Back when Peter and Bobby Farrelly were still making movies as a team, Jack Black starred for them in one of their big comedy hits, Shallow Hal. He's now set to reunite with the sibling duo for new Christmas film Dear Santa.
The Farrellys are also back together for this one — though Bobby is actually directing, while Peter produces and co-writing the script with his brother and Ricky Blitt.
Dear Santa, which sprung from an original idea from Dan Ewen, focuses on a young boy, who in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and sends it to Satan instead.
This is one that has been on the Farrellys' radar for more than a decade now, originally set up at 20th Century Fox as Dear Satan, but now squatting at Paramount.
The cast also includes Robert Timothy Smith, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, Pj Byrne, Jaden Carson Baker,...

Jack Black is reuniting with Bobby and Peter Farrelly for Dear Santa, a Christmas comedy with a twist of satanic panic! Black teamed with the Farrelly Brothers for 2001’s cringe comedy Shallow Hal, starring Black as Hal, a man who falls in love with a 300-pound woman because of her inner beauty. The crude humor film is a product of its time, featuring Gweneth Paltrow and Jason Alexander. Dear Santa is entirely different and sounds like something worth raising your horns for.
According to Deadline, Dear Santa centers on a young boy who, in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and sends them to Satan instead. Black recently teased the project on social media by posting pictures of himself enjoying an elaborate Christmas display. In the photos, Black poses in the back of a brightly-lit penguin and reindeer standee. The mysterious images sent Black’s loyal fanbase into a frenzy,...

It’s likely not a project we’ll be covering much here on Bloody Disgusting, but Deadline reports today that Jack Black is reteaming with the Farrelly Brothers for a Christmas comedy titled Dear Santa, and the plot synopsis notably hints at some sinister horror elements.
Coming soon from Paramount, “The movie centers on a young boy, who in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and sends it to Satan instead.”

Deadline notes in their report this afternoon, “The current working draft is by the Farrelly Brothers and Ricky Blitt, with the original idea from Dan Ewen.”

The Oscars Best Documentary Feature race, which set a new record for entries in December when it passed the previous record of 170, has now left all previous years in the dust with 240 eligible films.
An additional 25 documentary features were placed in the members-only online screening room devoted to the category on Saturday, in what the Academy told voters would be “the final batch” of this year’s entries. It was the last of seven groups of documentaries that qualified and were placed into the screening room: 25 in July, 12 in August, 16 in September, 33 in October, 36 in November, a huge group of 93 in December and now 25 in January.

Last month the documentary feature Dear Santa proved to be the perfect film to coincide with the upcoming holiday. And though this week’s doc is only a couple of days away from its holiday, it couldn’t be more timely and relevant to today’s headlines. This coming Monday our nation once again celebrates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.. Of course, he wasn’t as revered then, during his own lifetime, as he is now. Some groups openly despised him. At the top of that list, white supremacists like the Ku Klux Klan may have been the most vocal (and violent). But Dr. King had a more powerful enemy, very close to the President, none other than “G-man number one” J. Edgar Hoover, who put considerable effort into spying on and discrediting him. How did Hoover’s obsession over King begin? And just how far did it go?...

The Academy has added 93 more films to the members-only screening room devoted to entries in the Best Documentary Feature category, bringing the total number of eligible contenders to a record-shattering 215.
The previous record for entries was 170 in 2017. And this year’s crop of nonfiction films is expected to pass that number by an even bigger margin — at least 50 — once a final, smaller group of films is added to the screening room in January.
New eligibility rules that were passed in the wake of the Covid-19 theater closings made it easier for documentaries to qualify this year by allowing them to do so by playing at film festivals, even virtual ones, and by easing requirements for theatrical runs. In an email to members detailing the new additions, the Academy said, “The Documentary Branch Executive Committee felt it was important to be inclusive and supportive of documentary filmmakers in this unprecedented and challenging year.

