In a nod to the growing demand for elevated television content in the market, Chile’s Santiago International Film Festival is launching screenings of select series to the general public as part of its Sanfic Series sidebar.

As the first in Chile to launch such an event, Sanfic Series will be screening four television projects to the public at the Matucana 100 Cultural Center located in the city center of Santiago.

Three TV projects from Argentina and one from Colombia will play to the general public while Movistar’s Chilean musical series, “Prisioneros,” which had its European debut at the recent Iberseries Platino Industria in Madrid, will screen as part of the closing night awards ceremony of Sanfic Industria on Nov. 4.

With the exception of Argentina’s “This is Not Your Hotel,” the selection of series touch on the hot-button subjects of trans, cross-dressing or LGBTQ issues.

Vinayakan, who is completing 25 years in cinema, is going to write and direct his first film, titled Party, she wrote. The film will be produced by Rima and her director-husband Aashiq Abu under the banner Opm Cinemas. A picture of Aashiq and Vinayakan was also shared. The title shows Aashiq as presenting the film. Vinayakan made his first appearance in a Malayalam film in 1995. He played the role of a gypsy dancer, imitating the steps of Michael Jackson, in the Mohanlal starrer Manthrikan. Vinayakan was noted for his fire-eating dance performance in a song. He was reportedly a dancer before coming to cinema, and had a troupe called Black Mercury.

Sky has acquired “The Secret Garden” from Studiocanal and will release the film in U.K. and Ireland cinemas and Sky Cinema channels on Oct. 23.

Directed by three-time BAFTA winner Marc Munden (“National Treasure”) and produced by David Heyman (“Harry Potter” franchise) and Rosie Alison (“Paddington”), “The Secret Garden” is an adaptation of the classic children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It stars Dixie Egerickx (“Summerland”), Oscar and BAFTA winner Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech”) and BAFTA winner Julie Walters (“Mamma Mia”).

Set in 1940s England, “The Secret Garden” tells the story of a 10-year-old girl, sent to live with her uncle at a remote country estate deep in the Yorkshire moors, who begins to uncover many family secrets, particularly a wondrous garden with healing powers.

Variety reports that Michael B. Jordan will lead Danny Boyle’s new take on Methuselah.
