Jordan McAfee, Jack's defense attorney is played by James Thomas. The book's character Jordan McAfee (and his son Thomas McAfee and his assistant Selena Damascus) appears in other Jodi Picoult novels --- The Pact, Nineteen Minutes, and Mad Honey.
Salem Falls (2011) debuted November 19, 2011 on Lifetime Television. Filming started August 10, 2011, according to Picoult. The film stars James Van Der Beek, Sarah Carter, and AJ Michalka. Some scenes from the film were shot in and around the town of Fergus in Centre Wellington, Ontario, Canada.
Things the novel included but not the film were use of hallucinogenic drugs by the teenagers, Gillian having psychiatric history showing her to be a compulsive liar, and an actual trial occurring in the book. The incident of touching of Gillian by Jack involved him catching her when she fell and accidentally touching her breast. Lastly, Addie's prior pregnancy was the result of a gang rape, never actually knowing who her child's father was.
