Comcast-owned Sky has taken the checkered flag and will exclusively show the feature documentary Hill about Formula 1 star Damon Hill in the U.K. and Ireland under a deal with U.K. film distribution, production and sales outfit Signature Entertainment.

Signature said that it was partnering with Sky for the movie from Independent Entertainment to premiere in the two territories as a Sky Exclusive later this year.

Produced by Simon Lazenby and Victoria Barrell of Sylver Entertainment (McEnroe, Schmeichel) and Cora Palfrey and Luc Roeg of Independent Entertainment (Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, My Policeman), the feature is directed by BAFTA-nominated Alex Holmes (Maiden, The Rig).

In 1996, Damon Hill claimed the Formula 1 World Championship, following in the footsteps of his father, Graham Hill. “This is a unique family story set against the backdrop of the fastest sport in the world,” says a synopsis of the film.

On Saturday, the Producers Guild of America gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles to hand out the 2023 PGA Awards.

While the ceremony honors the achievements of producers across media, meaning awards were given out to series like “The White Lotus” and “The Bear,” the documentary “Navalny,” and animated feature “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” its theatrical film award, which was won by “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” is the one all eyes were on.

The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures is often seen as a bellwether for the Best Picture Oscar, as 23 of the last 33 winners have gone on to win the Academy Award. “Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off” and “Sesame Street” have won the first Producers Guild Awards to be given out this year, the Producers Guild of America announced at its annual East Coast Nominees Celebration in New York.

The HBO documentary “Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off” won in the Outstanding Sports Program category, whose other nominees included “McEnroe” and “Legacy: The True Story of the L.A. Lakers.” The long-running series “Sesame Street” won in the Outstanding Children’s Program category.

The PGA will announce the winners in its Outstanding Short Form Program and Innovation categories on Thursday evening at its West Coast Nominees Celebration. The other categories will be given out on Saturday evening at the 2023 Producers Guild Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles.

John Patrick McEnroe learned tennis on the public and club courts during the 1970s tennis boom. He was a different kind of player, more a strategist – he was a math whiz – than an overpowering athlete. But his consistency, tenacity and yelling were his calling cards, and he attained the Number One world ranking in both singles and doubles competition, winning over 70 titles in both categories … the only male player to do so. Along the way, he did a lot of partying, married Tatum O’Neal and came to the end of his career with a perspective that still burns within him.

New Zealand rugby icon Jonah Lomu and former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will be the subjects of two new documentaries from U.K.-based sales agent and distributor Dogwoof and Sylver Entertainment.

The companies previously collaborated on “McEnroe,” a documentary about the tennis great John McEnroe, which was released in U.K. cinemas in July and premiered on Showtime on Sept. 2.

As development financiers and executive producers on both projects, Dogwoof will be presenting the projects to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival this week.

“Lomu” is centred on the late Jonah Lomu, one of the greatest rugby players of all time. Lomu was a Tongan/Kiwi warrior who could run 100 metres in under 11 seconds. He was the youngest All Black to put on the jersey and still holds the record for the most tries scored in World Cup history. The film about his life is being made...
