves the actors to do all the heavy lifting. Though the emotions behind the scenes were clear, the scenes itself were silly at times. I expected proper drama within the family but the moments were so sugar-coated, the ones post interval failed to leave the impact like the pre-climax scenes. Vicky Kaushal definitely performed well and he deserved a better film.

In an era filled with predictable narratives, "The Great Indian Family," released on 22 September 2023, navigates the precarious terrains of religious identity through the lens of family drama. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and backed by Yash Raj Films, the movie stars Vicky Kaushal in a role that challenges the conventions of faith and identity.
Though the twist in the storyline-Vicky Kaushal's character discovering he's Muslim by birth while being a devout Hindu-was revealed in the trailer, making the film somewhat predictable, it's the execution that truly counts. Vicky Kaushal delivers a noteworthy performance, flanked by the seasoned talents of Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Yashpal Sharma, who bring depth to the story. While Manushi Chhillar and the rest of the cast appear only for limited durations, their presence adds value to the overall narrative.
The film's music, composed by Pritam, serves its purpose but lacks the stickiness to remain in your memory. The background score by Kingshuk Chakravarty, although impactful, tends to overpower the scenes at times. Some dialogues, while contributing to the film's secular message, could have been better crafted or perhaps omitted for a smoother narrative flow. Both the direction and editing, while competent, leave room for improvement.
In conclusion, "The Great Indian Family" succeeds in being more than just a family drama; it's a societal reflection holding up a mirror to our own prejudices and beliefs. Despite a few shortcomings, the film delivers a robust secular message that rings true in today's times. A worthwhile watch, earning a solid 8 to 10.
Its a good movie for a Friday night, kinda exceeded my expectations,
I always think a good movie as something in which i don't decode the message , it just appeals to you in a way where intellect is not involved, that somehow I felt is the definition of art... which usually many Indian movies get wrong,
In this movie you do get the message outright as to what the movie aims, but somehow a sense of nostalgia prevails which I somehow found catching up to and is feel good movie handling such a sensitive topic.
All performances are fabulous, Good work by writer ,director handled the usual tropes quite well , Give it a chance you wont regret it.
I didn't get as to why no promotions were made and didn't hear until the theatrical release , hope external factors didn't have any hand in it..!!

This movie reminds me of the good days of Bollywood that I grew up watching. When hate wasn't preached through movies. Instead the movies were a combination of fun, entertainment and love spreading messages. Sadly the today's filmmakers have fallen down to a hatred selling formula to make their movies hit.
Understandably, the so called critics gave it a lower rating as they have to save their faces considering the current environment. The film couldn't do well in theaters considering the current environment. But the audience of the internet has expressed their likeness for the movie clearly through IMDB ratings and reviews.

Movie is full Paisa vasoooool and family drama based with a great cast. Well acted by lead actor Vicky kaushal. In the era of sequel and other subject this movie set aside the concept
It touches your heart and connects well with family. If you are willing to spend time with family and need a break from daily routine this is a good option. I thought the movie would be based on normal family drama but It was totally different. The way the director proposed the main concept was outstanding. I think Bollywood needs this type of concept instead of making a mellow drama romantic story. Talking about acting, Vicky Kaushal was natural as always and all other character was well chosen. I highly recommend you all give this movie at least one shot. The film's music, composed by Pritam, serves its purpose but lacks the stickiness to remain in your memory. Vicky perfect shoting the role. Chopra many year before make such picture of hindu muslim but gotten banned same story but adding comedy. Good picture watching not bad idea.
