"If even a single person believes your lie, it becomes the truth and the real truth slowly disappears into the darkness." - Sara Kiritani
Master's Daughter is a Japanese mini-series which centers on a beautiful young woman named Sara Kiritani (Mizuki Kayashima) who is a new transfer student at the same high school as fraternal twins, Kazuma Yuda (Taiyu Fujiwara) and Ichika Yuda (Hana Toyoshima). Kiritani ultimately earns their trust as she assists them through the difficulties they face within their high school.
The siblings soon realize that strange occurrences have begun to surface around them due to Kiritani's presence and the search for the truth behind her identity ensues. Kayashima is riveting as the main character with a mysterious past, and Fujiwara compliments her portrayal with naivety and boyish charm that signifies the innocence of youth. Planting the audience in his shoes as we are unable to distinguish the truth from falsehood in this twisted psychological tale about the art of deception. The series manages to shed light on serious topics such as bullying, blackmail, pedophilia and defamation of character which can all lead to dire consequences. An underrated gem containing countless twists-and-turns that have the audience on the edge of their seat during the seven episodes of this show. Unable to predict where the narrative will lead due to the fabulous directing by Kô Kanai, who provides answers for all of the plotlines introduced and mends them together in a satisfying fashion for the conclusion. Master's Daughter holds a lasting impact on the viewer and this is the reasoning behind why it has become one of my favorite stories released in 2022.
