Writer/director Ryan Stacy based the Midsummer Nightmares party on his own birthday party. It also bore the same name and theme. He even wore the actual costume from his party in the film.
Kelci C. Magel was originally cast to play Holly Peterson. The week principle photography was to begin, the actress portraying Liz Landon left the production. Kelci immediately took over the role and died her hair black to make herself become more like Liz.
Stacy Freeders role was written specifically for her. When she signed onto the film, she was the first actor to have a sequel close in her contract. Sequel offers were eventually offered to Julie Sherwood and Scott Gillespie.
Julie Sherwood received the role of Audrey Small by auditioning over the phone with the director. She was recommended to the project by her friend & co-star Stacy Freeders.
The name of Rob Matthews III is actually an inside joke to the production. Due to a couple different casting issues with the part, Scott Gillespie is actually the third actor to assume the role.