As we enter the throes of awards season more and more films are starting to make their qualifying runs in what is expected to be a very different kind of season. For starters, Searchlight Pictures is set to release Chloe Zhao’s buzzy pic of existential wanderlust Nomadland starring Frances McDormand for its virtual qualifying run starting today before expanding in 2021.
The film, which is set to run virtually at the Film Lincoln Center through December 11, follows Fern in the midst of the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada. We take a journey alongside Fern as she packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. Well, it looks like you’ve exercised your culinary skills and finally finished off the last of the leftovers from last week’s big holiday meal. It must be time to move on to the next big holiday looming in the not-so-distant future. After the decorations are all in place, the gift list can be tackled. Since we’re being told that it still won’t be safe enough to gather in big groups, that list may be a tad shorter this year. Perhaps instead of wrapping up ‘merch’ that would be tossed in the back of the closet…or re-gifted…or returned to the store, you may want to consider helping those in need. But where should you start? A terrific new documentary should provide you with loads of inspiration, all sparked by hundreds, no thousands, of letters and cards scrawled in pencil and crayon whose content begins with Dear Santa.

Chicago – Now that the socially distanced Thanksgiving is past us, it’s time to turn to Christmas and the films that are associated with that holiday. Documentary director Dana Nachman has a series of emotional and true stories in her latest film “Dear Santa,” an overview of a gift-giving charity that starts with a child’s letter.
“Dear Santa” highlights the 100-year-old Operation Santa program of the United States Postal Service (Usps). Each year, of course, hundreds of thousand of kid’s letters to Santa Claus end up at the Post Office. Through Operation Santa, the Usps makes it possible for the public to safely adopt these letters and make a child’s holiday dreams come true. The documentary travels around the country, and focuses on select Operation Santa stories and people … some in massive programs like New York City and others in small towns where the post office is the heart of the community.

Director Clay Kaytis’ “The Christmas Chronicles” isn’t going to make audiences believe in the power of Christmas, let alone stoke the spirit of the holiday season, but boy does it exhaust itself trying. The family-friendly adventure, about two kids whose Christmas Eve mission to capture Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) leads to helping him save the holiday, plays like a love letter to producer Chris Columbus’ previous works without ever distinguishing itself. With its saccharine score, saturated cinematography, and trite platitudes, the film is formulaic and forgettable except for Russell’s performance as the lovable legend.

One little boy has found the quickest way onto Santa’s naughty list – directly insult the big man in red himself.
The Virginian boy decided he was not going to follow the status quo when writing his annual letter to Santa, with the 6-year-old not mincing words to jolly Saint Nick.
The young Santa skeptic’s mother, Sarah McCammon, shared her son’s hilariously brutal note on Twitter Sunday. By Monday, it went viral with hundreds of comments, thousands of likes and retweets.
“Dear Santa, I’m only doing this for the class,” the young boy said in his introduction.

It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas for Lee Brice.
The 38-year-old singer-songwriter recorded a lovely rendition of the classic carol “O Holy Night,” and People has your first chance to listen to the holiday tune and see the accompanying video.
The country star sings in front of frosted fir trees, with a bright spotlight shining behind him. The video was filmed in a Nashville studio back in September.
Brice’s version of the song appears on a new compilation album called Winter Wonderland, which also features other chart-toppers of the country music scene. Tim McGraw lends his voice to “Dear Santa,...

The holidays are here, and in between the cookies and presents we’re all going to want one thing: some good (and not so good) TV.
With Christmas and Hanukkah just a few sleeps away, we’ve gathered all the TV show and movie marathons over the weekend so you can enjoy your favorite shows and movies during downtime.
As is the annual tradition, A Christmas Story will play on repeatedly Dec. 24–25 so you’ll never miss a beat of little Ralphie’s quest for a Red Ryder B.B. gun. For those who prefer to watch their usual TV shows,...

It’s the holiday season where most are thinking egg nog, fluffy snow, decorating cookies and Santa Claus. But if director Michael Dougherty has anything to say about it with his latest film Krampus, this festive time of year will include a darker Christmas legend whose shadow over pop culture is growing.
Ancient folklore warns of Krampus, a myth that has been traced back centuries throughout European cultures. Santa rewards the nice; Krampus punishes the naughty. Santa brings laughter and joy; Krampus unleashes darkness and mayhem. Santa gives presents; Krampus takes souls.
Dougherty says, “The same way that Americans send out Christmas cards, Europeans have this rich tradition of sending out Krampus cards. I was shown these beautiful illustrations of this creature called Krampus, who stole children, and images of people cowering in fear. Still, they had such a fun, mischievous quality, similar to our Halloween. I found that appealing...

