Underwhelming Start to the Final Season

First of all, it's really good to be back, I forgot how much I missed this show and the characters until I watched this.

But unfortunately, the first episode of the sixth season is just not as funny or entertaining as what I remember the show to be.

Surprisingly very few attempts at comedy and most of the attempts fell flat and just weren't funny. I only chuckled a couple of times but nothing actually laugh-out-loud funny happened here.

The whole episode takes place in the house which makes it a bit unremarkable, but it does make sense narratively since we're getting reintroduced to these characters and seeing what they've been doing.

But the episode overall is very forgettable and I don't think there are any scenes here that stand out for their humor, funny situation, or a memorable line at all.

On the other hand, I think the setup for the season's storyline was pretty decent and as always, the writers did a good job of coming up with how they're gonna integrate Jerry into the show and giving a pretty logical reason as to why we haven't seen him before.

So overall, this one just didn't do it for me, especially in the laughs department. It does however set up a pretty decent premise for the season but at the same time, this plotline feels repetitive because I think we had this in the first season. If the writing continues like this, it doesn't really bode well for the season, but I'm sure it's gonna pick up the pace and get funnier in the next episodes, because it would really suck if the last season didn't finish on a high note when the previous season and the whole show is one of the funniest and creative comedies I've seen.

    okay, hoping for better

Finally this show is back! And since this is the final season of course it's hard to temper my expectations that every episode is a winner.

First off, Michael Patrick O'Brien as Jerry is a good addition to the cast, a vampire that takes their long-forgotten mandate of conquest seriously. That bodes well for some funny conflict in future episodes.

The guy-out-of-his-time gag is well worn but they manage to come up with some fun zingers anyway, and avoided the trap of being too topical. Al Haig huh? That explains a lot.

So it's a decent start to the new season anyway, with some room for improvement.

    • Trivia
Natasia Demetriou was pregnant while filming this final season of the show. Traditional tricks are used throughout the season to hide the pregnancy; baggy or frilly clothes, sitting behind tables, holding a pillow or other items, generally filming from above the waist.
