Tony DeRosa-Grund is still battling it out with Warner Bros over his role and rights for The Conjuring franchise, but now a new legal front has opened against the producer – a lawsuit with implications that could potentially spook the studio and New Line’s plans to enlarge the horror franchise of the hit 2013 paranormal pic. In the complaint, a novice producer is alleging that not only does the often litigious DeRosa-Grund owe him more than $250,000 from a sprawling deal gone wrong, but that he in fact holds the rights to the about-to-be released Annabelle as well as October 2015‘s The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist.

Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week "Magic Mike" What's It About? Based on Channing Tatum's real-life experience as an exotic dancer, the movie delves into the colorful world of male strippers. See It Because: Well... there's no other movie like it this year. Director Steven Soderbergh films entertaining spectacle and the movie gives us one of Matthew McConaughey's best performances. (Also Available on Amazon Instant Video | Netflix) Moviefone's Blu-ray Pick of the Week "Fear and Desire" What's It About? Stanley Kubrick's rarely-seen first movie tells an allegorical tale of four soldiers trapped behind enemy lines in a fictitious war. See It Because: "Fear and Desire" was thought lost to time (supposedly Kubrick tried to single-handedly obtain every single copy of the film so that it was never seen). It's a fascinating piece of film history that's worth watching. New on DVD & Blu-ray "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" What's It About?...

This week offers a wide range of titles including Criterion's presentation of John Schlesinger's Sunday Bloody Sunday, a new anniversary edition of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and then Steven Soderbergh's latest film Magic Mike. On top of that I have several new releases added to the calendar including The Bourne Legacy, Butter, The Paperboy and Criterion's upcoming release of Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby. But before we get to the upcoming releases, let's check out this week's new releases. Magic Mike I wonder, can Magic Mike make my top ten for the year? I haven't taken a look at it a second time yet, but I hope to before the year is up. I was looking through my reviews for the year so far and I have given out 11 B+ grades (which seems like a lot) already and Magic Mike was one of them and one of...

The inspirational sports drama has become a dependable staple of film, and while some like Aaron Sorkin’s Moneyball or Sean Astin's Rudy involve an individual’s triumph more than an entire team’s, more often than not the two are spliced together with the coach overcoming some personal issues while raising a ragtag group of players from obscurity to excellence. Steve Rash’s Crooked Arrows plays into that formula without a single reservation, content to let the fact that it’s about a Native American lacrosse team be its only identifying quality to separate it from the rest. And really, that is all the separates it. The writing is cheesy, but within a tolerable range, and the decent acting from Brandon Routh and Gil Birmingham is enough to offset the rest of the cast, leaving its concept to be the only thing you might remember a few days later.

I was talking with a friend, who, on behalf of his brother, was asking for advice on getting into the industry. Specifically, his brother is the musician in the family while my friend is a more traditional businessman who sells product. My pal asked me, “How do you determine what to charge? I know that in my industry I have to do an analysis of what a product costs me to produce and how much profit margin I need to make to survive. If a music mix takes a certain number of hours and you can determine its cost to show the client, why can you not get people to pay for that?” This inevitably led to the train of thought that you charge what you are worth — a topic we have discussed here at SCOREcast many times in the past. But upon further discussion, I determined that in advising...

When Universal Studios asked the magic mirror who would be the fairest movie in all the land this weekend, it replied, “None other than your own, Snow White and the Huntsman.”
The dark adaptation of the classic fairy tale bumped Men in Black 3 off of the throne with a $56 million opening weekend. It was a slight surprise considering Snow White opened to just 3,773 theaters, a wide release certainly, but not as wide as Mib 3, which was still playing in nearly 500 more theaters than Snow White. Universal was able to receive some redemption after Battleship flopped and while it wasn’t the perfect film, we have to say that it was worth it to see Charlize Theron’s performance.
Editor’S Pick: Read Our Review of Snow White and The Huntsman

I may not know much about sports beyond which athletes date celebrities, but a good sports movie makes me white-knuckle the armrest right along with the rest of America as the home team inevitably finds themselves with one shot left at winning the big game.
And while Crooked Arrows (Brandon Routh's new movie about a Native American lacrosse team) does have the requisite countdown to zero as the shot sails towards the goal, there is so much more to this story than meets the eye. It's a tale of spirituality, culture and how the two are forever intertwined with this immensely popular sport. All of which led Brandon to join the team!
Insider.com: How do you describe Crooked Arrows?
Brandon Routh: I loved that it was about lacrosse, but the fact it had a rich, emotional journey made it even better. And then there's this payoff about what lacrosse means to the Native American...

Sports in films have been a cultural celebration, predating Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia also owing its linage to Thomas Edison’s early experiments in motion. Crooked Arrows uses lacrosse as half an entrance into something more interesting: a portrait of an upstate New York tribe. The film falters where other sports movies have: growing too sentimental and a tad cheesy for its own good. Ruthless like Goon, it is not – structurally it suffers from the same good intentions of contemporary Christian based filmmaking.

Once again, it was all about The Avengers at the box office, as three new releases failed to even approach the Marvel superhero blockbuster’s third-weekend gross of $55.1 million, according to studio estimates.
The movie dropped 47 percent — an admirable hold for a picture that’s putting up such huge numbers. Strategic Film Partners has acquired international sales rights to the feature film Crooked Arrows starring Brandon Routh (Superman Returns). Let’s face it, you can never go wrong with a “Bad News Bears” movie. You can replace the bears part with anything you want — ducks, birds, geese, whatever — as long as the basic storyline is the same — a bunch of misfits learn from a reluctant coach on their way to becoming a great (or at least, decent) team. Throw in a troubled, wayward kid in there, the token Tomboy girl, and you’ve got yourself a feel-good sports movie that caters to the family crowd. Now you can do what the “Bad News Bears” did and get them almost there, or you can go full-tilt for feel good status and have them actually win the Big Game. Either/or. That’s basically “Crooked Arrows”, which has “Superman Returns’” Brandon Routh playing a Native American far removed from his Native American-ness, who has to coach the tribe’s lacrosse team...

Crooked Arrows, the first ever mainstream lacrosse movie, hits theaters nationally on May 18th. The film centers on coach Joe Logan, who reluctantly leads a Native American high school team on their unlikely journey to the state lacrosse championship game against their prep school rivals. Along the way, Joe and the team rediscover their connection to the spiritual tradition of the ancient sport of lacrosse. Set in the diverse worlds of modern Native American culture and prep school lacrosse, Crooked Arrows offers moviegoers a new twist on a classic underdog sports story.

It looks like I'm going to have to re-learn how to spell Milo Ventimiglia. No, he's not dating a teenager again, but he is developing a dark comedy about the drone pilots that "commute" to the war from Nevada. This is an idea I've wanted to see done for a while, because is it still war to these pilots, fighting it from 10,000 miles away? How do you take out an insurgent village and then pick up the kids from soccer practice?
I'll be honest, I'm not sure I quite get this piece on the sexualization of Kurt/Chris Colfer that Seth sent in. He's hot, women want to bone him. I want to bone Brad Pitt, but it's not going to happen.
There are all sorts of creepy cat stories today, like how they defy physics, which was done by creating virtual cats, proving my theory that SkyNet is a feline plot.