Make sure this album is on your list this holiday season. The Krampus – The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will release digitally on December 4, 2015, on Back Lot Music.
The album features the original music created by composer Douglas Pipes (Monster House, Trick ‘R Treat), pre-orders available now on iTunes. A CD is forthcoming, while Waxwork Records will distribute the soundtrack on vinyl, pre-orders available starting December 4th at www.waxworkrecords.com. The digital album also features a bonus track of the popular tune “Carol of the Bells,” rewritten and appropriately retitled “Krampus Karol of the Bells.”
When creating the score, Pipes wanted to remain true to the spirit of Christmas. “We used melodies of Christmas carols, sometimes just fragments, sometimes altered, as well as traditional Christmas instruments throughout,” said Pipes. He knew it was going into dark fantasy-horror territory, but to make the score unique Pipes created a theme for Krampus...

Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is for this fellow former Bachelor contestant to show up in Paradise. Ok, not really, but that was basically the gist of the letters written by the Bachelor in Paradise stars to producers when they agreed to join the cast of the franchise's hit spinoff that gives them a second chance at love. And when E! News hit the gorgeous set of Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico, we asked fan-favorites such as Ashley Iaconetti, Ashley Salter, Tenley Molzahn, Mikey Tenerelli and more to reveal who they were hoping to date in Paradise and their answers are definitely...surprising! It sounds like Clare Crawley, the only cast member to return from the first season, was a popular pick...

Let me begin this recap with a bold prediction: Season 7 of The Voice, despite being the weakest in the history of NBC’s singing competition, will be the first to launch a chart-topping, stadium-filling superstar.
I will stop short, however, of predicting which contestant gets the job done for the only reality franchise where the slightest hint of negativity is greeted by producers in Hazmat suits, sealed in plastic biohazard bins and shipped to landfills in deepest New Jersey. (I live in the Garden State, so that joke is officially not offensive.)
I mean, let’s face it: At noon today,...

The North Pole is known for wonder and whimsy, not it's Wi-Fi signal. Perhaps that's why Santa still depends on snail mail to uncover the wishes of kids around the world. We're happy that Mr. Claus still has kids licking stamps, or else we would miss out on scrawly, heartwarming requests like these. Emails and Instagram are quick, but they'll never replace the personality that comes through when you put pen, paper and child together. 1. And The List Goes On …The daughter of Deadspin's Drew Magary may have the most ambitious Christmas list we've seen. From the sensible (a bead...

Handmade sterling silver “Devil Horns” necklace with black diamond fingertips. For the headbanger that has everything. $399.
The horrorfiling cool owner of Destroy the Brain has been kind enough to give me carte blanche when it comes to what gets featured for the Coffin Couture column. Which is great, since I’ve got lots of scary and metal things to share with you. But this week is sort of special since I’m sharing my 2013 Christmas Wish List with you. But not because I’m hoping for the handmade sterling silver Devil Horn necklace above to show up under my tree yes I am, but because I’m thinking many of you will be making last minute revisions to your lists because you had no idea there was such a thing as sterling silver devil horns that only Dio could love more than you.

Jason Priestley is all for Shannen Doherty's new adventure in reality TV.
We announced Thursday (July 21) that the tentatively titled "The Shannen Doherty Project" is coming in early 2012. After an initial reaction of "Oh my goodness," the former Brenda's "twin brother" Brandon from "Beverly Hills, 90210" tells Zap2it that he wishes her "the best. I always wish Shannen the best."
Priestley surely isn't lacking for his own projects these days. On the immediate horizon is a four-episode arc on the Syfy series "Haven" that starts Friday, Aug. 5. He also directed one of the tales, in which he plays a biologist whose unusual traits -- not out of place in eerie Haven, Maine -- are investigated by visiting sleuth Audrey Parker (Emily Rose).
"I like the show a lot," Priestley says of the Stephen King-inspired drama. "The reason I initially started watching it is that [executive producer] Shawn Piller is an old friend of mine.
