(2023) Princes of the Desert/ Zodi & Tehu, frères du désert
(In French with English subtitles)
ADVENTURE
Co-written and directed by Eric Barbier opens with poachers chasing after a herd of wild camels/ dromedaries injuring and killing the mother, that is reminiscent to Bambi. 12 year old Zodi (Yassir Drief) from a tribe of refugees while coming home from school stumble onto an unique looking black and white orphaned dromedary hidden behind some rocks who then takes over the reigns as it's mother. As soon as the dromedary becomes full grown is when those same poachers sought after Zodi for it's racng skills. And of course, it is also disobedient once it is suggested it belonged in the race track, particularly for the "The Golden Sword" races. Along the way, Zodi meets friends such as Kumail (Jesuthasan Antonythasan) and Julia (Alexandra Lamy) who is like a doctor and trainer as there is a particular dromedary called Al Misk synonymous for winning many of it's races.
Anyways, it is not bad, but it is like it has the ingredients of a feel good movie of the week from the Lifetime Channel as it reuses every cheezy cliche in the book from "The Black Stallion", "National Velvet" and "Duma" to name a few. I'd probably would have liked it had I not seen those other movies and more.
